About The Role:

 

As a DVM and Designated Registrant for the Practice, the Acting Designated Registrant demonstrates an exemplary standard of medicine with patients while concurrently providing medical leadership to the Practice. This DVM will be largely responsible for clinical work with approximately 5-10% of the time focused on Designated Registrant responsibilities. As a senior member of the practice management team, the Acting Designated Registrant combines clinical expertise, a dedication to veterinary code of ethics and regulatory standards, solution-driven expertise, emotional intelligence and utilizes a servant leadership mindset to promote excellence in veterinary medicine.

 

Acting Designated Registrant Responsibilities:

 
  • Work in partnership with the National Medical Director, create and sustain an environment conducive to high quality and competent veterinary care. Involves ensuring practice guidelines are adhered to, high standards of care are consistently delivered and oversight of controlled drug logging and storage.
  • Ensure Practice equipment and facilities are in working order, are properly maintained and issues or equipment requests are escalated to the Regional Manager.
  • Assist to interview and train DVMs and RVTs (as applicable) at the Practice
  • Assist in resolving problems, concerns and conflicts within the team.
  • Propose solutions either independently or through working with the VetCare Practice Care Centre team to resolve issues.
 

Veterinary Responsibilities: 

 
  • Approaching, greeting, handling, and treating animals with kindness, compassion and patience. Involves contributing to an environment in which animals feel safe and secure
  • Building positive client relationships through remaining calm in all circumstances, displaying genuine care and compassion towards clients and their pets, being respectful in all interactions and providing exceptional customer service
  • Examining, diagnosing and treating diseases or abnormal conditions in individual animals
  • Prescribing and administering animal medications and vaccines
  • Taking cell and tissue samples and performing diagnostic test
  • Advocating, prescribing and administering preventive care for the wellness needs of pets
  • Treating sick or injured animals by prescribing medication, setting bones, dressing wounds, or performing surgery on animals
  • Maintaining relevant, comprehensive medical records with the support of the Practice’s systems
  • Vaccinating animals to prevent and treat diseases
  • Responsible for overall operation of animal hospital, adhering to the billing practices of the Practice, as may be amended or updated from time to time
  • Committing to practicing a high standard of medicine, while upholding the Code
  • Performing routine, emergency, and post-mortem examinations
  • Notifying the Practice promptly (no more than 5 business days) if you receive any notifications of complaint from the College and provide the Practice a copy of any complaint and copies of all further correspondence with the College regarding any such complaint
  • Effectively communicating diagnosis and treatment plan to the Practice team and the client
  • Providing a range of veterinary services including obstetrics, dentistry, and euthanasia
  • Communicating ideas, expressing opinions, and responding to team members in appropriate and respectful ways while possibly supervising animal health technologists and animal care workers
  • May conduct veterinary research related to areas such as animal nutrition, health care products development and disease prevention and control
  • May enforce government regulations in disease control and food production including animal or animal-based food inspection

Requirements: 

  • 4-5 year university degree in veterinary medicine or equivalent (as well as any required pre-veterinary studies for the university program, if applicable) 
  • Completion of national certification examinations or equivalent are required 
  • Provincial license to practice in British Columbia or ability to obtain 
  • 3+ years of experience as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, including a minimum of 1 year in a leadership and/or supervisory role such as practice management, regulatory/policy, finance or quality management
  • Proficiency in internal medicine, diagnostics, and preventive care. General surgery and general dentistry are preferred, but not required.
  • Experience developing and implementing standards, procedures and structures to support high quality care and best in class experiences.
  • Proven leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.

health and wellbeing of our workforce. To support these goals, Amazon is seeking an experienced and dynamic Onsite Medical Representative (OMR) to join our team. In this position, you will work closely with the WHS site manager, WHS specialist, and occasionally the Injury Prevention Specialist (IPS). This includes attending weekly associate safety committee meetings, greeting all new hires for the site or through daily one-on-one interaction. Additionally, the OMR will participate in weekly case management review meetings as necessary.
As an OMR, you will independently assess and administer first aid as well as offer guidance to Amazon Associates (AAs) on both occupational and non-occupational injuries or illnesses. You should be passionate about learning and advocating health and wellness principles to consistently support AAs on a daily basis. You will refer care to outside medical
providers as needed, and learn about OSHA regulations, risk, and analysis.
The OMR will function as a part of the larger team onsite, assisting with all first aid needs and support safety operations as needed.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Provide first aid support and make referrals to outside medical providers as necessary.
- Minimize the AA risk of injury through awareness, education, and proactive engagement.
- Maintain all records of care provided to AAs.
- Coordinate and maintain the workers' compensation and return to work programs for AAs with work related injuries.
- Provide daily activity logs and end of shift reports.
- Engage with AAs and leadership on operations floor to provide coaching regarding observed at-risk work habits.
- Maintain a clean working environment and ensure appropriate medical supply inventory is maintained.
- Participate in training and certification to facilitate first aid, CPR and AED certifications classes.
- Maintain all first aid, CPR, AED credentials.
- Work flexible shifts which could include days, nights, holidays, and/or weekends.
- Assist with random saliva drug testing protocols.
- Maintain effective care delivery in emergencies and assist emergency response at the site.
The following must be obtained within 3 weeks of start date:
Alberta: Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Code Advanced First Aider certification from a Canadian certifying authority (RN only).
British Columbia: Occupational first aid - level II or level III certification from WorkSafe BC or an entity recognized by WorkSafe BC.
Quebec: First aid in the workplace training from an organization recognized by the Committee on Standards, Equity, Health and Safety at Work (CNESST).
Basic Qualifications
- High school or equivalent diploma
- AND
- Must have successfully completed the first aid training course or a first aid examination developed or approved by WorkSafe BC; AND
- Must have one of the following:
- o Valid Provincial Primary Care Paramedic Certification from the Ministry of Health Emergency Medical Assistants (EMA) Licensing Board; OR
- o Current valid Emergency Medical Responder Certification from the Emergency Medical Assistants (EMA) Licensing Board; OR
- o Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) from the British Columbia College of Nurses and midwives (BCCNM);
- OR
- o In the last year, six months job experience as a Military Medical Technician (Canadian Armed Forces).
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified to teach first aid, CPR, and AED training from the Canadian Red Cross
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Experience with an industrial wellness program
- Experience managing musculoskeletal disorders, ergonomics, and coaching on body mechanics
- Demonstrated work experience with OSHA regulations and Workers Compensation

**Job Summary**
Manages the coordination of activities on the nursing units at Peace Island Medical Center, with responsibility for results including costs, methods and staffing for 24-hour nursing operations on a nursing unit. Responsible for operational performance, quality, service environment and regulatory compliance. Receives assignments in the form of objectives and determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals.
