Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines
~ Provides business partners and functional subject matter experts actuarial guidance and business insights related to profitability. Acts as account manager on key broker/client engagements.
Builds strong relationships with team members, peers, business partners and leaders across multiple functions in order to ensure optimal implementation of business strategies aligned with actuarial insights and analytics.
Collaborates with and influences senior leadership in the development and implementation of pricing strategy for the Canadian Branch . Drives innovation in products through thought leadership.
Participates with senior leadership in the development and implementation of actuarial policies, business strategies and goals, regularly evaluating performance against goals, and holding self and team accountable for achieving desired results.
Oversees and/or executes onthe production of highly technical actuarial analyses and reports to communicate to other analytical staff and to senior management.
Stays up to date in actuarial expertise, provincial/federal regulations and industry trends and development in order to lead decisions related to line of business.
Ensures team is maintaining clear documentation of methods.

Scope of Position
Our client is currently seeking an individual to provide leadership for their fast-growing environmental services division. The division’s offerings are broad-based and include broad environmental consulting from Studies and Planning through Remediation, as well as Climate Change, Resiliency, Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability. This role is focused on growing the division around the world, through the development of external facing new business opportunities, as well as in active collaboration with other service areas within our client through cross-selling. Functional Tasks
- Developing and expanding a continuous stream of new stand-alone environmental work, as well as cross-selling into ongoing company proposals and projects.
- Client engagement at VP and CEO level with existing company clients and the development of new client relationships for ESG and the broader business.
- Managing a multi-disciplinary team of professionals providing environmental consulting, community, sustainability / corporate responsibility, climate change / resiliency / carbon management consulting and project delivery services within the business globally and regionally.

Scope of Position
This is an exciting new leadership role to build a business practice around Indigenous Engagement (IE). IE is taking a more prominent role in large stakeholder projects across various markets in Canada and abroad. Reporting to the Managing Director of the Environmental Services Group (ESG), this person will take ownership of the company’s IE program, create a business strategy, and implement an IE consulting business. The role is located in the Greater Toronto Area however, Indigenous initiatives will be actively focusing on targets in the key growth markets across Canada and globally. This role is also accountable for leading the implementation of relevant strategies to engage Indigenous communities and businesses in other company projects, with benefits to both the company and to Indigenous stakeholders. Such strategies will position our client to become a leading service provider engaging with Indigenous communities and businesses.
This role is primarily external facing, developing a leading-edge IE practice and service offering for our external clients. The individual will also be responsible for company’s internal IE programs.
The Environmental Services Group provides scientific expertise and environmental, risk, social consulting, sustainability and management consultancy services throughout Canada and abroad.
Functional Tasks
- Develop and implement a business plan to build a revenue and profit generating consulting business around IE.
- Interact at VP and CEO level of clients to advise them on Indigenous Engagement.
- Provide subject matter expertise and coaching to business units/project teams working in, or near, Indigenous territories or communities, on engagements and opportunities.
- Identify Indigenous opportunities and capacity to participate with company’sprojects.
- Develop and support strategies to involve local Indigenous communities and encourage support from internal colleagues and clients.
- Coach and support regional operations with contracts, bids, and projects, as required.

As a Risk Assessment Specialist, you will be part of the foundation of our human health and ecological risk assessment (HHERA) group. Candidates can be based in any Matrix office location. The successful applicant will be involved in a broad range of risk assessment, risk management and toxicology projects with responsibilities as follows:
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of federal and provincial risk-based regulations
- Act as Technical Accountable for HHERA for a variety of clients for risk-based management of contaminated sites across Canada
- Provide support as an expert witness if/when needed in the regulatory approval process
- Provide senior review for quality assurance of technical risk assessment and risk management reports
- Conduct presentations on regulatory changes to other Matrix technical teams and our clients on an as-needed basis
- Provide leadership to a team of professionals who conduct HHERA across Canada, often in addition to providing other contaminated sites expertise
- Work with risk assessment practitioners and contaminated sites project managers to advance risk assessment and risk management skills among Matrix personnel
- Promote site-specific risk assessment and risk management services within Matrix and externally to clients
- Lead or contribute to site-specific risk assessment business development opportunities across Canada and provide strategic proposals and budgets for new work opportunities
- Regularly and effectively communicate with regulators, clients, and technical staff
- Maintain risk assessment and risk management models and provide training to practitioners
- Develop and maintain a hazard assessment resource library (e.g., current toxicological profiles).
What We Are Looking For
- Minimum of 12 years practicing risk assessment and applying Canadian risk assessment protocols
- M.Sc., M.Eng., or Ph.D. in toxicology, biology, applied chemistry, environmental science, environmental engineering, or related discipline(s)
- Eligibility or current Professional designation in a relevant association
- Comprehensive understanding and experience using federal and provincial guidelines and risk assessment frameworks
- Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to lead and mentor project teams
- Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.

The Risk & Control Assessment function within GITR is responsible for identifying and assessing technology risks to determine potential unmitigated impact, the effectiveness of the control environment and assessing the final level of residual risk.
We are seeking a Manager in the Global IT Risk team to support the execution of Technology Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSA). In this role, you will work closely with Senior Managers and other stakeholders to ensure the successful completion of technology risk assessments across various technology segments and for technology processes. This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in operational risk management while contributing to the organization’s overall risk framework.
What will you do?
- Execute risk and control assessments in alignment with the standard and requirements.
- Collaborate with colleagues in Global IT Risk, Risk Register Leads, and second line risk management teams to ensure timely and accurate deliverables.
- Track and monitor actions for identified issues, ensuring completion within stipulated timelines.
- Escalate late deliverables and critical issues to Senior Managers for resolution.
- Prepare and maintain documentation to support governance requirements.
- Support the analysis of changes in the business environment to identify potential impacts on risk exposures.

Position Scope
The primary responsibility of the Director of IT is to support the firm’s business objectives through leadership of a team which: develops, maintains, evolves, and optimizes a variety of Information Systems (IS)/business applications and their associated infrastructure, as well as delivers cost effective, reliable, and responsive IT services to the company’s user community which meet or exceed defined service level agreements.
The Director of IT plans, coordinates, directs, and designs all operational activities of the IT department, as well as provides direction and support for IT solutions that enhance mission-critical business operations. They work closely with decision makers in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization, as well as liaise with the company’s US, European, and Asian office resources to help ensure regional IT requirements are met.
Position Location and Travel
This position is located at the company’s corporate headquarters in Ottawa. Minimal travel is required.
Functional Tasks
Individually or through leading the team, the Director of IT will:
Strategic & Operational Planning
- Formulate and implement strategic, and corresponding operational plans, for acquiring and enabling efficient and cost-effective IT/IS, which include plans for the transition from fully custom, to off-the shelf and/or customized cloud-based solutions where appropriate
- Manage IT department strategic and operational planning including: business requirements, project planning, and organizing and negotiating resource allocation
- Develop IT departmental budgets ensuring compliance with business goals, objectives, and guidelines
- Develop and implement IT policies and procedures, amongst those include: architecture, security, storage and disaster recovery, internal IT control standards, purchasing, service provision, and service level agreements
Human Resource Management & Internal Communications
- Lead the IT team, including recruitment, supervision, scheduling, development, & performance mgmt
- Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with the organization’s executives, department heads, and end users regarding pertinent IT activities
- Define and communicate project milestones, service level agreements, and resource allocation to executive team, department leads, support staff, and end users
- Ensure the appropriate IT infrastructure is in place to support the business, as well as plans to enable its continued growth; both based on approved business cases
- Develop and monitor key IT/IS metrics and benchmark performance to determine operating costs, productivity levels, and upgrade requirements
- Direct research on potential technology solutions and implementations in support of new initiatives, opportunities, procurement efforts, and growth plans
- Authorize and oversee the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, and support of all hardware and software based on departmental needs and approved expenditures
- Ensure the financial and configuration mgmt of all departmental hardware and software solutions
- Develop bid requirements for all hardware and software upgrades, review submitted bids for compliance with stated requirements, and recommend the appropriate awards
- Oversee the negotiation and administration of: vendor outsourcing, consultant contracts, and service agreements, working with other stakeholders as appropriate
- Manage the repair and return of IT/IS equipment, working with other internal resources as required
Business Application Development & Support
- Develop, maintain, evolve, and optimize business applications based on off-the-shelf, customized and custom software, in line with the market’s movement toward cloud-based applications
- Where appropriate, work with providers to configure applications to ensure solutions align with business processes, tactical planning, and strategic vision
Help Desk & Other Support Services
- Ensure the setup of client systems (e.g. laptops, tablets, desktops, workstations, servers, printers, scanners, handheld devices, etc.) and the administration of required changes
- Provide help desk and technical support services (1st and 2nd line) to troubleshoot and address hardware, software, and network issues, in line with internal service level agreements while managing escalation as appropriate
Preferred Education and Experience
- University degree in IT/IS combined with 10+ years of related work experience
- Master’s IT/IS degree or an MBA with technology as a core component are assets
- 5+ years of experience managing an IT team and operation
- Strong understanding of human resource management principles, practices, and procedures
- Expert level technical knowledge of current and emerging LAN/WAN IT/IS solutions, with direct experience with a range of IT/IS infrastructure, applications, and/or platforms such as: antivirus, backup and recovery, business applications, CMS, CRM, database & OS, ERP, firewall, helpdesk, reporting, security, servers, and storage
- Proven experience in IT/IS strategic and operational planning and policy development
- Solutions design & deployment experience from business req’ts analysis through to daily mgmt
