The Registered Nurse (RN) is a regulated health care professional who is accountable and responsible for providing quality patient focused nursing care to patients in the Critical Care Unit. As part of the inter-professional health care team, the RN will practice according to the nursing practice expectations set by Osler, the regulatory practice standards of the College of Nurses and the legislative requirements set by the Regulated Health Professions Act.

  • Safe nursing practice in all aspects of the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care
  • Compliance with policies and procedures associated with observations
  • Professional, patient-centred care to ensure patient safety and physiological and psychological well-being, associated with creating a therapeutic relationship and environment
  • Providing care in a compassionate and caring manner within a diverse cultural environment

Care of critical medical, surgical, and respiratory patients. Must perform numerous added nursing skills and appropriate delegated medical acts. May involve charge nurse duties on shift.

Qualifications

  • Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current Heart & Stroke approved Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at time of hire
  • Current Heart & Stroke ACLS certification required at time of hire and ongoing
  • Current Critical Care Certificate required or in progress
  • Minimum of 1 year recent experience in a Critical Care setting
  • Ability to interpret advanced arrhythmias and 12 lead ECG
  • Must be comfortable with equipment i.e. monitors, pumps, ECG machines, phlebotomy, invasive pressure monitoring ventilators.
  • Must possess excellent decision making & problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated strong leadership & assessment skills
  • Must possess excellent documentation skills
  • Ability to work well under stress
  • Proven history of ongoing professional development and be a self-directed learner.
  • Knowledge and skill of PRISMA machine an asset
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position
