Grounded in our commitment to Client and Family Centred Care the key foci on the RN and RPN role is to provide and coordinate home health nursing services to diverse group of individuals, families and groups according to the College of Nurses of Ontario Practice Standards, the policies and procedures of VHA, the program where they provide services, and the Standards of Practice in Community Health Nursing.

We are currently seeking Registered Practical Nurse (RPNs) and Registered Nurses (RNs) to support our Palliative care program in Durham region. This is a Visiting Nurse position, candidates must possess a valid Ontario driver's license (G License) and have access to a reliable vehicle for traveling.

The Palliative care program delivers home nursing and end-of-life care for individuals, families, and groups. Palliative nurses collaborate inter-professionally with external palliative care community teams, care coordinators, physicians, nurse practitioners, and personal support workers (PSWs).


 

Key Areas of Accountability

VHA's Nurses are required to do the following tasks, but not limited to:

  • Assess, monitor, and make care planning and care coordination.

  • Evaluate care plan interventions through on-going reassessment and evaluation results.

  • Ensure the quality of patient care by identifying and acting on factors which affects practice autonomy and delivery of quality care.

  • Demonstrate professionalism, leadership, judgement, and accountability in interactions with clients and families.

  • Support safe client care through the development of knowledge and skills in accordance with our principles of continuous quality improvement.

  • Inform the nursing supervisor of any client activities, relevant concerns, or changes in the client’s condition or care plan, and submit appropriate documentation to the case coordinator.

  • Maintain documentation standards according to the College of Nurses of Ontario.

  • Participate in a standby/on-call rotation to be available for answering calls and respond, if needed.

  • Participate in team meetings, as required during the stated availability.

Required Qualifications:

  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).

  • Membership of your Professional Association preferred (RNAO/WeRPN).

  • RPN diploma or RN diploma/degree from a recognized university or college.

  • Hold a valid First Aid or CPR Certification.

  • A moderate level of wound care or venipuncture knowledge and experience is an asset.

  • Acute Care and Medical-Surgical nursing experience is an asset.

  • Knowledge of community nursing is an asset.

  • Demonstrate effective communication (written and verbal) and documentation skills.

  • Demonstrate reliable attendance, punctuality, and availability for the role.

  • Commitment to modeling lifelong learning and professional growth and can apply critical thinking skills to provide client care.

  • A valid Ontario driver’s license (G License) and a reliable vehicle for traveling are required.

As a specialized Registered Veterinary Technician, you will perform the following key responsibilities:
+ Provide advanced care for 7 to 10 critically ill and injured patients on average per shift
+ Assist with emergency resuscitation, trauma stabilization and critical care management
+ Prepare patients for anesthesia and surgical procedures, monitoring vitals throughout
+ Assist or perform diagnostic testing, lab work and imaging
+ Maintain and prepare medical equipment, medications and supplies
+ Collaborate closely with a skilled team of specialists and technicians to ensure seamless patient care
+ Participate in ongoing professional development
+ Contribute to mentoring and training junior team members
**Qualifications:**
+ Registered Veterinary Technician credential
+ **Open to new graduates; experience in emergency and specialty services is an asset**
+ Ability to remain calm and focused in a fast-paced environment
+ Excellent communication skills and a compassionate approach to client care
+ Proven ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary medical team
+ Strong attention to detail and commitment to high standards of patient care

+ Caring for our patients; feeding, walking and offering a gentle voice of assurance
+ Ensure animal housing or enclosure is clean, sanitary and comfortable
+ Create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for patients and pet parents

**404 Veterinary Emergency and Referral Hospital** is welcoming an Emergency Registered Veterinary Technician on a permanent basis to join their team . Previous emergency experience is preferred but not mandatory. Our 24 hour emergency department is not only supported by our in hospital team of specialists but also by our family of specialty hospitals. We are proud to be able to collaborate with our local sister hospitals, Mississauga Oakville Veterinary Emergency Hospital and Toronto Veterinary Emergency Hospital in order to provide the best care for our patients. Our emergency department also receives additional support and guidance from the Critical Care department at Toronto Veterinary Emergency Hospital.
The emergency team works on a rotational schedule including overnights and weekends. This allows for even distribution of the shifts and an overall improved hospital experience. Our specialists also participate in providing after hours support to our emergency team.
