EHS & Compliance Coordinator (12 Month Contract)

Our client based in Concord, Ontario is a global leader in fluid handling systems. They are actively looking for a Health and Safety/Compliance Coordinator to join their team on a one year maternity leave contract basis. In this role you will work alongside the local operations, and Divisional/Group Health & Safety team to ensure the company’s operations comply with OHSA and other regulatory agencies, company policies, and industry best practice. The successful candidate will develop, monitor, and continuously improve the company’s health & Safety functions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• OHSA compliance and record keeping
• Oversee contractor compliance
• Maintain ISO documentation.
• Manage and report on company leading and lagging indicators by using EcoOnline Portal
• Maintenance of EHS related records and delivery of Group reporting
• Ensure company goals, initiatives, and campaigns are completed
• Lead incident investigations and manage the return-to-work Program
• Work alongside senior management to build responses to JHSC recommendations.
• Communicate information to employees regarding health and safety policies and procedures
• Prepare detailed statistical trend analysis and develop reports and presentations including the preparation of graphs and charts
• Plan, execute, and maintain safety training needs of the company and manage Safety training Matrix
• Manage client portals to ensure all H&S/compliance requirement are met and inquiries responded to
• Conduct site orientations for new employees, contractors, and visitors
• Conduct safety meetings, JHSC meetings, safety moments, and coordinate Tool-box-talks
• Manage site Behavior Based Safety program
• Manage site Emergency Response; emergency drills, first response
• Conduct audits and inspections as required
• Assist with compliance related inspections and inquiries
• Sustainability champion for the company
• Participate in annual surveillance audits with ISO auditor and SXS ISO Consultant
• Schedule ISO related meetings / tasks
• Process Non-Conformances (NC) in PLM software
• Compile NC in PLM and report to VP Ops for weekly review
• Frequently collaborate with HR, production, service, and engineering.

REQUIREMENTS :

• Strong knowledge of OHSA, and industry safety standards with 3 years of experience in a Health and Safety Officer/Coordinator role
• Self-motivator with strong organization and time management skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work with different levels of management
• Bachelor’s Degree/College Diploma in Health & Safety or equivalent education and experience
• Prior experience with ISO, behavioural based safety programs

Job Summary:
The Rail Safety Training & Compliance Manager is responsible for developing, maintaining, delivering and overseeing the implementation of rail safety training programs in alignment with regulatory requirements and organizational safety policies. This role ensures all curriculum meets applicable customer, provincial, and local regulations, and that operational personnel receive effective and compliant safety instruction and training. The Manager will also monitor and audit compliance efforts, investigate safety incidents for educational improvement, and serve as a key liaison between training, customer, operations, and regulatory bodies.
Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development & Instructional Oversight
+ Oversee development and updates regarding comprehensive rail safety training curriculum, manuals, and instructional materials.
+ Ensure training content aligns with customer and company-specific safety requirements.

Leadership & Collaboration
+ Supervise and support operations, instructional staff, and administrative personnel.
+ Serve as the point of contact for internal departments and external regulatory agencies regarding training and compliance matters.
+ Coordinate with HR and Operations to schedule training, track participation, and enforce compliance.
Qualifications:
Required:
+ 5+ years of experience in rail operations, rail safety, or training roles.
+ In-depth knowledge of CROR.
+ Experience developing training programs or instructional materials.
+ Strong presentation, facilitation, and communication skills.

Overview

We are looking for a safety coordinator to join a successful manufacturing company with headquarters in Surrey, BC.

The health and safety advisor will be both tactical and strategic. They should be comfortable with a site level position that requires a mix of time in the operations and in the office. You will working in tandem with another safety coordinator and report to the Director of HR.

**ABOUT THE ROLE**
The Health & Safety Coordinator will help to support the regional Health & Safety Manager and regional business team in implementation of health and safety management systems and processes. In this role, you will provide health and safety guidance to the operations to help the region comply with Amrize Standards, Country level policies, and jurisdictional regulations. Serving as a strategic business partner, you will provide technical subject matter expertise and guidance on hazard recognition and risk mitigation controls through active engagement with front line leaders and workers. This role works out of our Edmonton Ellwood office.
**WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH**
+ Provide direct health and safety coaching to the operational site level leadership, and safety committee representatives and embedded safety personnel
+ Assist with facilitation and coordination of training including annual startups, supervisor seminars, Visual Personal Commitment, Boots on the Ground program, etc.
+ Perform risk assessments and develop safe work procedures for regional and country purposes, and provide guidance and support to operations to meet OHS and company expectations.
+ Assist with serious incident investigations including recordable injuries, near misses, critical incidents, and help the company comply with OHS inspections and potential orders.
+ Plan, coordinate, and conduct annual COR audits, support regional operations in preparation for company Health, Safety, Environment Management System (HSEMS) audits, develop action plans for continuous improvement, and participate in North America HSEMS audits identifying compliance gaps against company health and safety standards.
+ Support HS Manager and regional operations in development and implementation of H&S priorities, guidance documents, key lessons learned, best practices, policies, and assist in implementation of both country and regional HSE-IP objectives.
+ Support and guide regional operations in claim management and injury prevention, and assist with utilization of internal reporting tools to meet country reporting requirements.
+ Support regional operations in implementation and maintenance of programs such as SiteDocs, iCare, Avetta, etc.
+ Assist in developing and sharing regional communications to all stakeholders including key lessons, best practices, alerts, and KPIs.
+ Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
**WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR**
**Education:** Post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree
**Field of Study Preferred:** Occupational Health & Safety
**Required Work Experience:** 3-5 years working experience as a health & safety professional, preferably in the construction industry
**Required Training/Certifications:** CSO/NCSO, COR auditor certification, CRSP preferred (or eligible)
**Required Technical Skills:** MS Office, Google Suite
**Travel Requirements:** approximately 15% travel outside of the local area

**Major Requirements:**
The successful candidate will report to the Manager, Health and Safety on the Project. The purpose of this role is to support the project achieving top tier Safety and Security results. This involves interfacing across all project teams to establish solid relationships, provide leadership on Safety & Security elements, resources, audits, training, evaluation of own and contractor/subcontractor systems, analyze safety related data, and develop programs and processes for the continued improvement of Safety & Security performance.

**Qualifications**
**Minimum Requirements:**
+ BA/BS + 4 YORE or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
**Preferred Requirement:**
+ Typically, a minimum of 7 years of professional experience in on-site health and safety role (inspection, coordinator, onboarding and training, and / or reporting).
+ Experience in working within construction environments, major infrastructure / aviation program experience is considered an asset.
+ Demonstrable experience in developing and implementing effective health and safety management plans.
+ Strong stakeholder management skills and comfortable in working with the owner, consultants, and contractors.
+ Diploma/certificate in health and safety and / or equivalent training experience.
