Salary: 42.40 per hour(approximately $77,162.74 per annum), 35 hour/week
Settlement

Reporting to the Occupational Health and Safety Manager within the Operations and Protective Services Division the Health and Safety Training Officer is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering comprehensive health and safety training programs across the organization and providing reports to the Health and Safety Manager. The Officer ensures that employees, contractors, and vendors are educated on workplace safety protocols, regulatory compliance, and emergency procedures. This role is key to promoting a strong safety culture within the organization by ensuring all personnel are well-equipped to prevent accidents and respond effectively to emergencies. The Officer will also be responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of training programs and making improvements as needed by auditing training and performance. Additionally, the Officer will be responsible to conduct inspections, complete all required departmental documentation and submit to WSCC.
Required Education and Experience
Minimum Level of Education/Training:
- Bachelor’s degree or College Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Education, Training and Development, or a related field.
- Alternatively, a diploma or certification in Occupational Health and Safety with extensive training and instructional experience may be acceptable.
Minimum Level of Experience:
- 2 years of experience in developing and delivering health and safety training, preferably in a municipal, public sector, or industrial environment.
- Experience in designing and delivering both in-person and virtual training programs.
- Experience with training compliance and certification management.
- Experience in developing and implementing health and safety programs, including Standard Operating Procedures, policies and training.
Assets:
- Experience in the municipal or public sector , particularly in a training or safety-focused role.
- Proficiency in developing e-learning modules or experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) for tracking training.
- Experience in emergency response training or crisis management training.
- Bilingual or multilingual abilities can be an asset, especially in regions with diverse populations.
Certifications:
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST), NCSO or similar certification is preferred.
- Train-the-Trainer certification or equivalent experience in instructional design.
- First Aid, CPR, AED Certification required, especially in training for emergency response.
- Additional relevant certifications in safety training, such as Instructor Certification for WHMIS or OSHA Outreach Trainer.
Additional Requirements:
- Canadian Citizenship or Landed Immigrant Status
- Clear Criminal and Vulnerable Sectors Record Check (Every 3 years by RCMP)
- The ability to communicate both written and orally in English.
Note: Equivalencies or Higher that include a combination of education and experience may be considered at the time of selecting candidates when the requisite skill attainment can be demonstrated.
All relevant certifications are required at time of application. The successful candidate would be required to submit a Criminal Record Check, as well as an acceptable Driver’s Abstract.

Worksite Safety Compliance Centre is looking to add another Instructor to our current training team, specifically for the delivery of our CPO-approved Working at Heights program. If you are a knowledgeable and experienced health and safety instructor who is passionate about construction safety education and keeping workers safe, this role is for you!
This full-time position will deliver training at our Training Centres in Burlington, Hamilton and St. Catharines, Ontario. The Health & Safety Instructor reports to the Manager, Instructor-Led Training.
As a Health & Safety Instructor your key responsibilities are:
- Delivering engaging and informative Working at Heights training to job seekers, the general public and new and current members of the construction industry
- Evaluating participants through practical skills and written evaluation
- Organizing, filing and submitting digital and hard copy participant records following training
- Participating in team meetings and instructor development workshops
The right candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:
- 3+ years experience delivering training (Working at Heights program preferred)
- Background in construction management and/or other fall hazard-related industry
- Work experience or certification in occupational health & safety preferred
- Strong interest educating people on the importance and value of health & safety training
- Self-starter who is able to work independently, while also contributing to a team
- Strong presentation and adult-engagement skills
- Valid Ontarios Driver Licence - occasional travel by car for work
- Able to legally work in Canada

What You'll Do:
- Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide safety policies and programs to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations (e.g., Transport Canada, FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, NSC).
- Oversee and monitor driver qualification programs, including training, licensing, and certifications.

What We're Looking For:
- Minimum 7-10 years of experience in transportation safety, compliance, or risk management.
- Proven leadership experience in a safety or compliance-focused role within the trucking industry.
- In-depth knowledge of Canadian and U.S. transportation safety regulations (NSC, DOT, FMCSA, etc.).
- Strong understanding of OHS regulations, environmental policies, and risk management.
- Experience conducting audits, safety inspections, and compliance reviews.
- Proficiency in using safety management software, ELD systems, and reporting tools.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Certifications such as Certified Director of Safety (CDS), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or equivalent is an asset.

What do our Food Safety & Compliance Specialists do?
Our Food Safety & Compliance Specialists help our hotel, restaurant, and grocery clients ensure brand standards, food quality and friendly service for their customers. They also:
● Conduct assessments that measure conformity to established regulatory,
industry, and proprietary brand standards for clients
● Observe food prep and cooking standards to ensure food safety, health,
and sanitation practices
● Partner with clients to address root causes of assessment discrepancies
and develop corrective action plans
● Teach and coach clients how to make their workplace a safer and healthier
environment for themselves and THEIR customers
● Travel up to 50%, or 10 days per month, including some evening and
weekend work
Requirements
What do you need?
● Meet the requirements to obtain a CP-FS certification
● Highly flexible Sunday to Saturday work schedule that lets you work
around personal commitments
● Desire to travel via car and/or plane up to 50% of time
● Ability to lift 10 lbs chest high, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and
reaching
● Have excellent listening and communication skills
● Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
