What You’ll Be Doing
- Work with and direct contractors to implement construction safety management systems and other safety requirements.
- Provide safety leadership for both new and existing construction projects, including structural steel, mechanical, and electrical equipment installation.
- Lead weekly contractor safety representatives’ meetings made up of trades working onsite.
- Conduct formal safety audits of activities related to construction and equipment installation.
- Review contractor JSA’s to confirm completeness and accuracy of work being performed.
- Lead, support, and participate in key safety initiatives.
- Manage multiple reports for local, regional, and regulatory agencies, as well as internal/global reporting.
- Calculate risks and challenge the status quo with deep analysis of situations.
- Develop and present PowerPoint presentations to communicate incident reports, trends, work rule changes, plant status, and more.
What You Bring
- Minimum of 5 years of experience leading safety on construction projects with multiple trades.
- Proven experience managing projects requiring critical thinking (kaizen), problem solving, data analysis, and verification.
- Applied understanding of key regulatory frameworks including CSA, OHSA, ANSI, and NFPA standards.
- NCSO designation (achieved or in progress) required.
- CRSP designation (achieved or in progress) strongly preferred.
- OSHA 30 Construction Industry Outreach Program, OSHA 510 Construction Industry Standards, or OSHA 500 Train the Trainer (U.S.) considered an asset.

How will you create an impact:
The Advisor, Workplace Safety Strategy, the Advisor is responsible for aligning WHS services with Interior Health’s (IH) strategic and operational plans. Establishing requirements for an effective health and safety management system. The Advisor will support Interior Health’s ability to continuously identify hazards and control risk in the workplace.
The Advisor participates in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of WHS strategies, and is responsible and accountable for WHS practices and regulatory compliance and for contributing to the development of broader Human Resources policy and direction.
The Advisor will engage with both internal and external agencies and working groups whose mandates are strategic planning and partnership to enhance systems for managing health and safety and improving outcomes.
In alignment with IH’s Occupational Health & Safety Program, employees shall adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures at all times and attend all required training. Employees are responsible to report any identified hazards, unsafe conditions or incidents to your manager or supervisor immediately.
What will you work on:
- Develops, implements, and monitors strategic plans to support the organizational targets and the implementation/sustainability of the Health and Safety Management System. Monitors, audits, and evaluates the effectiveness of OHS programs and reports findings to the organization as requested or required.
- Provides technical advice, guidance and leadership by interpreting regulations, collective agreements, directives, and standards, including the application of safety procedures and standards of practice, appropriate intervention, and/or preventative measures.
- Serves as a senior advisor to key partners who are change sponsors within the organization to action the organization strategic priorities related to health and safety.
- Provides guidance and advice to members of the organization with respect to their roles and responsibilities in the internal responsibility system.
- Participates in the development of policies and procedures relating to OHS issues by interpreting WorkSafeBC (WSBC) and other legislated requirements, researching current literature, analyzing statistics, collaborating with other centers of expertise.
- Develops tools, guidelines, and resources to support site and department based implementation of corporate OHS program policies and procedures.
- Develops and provides reports as requested.
- Monitors and/or audits work site inspection reports to identify trends and provides appropriate recommendations to management to correct unsafe and hazardous conditions and/or processes.
- Participates and represents IH perspectives in provincial and/or organizational initiatives. Including supporting the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees (JOHSC) to full scope of regulatory requirements.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualfications
Education, Training and Experience
- A Bachelor’s degree in a health-related and/or occupational health and safety discipline.
- Three to five years of recent, related experience working in a healthcare environment, including strategic planning and development, classroom facilitation, project management, change management, quality improvement experience, and experience with large-scale organizational change efforts.
- Demonstrated knowledge related to prevention of violence in the workplace psychological safety and safe patient handling.
- Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Skills and Abilities
- Develop and support strategic plans.
- Working knowledge of BC Occupational Health and Safety Regulation and the Workers Compensation Act, Healthcare Collective Agreements, and safety standards.

THE OPPORTUNITY
Aritzia is growing and our Workplace Safety & Health team is growing with it. This is a unique opportunity to lead and motivate the team responsible for the measures necessary to protect the safety of our people and clients at our modern, multi-channel Distribution Centre located in New Westminster, BC. You will play a pivotal role in implementing processes, procedures, and programs to absorb operational variability, prevent the occurrence of serious or potentially serious (SIF, SIF-P) events, and to continuously learn and improve. THE ROLE
As the Senior Manager/ Manager, Workplace Safety & Health, you will lead the team to:
- Work with the appropriate Business Support partners to seamlessly lead the day-to-day function of the department in support of corporate objectives, while enabling progressive career development and an incredible employee experience.
- Establish Aritzia’s approach to Workplace Safety & Health
- Set standards surrounding the steps we take in our safety procedures
- Minimize impacts associated with hazardous exposures
- Minimize impacts with emergencies in our spaces
- Respond to events quickly and accurately
- Manage, maintain, and monitor Workplace Safety & Health risk
THE QUALIFICATIONS
The Senior Manager/ Manager, Workplace Safety & Health, has:
- Proven and best-in-class skills, education, and/or applicable certifications:
- Holds a university degree in related discipline and related occupational health and safety experience
- Holds or is eligible to become a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP).
- Has advanced working knowledge of concepts, principles, practices, and techniques pertaining to safety management.
- Strong working knowledge of the relevant policies, legislation, and legal terminology related to Health and Safety Management.
- A commitment to learn, apply, champion, and enrich Aritzia's Values and Business and People Leadership principles
- The skills to collaborate strategically with cross-functional partners in the pursuit of shared business outcomes
- The ability to set clear objectives and design a strategy that inspires the team
- A dedication to quality and investing in results and new business opportunities that add value
THE COMPENSATION
The typical hiring range for this position is $100,000 - $150,000 CAD per year. The final agreed upon salary may vary based on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experience. Additionally, this position may be eligible for bonus
