Role
Reporting to a Senior Engineer, the role of an Automation and SCADA Engineer is designing and implementing of automation systems in electrical facilities for the Transmission and Distribution, Power generation, Industrial and Renewables sectors. An automation and SCADA Engineer will apply their knowledge and experience to analyze, evaluate, and create new designs, drawings and revise existing designs, drawings and programs with guidance from senior engineering personnel, as needed.
Qualifications
- Preference will be given to candidates that possess previous engineering experience in electrical facilities for the Transmission and Distribution, Power generation, Industrial and Renewables sectors
- Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in construction and field installations
- Knowledge of industry standard protocols such as IEC (61850, 60870-5), non-IEC (DNP3, Modbus), and related cyber security (IEC 62351, NERC CIP).
- Working knowledge of modern control systems (SCADA, RTUs, PLCs)
- GE, Siemens, ABB, EATON, SEL, Allen Bradley, Survalent, Honeywell, AES
- Ability to balance Office Design and Configuration with Field Engineering Implementation
- Ability to assess and troubleshoot in the field configuration and communication challenges.
- Apply knowledge of components, arrangements, and standards to complete design packages for substations that include, but are not limited to, schematics, wiring diagrams, and bills of materials.
- Competent in basic computer skills to include Microstation, Autocad, Trane Software and Microsoft Office products
- Good Knowledge of relevant legislations, standards, regulations, guides and good practise (CSA, ANSI, IEC and IEEE standards.)
- Familiarity in design of electrical facilities for Transmission and Distribution, Power generation, Industrial and Renewables sector.

- Degree in Electrical Engineering or related Engineering degree required; or Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited post-secondary institution
- 2 – 8 years of experience in the Utilities industry is preferred but not required
- Experience in construction and field installations an asset
- Proficient in medium/high voltage power engineering in electrical facilities for the Transmission and Distribution, Power generation, Industrial and Renewables sectors
- Proficient ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics
- Possess strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Eligible for registration with APEGGA or ASET
- Dedicated team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to work within strict deadlines
- Navigate computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks

This is a vital role in the development of the overall Information/MES/IIoT solution architectures for our customers. Successful applicants will be involved in every stage of the solutions implementation process including consultancy, assessment, requirement gathering and specification, solution architecting and development, technical implementation, user training and commissioning.

What Would a Typical Day Look Like?
- Involvement in pre-sales support, develop overall solution architecture, requirements specification and system design, as well as construction and implementation.
- Perform gap analysis and determine best approach to address the gaps.
- Act as functional lead on a variety of projects
- Facilitate functional re-use in solution architecting.
- Building crucial relationships with key global partners within the manufacturing software scope of responsibility
- Participating in strategy determination with team leadership and global partners to promote the adoption of partner product suite in North America
- Being responsible for maintaining deep domain specific knowledge of Information/MES/IIoT solution architectures available in the manufacturing software space

What Qualifies You for this Opportunity?
- 7-10 years of experience in the manufacturing software arena, particularly using software that can be described as Information/MES/IIoT
- Experience working in an industrial manufacturing environment and with industrial controls
- Proven expertise in areas such as requirements specification, architecting solutions, systems analysis, and design.
- Certified with Inductive Automation’s Ignition Platform software; experience with Sepasoft and/or Cirrus Link Solutions integrated modules an asset.
- Demonstrable understanding of industrial automation PLC platforms, network design and implementation, OT/IT configurations, production and engineering processes.
- Advanced experience using industrial software packages provided by any or all the following vendors: Rockwell, Siemens, Aveva/Wonderware and GE.
- Experience with network architecture design, system virtualization, and associated design tools
- Experience using software and systems like MQTT, Azure DevOps, AWS, Node-Red, and Docker an asset.
- Development experience using Python, Java, JavaScript, and/or Microsoft .NET
- Experience with database software such as Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, and/or InfluxDB
- Familiar with application development methodologies, techniques and standards, configuration management, middleware, networking and communication, and hardware configuration
- Project management experience an asset.
