Program Overview – Seniors’ Community Services – Community Care
The incumbent of this position is accountable to the Senior Manager, Seniors Community Programs for the overall operations of the Meals on Wheels, Transportation and Snow Shovelling Programs. The supervisor’s performance will be considered synonymous with the program’s performance. Consequently, the supervisor’s job contributions can be defined in terms of the accomplishment of the program’s goals and the program’s operations within the unit and organizational policies and procedures.

WoodGreen’s Seniors Community Programs provide essential supports that help older adults and people with disabilities maintain their independence and remain safe in the community.

  • Meals on Wheels deliver nutritious meals in a variety of formats.
  • Transportation Services ensure accessible, reliable rides for seniors and adults with disabilities within the WoodGreen catchment area.
  • Snow Removal Program provides seasonal assistance to older adults and vulnerable residents who cannot manage this task independently.
The Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that all three programs operate smoothly, efficiently, and in alignment with client needs, while supporting the staff, students, and volunteers who deliver these services.

What You Will Do
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the Meals on Wheels, Transportation, and Snow Shoveling Programs.
  • Lead annual planning, monitoring, and evaluation of all three program areas to ensure they meet organizational objectives and community needs.
  • Provide direct supervision for staff, students, and volunteers.
  • Ensure the effective utilization of volunteers and students ensures a program of support and training for them.
  • Ensure the recruitment and hiring of qualified staff under established recruiting policies and procedures and the Collective Agreement.
  • Hold regular supervisory meetings with staff, identify training and development needs, opportunities, and recommend disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Consult with food providers, transportation partners, and contractors to ensure service quality, accurate billing, and timely resolution of issues.
  • Ensure safety, compliance, and quality standards are consistently maintained across all program areas.
  • Oversee the subsidy application process for the Meals on Wheels and Transportation Programs clients, in consultation with the Senior Manager.
  • Develop and implement a process for acquiring and responding to client input, including program consultation with program administrators and coordinators.
  • Manage and resolve all client complaints according to the Unit and agency-wide policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate program data and statistical information for Meals on Wheels, Transportation, and Snow Removal in compliance with organizational reporting requirements.
  • Ensure the planning and implementation of a staff development program.
  • Respond to community needs and ensure existing and new program development ideas will indeed meet these needs.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with other service providers and community agencies relevant to seniors’ nutrition, transportation, and seasonal supports.
  • Ensure the anti-racism objectives and community development principles of the organization are achieved within the program.
  • Participate in regular supervisory sessions with the Senior Manager.
  • Responsible for upgrading training and education as directed by WoodGreen Community Service to fulfill the responsibilities of the job.
  • Implement the Emergency Protocol for all three programs and bring forward issues to the Senior Manager in a timely manner.

What You Bring to the Team
  • Certificate in Nutrition, Business Operations, Logistics Management, Social Services or equivalent.
  • Valid full “G” driver’s license and a 3-year clean Driver’s Abstract are required.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of work experience in food services, transportation coordination, or community program operations.
  • Minimum of 2 years related experience in geriatric services, social work, or mental health.
  • Demonstrated experience working with high-risk seniors.
  • Experience managing staff in a unionized environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in assessing, coordinating, and evaluating service delivery for high/moderate risk seniors.
  • Experience managing seasonal or contract-based services such as a snow shoveling program.
  • Physically be able to push trollies with coolers weighted about 80 lbs.

What Will Set You Apart
  • Food Handler Certificate and/or Volunteer Management Certificate will be considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of food handling and safety standards.
  • Skills in logistics management, program coordination, and scheduling, including both transportation and food delivery operations.
  • Ability to work in a multi-tasked and fast-paced environment, balancing transportation, food, and seasonal service demands.
  • Good judgment and critical thinking skills in logistics, service disruptions, or emergency situations.
  • Excellent skills in customer service, particularly in handling client complaints.

BUS DRIVER (Part-time)

OVERVIEW

The bus driver is responsible for transporting groups of students from North Vancouver schools to and from Cheakamus Centre in Brackendale. We are seeking a driver who is committed to safety, customer service and working in an educational setting. The bus is owned and maintained by the North Vancouver School District and seats up to 24 passengers. This is a part-time shift position during the school year requiring flexibility around program booking times and dates. Shift times are typically 5am-9am at the start of the week (Mon or Tues) and 2pm-6pm at the end of the week (Thurs or Fri) for a total of 8 hrs. per week. Additional shifts may become available October and April-June.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

The Bus Driver is employed by Listel Canada and reports to the Program Manager of Cheakamus Centre

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Checking-in and confirming status of all registered students and maintaining a safe environment on the bus by enforcing rules of conduct and responding to emergencies if they arise
  • Adhering to all relevant traffic bylaws and restrictions
  • Constantly attentive to city and highway traffic and changing weather conditions to maintain a high level of safety for all passengers
  • Ensure that the vehicle is operating properly each day by conducting pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections
  • Basic daily maintenance and cleaning of the bus
  • Picking up and returning the bus to Cheakamus Centre at the end of each run
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Highly reliable and experienced driver who enjoys working with children and youth
  • A clean Class 4 Unrestricted Driver's License, Driver's Abstract and current RCMP background check are required
  • Mechanical knowledge of vehicles is an asset and familiarity with school bus vehicle checks
  • Occupational First Aid Level 1, with CPR or equivalent
  • Work effectively independently and in a collaborative team environment
  • Demonstrated success in problem solving and conflict resolution
  • Ability to communicate effectively with parents, students, teachers and other stake holders
  • Excellent time management skills

JOB TERM

Work shifts fall on weekdays from October to June. The specific shift schedule will be provided well in advance

COMPENSATION

Hourly wage: $27.50 per hour
