As a **Data Science Student** , you will contribute to our team by:
**Responsibilities**
- Gain proficiency in exploratory data analysis, perform it, and present insights.
- Prepare data sets for visualization and machine learning modeling.
- Train machine learning systems using data annotation and benchmarking techniques.
- Help your colleagues assess AI/ML model performance and propose paths for potential improvement.
- Prepare data visualizations using industry-leading tools to summarize results for stakeholders.
- Document your results - tell the story of the work, the successes, and the lessons-learned for posterity.
- Keep an open mind, in order to utilize your unique skills and your determination when other opportunities arise.
**This position has a twist.** Contingent on successful early work, the team member will have a chance to build their portfolio through a capstone project. For the final two months, a portion of their time will be focused on a design-focused initiative, of value to PCL, of their choosing. You'll be supported while you:
- Develop a proposal
- Engage with the right people to inform your work
- Build your prototype or visualization
- Assess and present the results
**Qualifications**
What you will bring to the role:
- Currently enrolled in a postsecondary program
- You should be an outstanding bachelor's or mathematics student in engineering, computing, or mathematical sciences. Alternatively, you could be pursuing an MSc in a quantitative field. If your field of study differs, apply: we'd like to hear why you'll be a good fit regardless.
- Analytical skills - ability to quickly analyze data to identify and visualize key insights - as evidenced by coursework, projects, or research requiring the analysis of large datasets.
- Coursework in statistics. Applied statistics and probability are the focus of the position: if you can converse about regression models, and clustering approaches, you'll be fine.
- Prior exposure to a statistical or scientific programming environment is helpful. If you don't have it, you'll become familiar while you're with us. We have a bias for open source tech, and work with the Python scientific stack, R, PowerBI, and various data pipeline tools.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills will help. You'll work with both experts in the field and business staff, so you'll find it important to be able to communicate appropriately with both as needed.

The successful candidate will be responsible for site investigations, evaluations of existing buildings, preparation of warranty reviews, and depreciation reports. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in building science and field investigations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Site Investigation and Evaluation: Conduct thorough site investigations and evaluations of existing buildings to assess their current condition.
• Warranty Reviews and Depreciation Reports: Prepare detailed warranty reviews and depreciation reports to provide accurate assessments of building components and systems.
• Building Condition Assessments: Perform detailed building condition assessments, including field investigation work such as leak investigations of all aspects of the building envelope, including roofs, walls, windows, and foundations.

Our Building Specialty Services group is seeking a Senior Leader to join and guide our team, providing excellence in business practices and technical leadership in the building science industry.

Your Key Responsibilities
- This role is one of technical and business leadership involved with many aspects of what our team does daily. This includes involvement in building envelope design, 3rd party design review, / building envelope commissioning / construction services for both rehabilitation and new construction projects.
- The successful candidate will be in a leadership position responsible for driving this service line forward from a business perspective within the Building Specialty Services Business Unit in Alberta.
- Defines scope of complex services to be provided and establishes the design criteria for the project
- Review design documents, shop drawings, and trade submittals prepared by third parties for conformance with good building practice with respect to water intrusion, air leakage, vapor diffusion, thermal performance and differential movement
- Manages preparation of contract drawings and specifications with a project team
- Undertake field review of both new construction and rehabilitation projects to confirm that the construction of the building envelope assemblies is proceeding per approved mock-ups and design document
- Prepare and review site visit reports and use this database to generate Action Lists of outstanding deficiencies and track their resolution
- Undertake field testing of selected elements of building envelope assemblies to confirm compliance with specified performance standards (primarily water infiltration and air leakage) and prepare reports outlining the results of these tests
- Investigates, advises, and solves unusual project problems by devising new approaches or applying existing criteria in innovative ways
- Interface with architects, general contractors and sub-trades
- Provides expert advice on design processes or construction methods
- Perform forensic analysis of building envelope failures
- Conduct presentations to competing interests including working with legal professionals, contractors and consultants
- Field work associated with the assessment of existing buildings and the preparation of building envelope assessment reports
- Lead and manage project teams ranging from one to five staff members. Focused on driving results on time and on budget.
- Project Management and technical lead on assigned projects. Conduct building science research and writing of technical papers and mentoring staff along the way.
- Be a visible leader in the industry by providing technical presentations and thought leadership within the larger building science community, internally at Stantec and externally.
- Review and write proposals for new work.
- Lead business development opportunities and help drive new business for the company with both internal and external clients
- Mentor and train entry level staff in both technical and non-technical skills.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of Bluebeam, CAD and/or Revit.
- Project Management skills necessary for concurrent multiple projects with budgets above $200,000.
- Practical knowledge of energy code, rain screen principles, air barriers and thermal performance
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment with a strong customer service commitment
- Position requires weekly travel regionally.
- Requires the ability to work on active construction sites.
- Must have a valid driver's license & a clean Motor Vehicle Record
- Registered Professional Engineer in Alberta P.Eng
Education and Experience
- Minimum 10 years of experience in assessing, detailing, testing and or constructing building envelope systems
- Strong understanding of advanced flashing, waterproofing, roofing, cladding, rain screens, air barriers and other related systems
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Science, with a background in Building Science
