As a Fitness Trainer at Spinco Studio, you will be involved in designing and implementing workout programs, conducting fitness assessments, and offering guidance on nutrition and lifestyle choices. PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
As a member of the Community Services Department, these positions prepare lesson plans, provide quality instruction, evaluation and complete administrative tasks for the assigned programs/classes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Represent the City of Belleville in a professional manner with appropriate actions and conduct by following all of the Staff Policies and Procedures set out by the Department.
- Responsible for the safety and supervision of the participants by following all rules and regulations set out by the Department and/or outside organizations.
- Must be knowledgeable of City Programs and have strong public relations skills.
- Responsible for providing instruction and leadership for your designated program.
- Responsible for on-going evaluations and feedback of the programs to the Recreation Coordinator.
- Responsible for the completion of attendance and any required paperwork to effectively administrate this program as per the Department Procedures.
- Assume the responsibility for assessing and responding in an emergency situation and completing the necessary reports.
- Provide the participants with excellent customer service including management of conflict through effective problem solving and communication skills.
- Ensure all program areas are properly supplied with equipment, paperwork, and any other supplies that may be required for programs.
- This position is responsible for keeping any required certifications current.
- Attend all training and staff meetings as scheduled.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma, at minimum
- Current Standard First Aid and C.P.R. certification
- Certified Group Fitness Instructor or Personal Training Certification by a recognized and approved Agency
- Excellent customer service skills and problem-solving skills
- Satisfactory Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
- High Five – Principles of Healthy Older Adult certification
- Additional Fitness certifications
- Post-secondary education in a related discipline
- Previous instructing experience in the assigned discipline

Position Overview
The Group Fitness Instructors are responsible to provide engaging and inclusive fitness classes.
· Developing and delivering engaging group fitness classes that are tailored to a wide variety of fitness levels. Please note: latitude will be provided to the position-holder to determine scheduling and focus of classes.
· Scheduling personal training sessions with patrons; developing and delivering fitness programs tailored to the client’s fitness needs and goals.
· Delivering exceptional customer service at all times while motivating patrons towards the achievementof their fitness goals.
Availability
This is a part-time position entitled to work up to 24 hours in a week. Shift may vary from weekdays, evenings and/or weekends. Weekends will be majority of shifts.
Qualifications
Education:
· At a minimum have a secondary school diploma and/or a post-secondary studies related to health, fitness and/or nutrition preferred.
· A recognizable Group Fitness certification. Experience:
· 6 months’ relevant experience Other Qualifications:
· Standard First Aid Certificate
· Must obtain a satisfactory Police Criminal Record Check

Key Responsibilities
- Teach a variety of classes, including, tabata, HIIT, , spin,Body Conditioning, etc.
- Arrive at class location 10 to 15 minutes ahead of scheduled start time to be available to interact with members, answer questions, inquire about their fitness progress, introduce and orient new participants
- Inquire if there are any first-timers in the group, and if so, assess their fitness level in as private a manner as possible
- Ensure all verbal instructions are clear and that the volume, tempo of music and overall atmosphere is conducive to hearing, teaching, learning and having fun
- Continually monitor participants to ensure all participants are using the correct form. Offer variations of the routine to accommodate all fitness level.
- Responsible for instructing classes within certain guidelines and ensuring equipment is safe for all members to use
- Dismantle all audio and visual equipment after use
- Encouraging members to try new group fitness classes is always a bonus!
- Minimum six (6) months of experience instructing group fitness classes
- Knowledge of safe exercise techniques, group exercise principles, basic physiology and body mechanics
- Strong leadership skills, with ability to motivate and influence people
- Professional, organized, efficient, results-focused and a selft-starter
- Ability to operate and troubleshoot audio equipment
- Group Fitness Certification by BCRPA, ACE, AFAA, CANFIT PRO, ACSM, or equivalent

About Us:
Fresh Start is a health retreat specializing in emotional wellness, physical health, quitting smoking and holistic cleansing programs. Our guests come from all over North America for 5-21 days to work on their health or health maintenance. You will have an opportunity to contribute to a life and health-changing experience and to be a part of an integrative and comprehensive holistic program that is the only program of this nature in Canada. You will work with all levels of fitness, from someone with limited mobility and who may need a modified chair class to an athlete who loves high-intensity classes. Mostof our guests have some minor to advanced mobility issues, yet there are some health-conscious high-fitness level guests, too. Your challenge would be to find a way to accommodate everyone and to create a fun and non-competitive atmosphere.
Position Summary:
Group Fitness Instruction twice weekly, plus private training for our retreat guests.
We run eight 21-Day programs per year on specificdates. The opportunity is available during program dates only.
This is not a regular F/T position.
Classes Week Days and Hours:
Group Fitness Classes: Monday and Saturday 11-12:00 p.m. (one of the Mondays 12-1 p.m.).General workouts with light weights. We have basic equipment (weights, mats, bands, straps, yoga blocks).
Private Classes/ Semi-Private Classes (2-4 guests): on demand - will discuss suitable times for both you and the program schedule.
Note: Private Class bookings are subject to offering top-notch group classes and are a bonus. We can only guarantee the group classes. More skills you have, more value you bring to guests, higher chances you'll get private training sessions. Guests' expectation is to work with a highly qualified professional.
Location and Facilities : Classes are held in a large multi-purpose room with a laminate floor. We have a small gym that is great for private workouts. Programs are run out of the beautiful Ocean Resort facility, located on the ocean side, so the exercise room faces the ocean.

Must-Haves:
- Fitness Instructor Certification
- Current professional liability
- Min 2 years of experience
- Must live within 30 minutes of the Resort (you'll need to come often for 1-hr. class at a time)
- Experience in both group and personal fitness training, indoors and outdoors
- Ability to work with diverse-level fitness and age groups
- Ability to work with people with various injuries (ex., bulging disks, hip replacement, etc.) and obesity
- Ability to create moderately-paced exercise classes to prevent overloading those with multiple health issues and meds
- Engaging, creative and inspirational style of workouts
- First Aid (current or is willing to acquire at own cost)
Would be An Asset:
- Additional skills, such as yin yoga, trauma-informed yoga, body rolling, etc.
Personal Qualities:
- Positive and personable, builds rapport naturally
- Energetic and fun, with a great sense of humour
- Well-organized, punctual and an excellent time manager
- Can drive in any weather
- You walk the talk - you aim to be healthy and fit
- Our staff is non-smoking
- Enjoys independent work (there isn't much interaction with the team; you will be primarily working directly with the clients)
- You will be the only instructor, so your reliability and ability to book your vacations and other personal events around our program dates are critical. For very occasional times you need to be away, you must provide a quality sub.
