As a key member of our hardware team, you will share the responsibility of designing, validating and testing ORBCOMM’s industrial IoT devices and sensors. The Hardware team is a multidisciplinary, multi-site team consisting of electrical design, layout, industrial engineering, and documentation that works closely with the embedded systems, product integrity, and software engineering teams.

What You’ll Do:
Baseband and RF design and verification:
- Design and development of satellite, cellular, BLE, LoRa industrial IoT products.
- Spectrum analysis, network analysis, system testing.
- Component selection and schematic capture
- PCB and schematic design reviews.
- Functional and parametric testing over industrial temperature range.
- Failure root cause analysis.
Antenna tuning and verification:
- Integration and co-design with mechanical and PCB design teams.
- Antenna matching, tuning, measurements, and pattern analysis.
System engineering:
- Propagation studies and field testing.
Full product life cycle support:
- Precompliance testing and product certification support.
- Customization of standard products for specific large projects.
- Supply chain engineering support.
- RMA support.
Who You Are:
You’re a strategic thinker with a knack for operational excellence, ready to tackle multiple priorities with agility and grace. If you have:
- 5+ years experience in a similar position.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Graduate degree preferred).
- Hardware bench skills (soldering, debug, test automation).

Our Engineering Department is looking for a new teammate, someone who is an experienced, high-energy hardware engineer with a solid understanding of electronics. Responsibilities:
- Troubleshooting of complex systems, engaging in advanced problem-solving with limited to no documentation available
- Develop new, improve existing and evaluate diagnostic and repair methods and test procedures suitable for a wide range of legacy and new electronic products
- Reverse-engineer medium to complex electronic boards, modules and systems with the goal of developing improved test capability

The Role:
As an Electronics Designer at Kron Technologies, you'll play a critical role in the design of our current and future high-speed cameras, leading the design, layout, and bring-up of high-speed, high-performance printed circuit boards (PCBs) for our high-speed cameras. You’ll work closely with hardware, FPGA, and mechanical teams to ensure electrical performance and manufacturability.
What You'll Do:
- Plan and evaluate PCB layer stackups for high-speed interfaces such as memory (DDR3–DDR5), PCIe, USB 3, HDMI, and LVDS interfaces, supporting data rates up to 12.5Gbps.
- Collaborate with the hardware and FPGA teams to select components to achieve desired functionality, and define CPU/FPGA pinouts optimized for signal integrity and routing efficiency.
- Define board size and layout to align with the mechanical design of the overall system.
- Place components strategically to ensure layout efficiency, manufacturability, and performance.
- Route PCB designs while meeting signal integrity and EMC requirements, maintaining impedance control, and achieving length matching where required.
- Create and maintain schematic symbols and footprints for use across multiple projects.
- Manage and update the company’s schematic and PCB libraries to support consistent, high-quality design standards.
- Write firmware for microcontrollers that handle various low-level functions such as power management, thermal management, and lens control.
- Perform board bring up, testing, and debugging.
What we’re looking for:
- A diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
- Experience with high-speed digital design and PCB layout best practices.
- Proficiency in PCB design tools such as Altium designer.
- Familiarity with high-speed interfaces and signal integrity considerations.
- Experience with embedded firmware, using C/C++.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to design.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines.
Nice to have:
- Experience with FPGAs and SOCs.
- Knowledge of thermal and power considerations in dense designs.
- Experience with DFM/DFT best practices.

As a full time employee, you will be compensated on a salary based on experience and skills, between $80,000 - $95,000 CAD per year. Requirements

- Strong fundamental knowledge of high-speed circuit and multi-layer PCB design.
- In depth understanding of all aspects of the hardware product development cycle including requirements, architecture, schematic capture, PCB layout, signal integrity, verification, and manufacturing.
- Background in FPGA designs, including serial interfaces, power/thermal design.
- Experience with high-speed devices and protocols including DDR4, PCIe Gen4, MIPI, 1/10/100 Gigabit Ethernet, USB-C, HDMI, and JESD204B.

- Experience using optical test sets, signal analyzers, and GHz+ oscilloscopes for analysis of eye diagrams, phase noise, and overall signal quality.
- Hands-on debugging experience involving scopes, VNAs, signal generators, electronic loads.
- Familiarity with ESD, EMI, and RF design considerations.
- Ability to use Verilog, RTL, or HLS an asset.
- Ability to clearly communicate design requirements, status and issues with customers.
