The Quality Assurance (QA) Inspector reports directly to the Quality Assurance Manager.

Key Performance Indicators / Duties & Responsibilities

  • Complete internal audits as required to maintain the Avmax Quality Assurance program.
  • Review and maintain supplier self-audits and maintain the Company's vendor/supplier list.
  • Complete customer self-audits and maintain customer files.
  • Follow up on internal audit findings.
  • Conduct investigations as required.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Certified Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) preferred.
  • Relevant education, experience, and knowledge of aviation regulations and quality control procedures.
  • A thorough understanding of the requirement outlined in the AS9100 standard preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Possesses strong fundamental aircraft knowledge.
  • Demonstrates ability to motivate employees.

Experience

  • 3 to 5 years of practical experience in an aviation environment, particularly in quality assurance or inspection roles, is essential.
  • Proficiency in conducting audits, including planning, execution, reporting, and follow-up.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs), particularly those related to airworthiness and maintenance, is crucial.
  • Familiar with the principles of Quality Management System (QMS) and how they are applied within an aerospace context, including document control, process control, and continuous improvement is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with other individuals throughout the organization.
  • Demonstrated capability and competency in field of expertise.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Quality Control Inspector will be performing first-off, in-process, and final inspections of Steelhaus products. The Quality Control Inspector will coordinate with other departments including assembly, manufacturing and shipping/receiving.


Position Details

Status: 3-month contract

Shift: Mon - Fri, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Location: Calgary, NE


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Protecting their own and others health and safety at or in the vicinity of the work site.
  • Cooperating with their employer or supervisor by following health and safety rules for the job.
  • Using all hazard controls and wearing personal protection equipment designated or provided by the employer or required by the OHS legislation.
  • Refraining from causing or participating in harassment and violence.
  • Reporting health and safety concerns and conditions to their employer or supervisor.
  • Participating in any training provided by the employer.
  • Cooperating with any person exercising a duty under the OHS legislation.
  • Communication with their colleagues, supervisors, and managers.
  • Prepping equipment prior to inspection.
  • Verifying dimensions of parts machined using micrometers, calipers, other precision measuring instruments.
  • Perform first article inspections on all product runs.
  • Perform final quality inspection and dimensional inspection, verification of marking of manufactured parts and components.
  • Verify MTR heat numbers as defined on manufacturing travelers.
  • Initiate Nonconformance reports (NCRs) for all parts that do not meet requirements.
  • Identify and segregate NCR parts.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the NCR Area as required, and ensure parts are identified.
  • Identify tools requiring calibration and perform calibration of measurement tools.
  • Maintain emails, perform photocopying and printing.
  • Responsible to identify needs for consumables.


Required Abilities, Knowledge, Experience

  • Demonstrate understanding of parts drawings and GD&T.
  • 2+ Years in a similar role.
  • 2+ Years experience in a machining or assembly shop environment.
  • Demonstrate experience using a variety of hand inspection tools.
  • Experience with specialized measuring instruments preferred, such as:
    • Surface Finish Gauge,
    • Wall Thickness Gauge.
  • CMM is preferred.
  • Able to demonstrate basic computer skills (MS Office).

The Quality Control Auditor reports to the Quality Control Lead.

The Quality Control Auditor ensures that quality assurance is in accordance with expectations set out in the Quality Manual, Quality Procedures and Work Instructions and is equal to the requirements in the customer order or customer contract or the ISO9001:2015 & AS9100:D Standards. The Quality Control Auditor provides leadership in quality issues.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Performs on Machine quality auditing for first off inspections.
  • CMM operation proficiency is mandatory.
  • CMM beginner programming experience is a must: Calypso
  • Master proficiency reading blueprints, mechanical drawings, GD&T specifications and measuring features & characteristics in physical components to verify & validate its conformance by using metrology instruments (durometers, bore/profile/high/roughness, angle/radius gauges, micrometers, dial indicators, Gage maker, mic track, optical-laser scanning probing arms, etc.).
  • Proficient in both measuring units systems: Imperial & International System of Units (SI).
  • Master proficiency measuring element by element API Tubing & Casing (T&C) and Rotary Shouldered Connections (RSC) threads.
  • Verifies & validates processes and product conformance via Inspection Receiving, First Offs, Final Inspection, Process & Dock audits, testing.
  • Identifies and records non-conformances and participates with the multidisciplinary team to identify Root Cause, Corrective & Preventive Actions.
