YMCA of Northern Alberta is recruiting up to one new Director to serve on the Association’s Board of Directors, representing Wood Buffalo Region, commencing in the first quarter of 2026.

Due to a recent board vacancy, this year we are seeking candidates that are involved in their local community and would welcome applications from individuals residing in the region of Wood Buffalo.
Your ability to commit time is an important aspect of being a Board Director. The Board meets 5 times/year (4:30 pm – 7:30 pm), with a preference to in-person attendance in Edmonton, and we have two Board committees (the Audit and Finance Committee and Governance and Nominating Committee) who each meet 4-5 times/year. From time to time we also have special task forces that are established that would require additional time commitment. This translates into 40-50 hours/year of meeting time. Additional time is also needed for reviewing Board and committee materials in advance of meetings, and for the annual and ad hoc tasks required by the committees.

(This is a volunteer position)
The Board of Directors plays a vital role in promoting our vision and increasing mental health and addiction awareness in our community.
The Board meets monthly except for March, July, August, and December. Committee Meetings are held January, April, October and Board Meetings are held February, May, June, September, November on the third Wednesday of the month and are scheduled to run from 6:00PM to 8:00PM with a light supper provided if in-person otherwise held via MS Teams. Occasionally, additional Board meetings are required and are usually held via MS Teams meetings. The Board also has one evening (dinner) Board meeting (tbd).
Board membership is a voluntary and, therefore, unpaid activity. Legitimate expenses (mileage, meals, child-care etc. are reimbursed). If a Board member requires it, transportation is provided to Board events.
Must live at a primary permanent address in District of Municipality Muskoka or District of Parry Sound.
