What You’ll Be Doing
- Work with and direct contractors to implement construction safety management systems and other safety requirements.
- Provide safety leadership for both new and existing construction projects, including structural steel, mechanical, and electrical equipment installation.
- Lead weekly contractor safety representatives’ meetings made up of trades working onsite.
- Conduct formal safety audits of activities related to construction and equipment installation.
- Review contractor JSA’s to confirm completeness and accuracy of work being performed.
- Lead, support, and participate in key safety initiatives.
- Manage multiple reports for local, regional, and regulatory agencies, as well as internal/global reporting.
- Calculate risks and challenge the status quo with deep analysis of situations.
- Develop and present PowerPoint presentations to communicate incident reports, trends, work rule changes, plant status, and more.
What You Bring
- Minimum of 5 years of experience leading safety on construction projects with multiple trades.
- Proven experience managing projects requiring critical thinking (kaizen), problem solving, data analysis, and verification.
- Applied understanding of key regulatory frameworks including CSA, OHSA, ANSI, and NFPA standards.
- NCSO designation (achieved or in progress) required.
- CRSP designation (achieved or in progress) strongly preferred.
- OSHA 30 Construction Industry Outreach Program, OSHA 510 Construction Industry Standards, or OSHA 500 Train the Trainer (U.S.) considered an asset.

SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Lead, Risk the primary responsibility of the Senior Healthcare Risk Management Specialist is to support subscribers with risk management and patient safety subject matter.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support subscriber experience and stewardship
- Support subscriber stewardship (e.g. attend meetings with subscribers, build safety capacity, provide risk/safety education, support the application/spread of best practices)
- Enhance subscriber experience by applying safety science methodologies (e.g. patient safety, quality improvement, behavioral insights, design/systems thinking, etc.) for processes, procedures, safety intelligence, education, and resource development
- Implement quantitative and qualitative methods to understand subscriber needs, system gaps, and incident investigation findings
- Respond to subscribers and support with respect to subscriber queries, tools, customized claims analysis, trends analysis, meeting preparations, and attendance.
Support safety investigation and system resilience
- Apply safety science to investigate major losses, and incidents
- Identify systemic areas of interest from major losses and build safety capacity with subscribers
- Identify and share learnings, and support safety collaborations (clinical, safety/risk and human factors networks, academic communities, etc.)
- Review and analyze healthcare legal claims data to support HIROC’s safety and risk initiatives
- Conduct focused reviews to provide subscribers (individually and collectively) and HIROC with actionable themes, trends, etc.
- Report potential new risk/safety themes and opportunities from claims analysis
General Safety and Risk Management Functions
- Contribute to the departments and team planning
- Participate in ongoing educational opportunities to remain current on your field of expertise (e.g. clinical, safety and risk management issues in the field of health care, human factors, and insurance)
- Act as a resource to other departments and HIROC staff, and provide mentorship as required.
- Respond to issues relating to risk management and patient safety matters (consulting with Claims, Insurance Operations, Senior Management, and Legal where required)
- Participate in or lead ad-hoc departmental and HIROC projects, initiatives, and committees
- Contribute to development and revision of risk management tools and services: based on extensive research of current legislation, professional and/or governing organizations, medical journals and internet risk management resources, claims data, and best practices
- Support the development/improvement of patient safety indicators and other analytics
- Other duties as required
Conduct research and academic activity
- Participate in the creation of new safety knowledge and contribute to academic activities (e.g. peer reviewed papers, posters, presentations, etc.)
- Participate in the supervision of students

**Position Overview:**
he Senior EHS Compliance Specialist is responsible for overseeing and ensuring compliance with various Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs including Occupational Health and Safety, Work Planning and Control, Emergency Preparedness and Response, Fire Protection, Chemical Handling and Storage, and Environmental Protection.
**Work You'll Do:**
Under little direction, pperforms the following activities as appropriate:
+ Leads high level cross functional EHS projects within the company. Informs management of progress with respect to individual projects.
+ Leads other EHS team members on projects as required.
+ Provides technical direction and instructions to employees as required.
+ Delegates, schedules and organizes work within EHS.
+ Coaches other EHS team members.
+ Ensures work is carried out according to safety and quality standards, and deadlines.
+ Assesses the impact of new or changing regulatory requirements.
+ Integrates new or changing regulatory requirements into regulatory program documentation, internal processes and procedures.
+ Prepares of regulatory submissions.
+ Assesses changes to manufacturing processes against established EHS requirements.

**Required Qualifications:**
+ Normally a university degree in a science, engineering or other relevant discipline.
+ Ideally, a minimum of 8 years' experience with nuclear regulatory requirements or working in a nuclear or other regulated business.
+ Experience with licensing of CNSC regulated nuclear facilities, management systems for safety, safety analysis, radiation protection, environmental protection, facility code compliance, security, training, or nuclear operations are assets.
+ Excellent time management skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks without losing focus on priorities.
+ Must have strong technical writing, presentation and oral communication skills.
+ Must have ability to influence and work with people at all levels and proven skills in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with others.
+ Must possess exceptional analytical skills and have a high level of attention to detail.
+ This position may require holiday coverage.
+ Includes working in a combination of office and industrial environments.

Job Responsibilities
- Implement the Aramark SAFE program
- Develop and/or modify safety policies and programs
- Analyze results and benchmark data and provide recommendations to leadership to improve safety performance

- Initial point of contact for any safety incident and with enforcement agencies (Ministry of Labour, Public Health etc.)

Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience in a role with Occupational Health and safety responsibilities
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, industry good practice
- Must be comfortable with frequent computer usage; good working knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications is required
- Strong organizational, leadership, time management and team influencing skills are essential for success in this role
- General understanding of Ontario food safety regulations and safe food handling procedures
- Previous experience working in remote camps, mining or similar industry would be a considerable asset
- Previous experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) would be an asset
Certifications:
- Valid JHSC certification - preferred
- Advanced Food Handler Certification ? preferred
- Ability to demonstrate achievement or complete any additional certifications that may be required prior to start
- CRSP, CRST or working towards another recognized professional designation would be an asset

The Opportunity: The Vice President, Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) holds overall responsibility for leading the safety strategy and program, social compliance, and corporate facilities services at Maple Leaf Foods. Our Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) goal is ambitious: zero occupational recordable injuries.As the VP, you will champion a workplace safety culture that encourages people to follow safety protocols, to use safety equipment, to identify hazards, and to speak up when they have any concerns. Maple Leaf Foods previously unveiled a new OHS framework centred around Caring our Way to Zero to reaffirm our ongoing commitment to our Team Members that their safety, health, and well-being are our number one priority. As the incoming VP, you are responsible for driving our Safety Promise and Zero Hero programs across the Maple Leaf Foods network of 20+ manufacturing facilities.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life: Provide Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Senior Leadership: Provide executive guidance for the organizations health and safety initiatives. You will ensure that OHS action plans are executed to not only satisfy but exceed our OHS objectives.
Oversee our OHS Policy Development: Direct the creation and application of policies and procedures that support a secure and healthy working environment. This includes the integration of comprehensive OHS training and educational programs across the network, including plant level OHS designates and senior OHS leadership teams.
Drive Compliance Initiatives: Ensure that all operations and processes adhere to relevant health and safety laws and regulations, maintaining a culture of accountability throughout the organization.
Direct our Corporate Facilities Operations: Foster an exceptional employee and visitor experience within our corporate facilities. Drive optimal performance in workplace services, maintenance, energy efficiency, and environmental impact in support of sustainability and employee experience objectives.
Implement Risk Management Programs: Identify potential workplace hazards and risks. Implement measures to mitigate risks, and manage proactive emergency response strategies.
Measure and Manage Performance Metrics: Install measurable safety targets across the organization by incorporating performance indicators to monitor and improve our safety outcomes.
Foster Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with a wide range of internal and external partners, including advisory committees, to continuously enhance our safety practices.
Nurture Team Leadership: Lead and nurture the Senior OHS team along with designated safety leaders across the network, while also overseeing Social Compliance and Head Office Facilities management. Consistently demonstrate and develop leaders to the standards of our Maple Leaf Leadership Values.
Incorporate Best Practices: Champion the OHS aspect of the Safety Promise, guiding the organization toward achieving industry-leading safety standards
Critical Interactions on the Job: Partner with operations leaders to overachieve OHS goals. You will work closely with plant leadership, Facilities, Sanitation, Food Safety Quality Assurance, and other key stakeholders within plants and corporate functions.
Collaborate with finance and HR for reporting and sustainability disclosures, due diligence, property insurance, return to work programs, and other initiatives.
Coordinate with key functional leaders (Animal Care, Operations, Center for Food Security) to strive for global leadership of our sustainability programs.
Support Sales & Marketing in building customer awareness and understanding of our safety commitments.
Collaborate with real estate, sustainability, and EHS partners to support day-to-day and long term facility planning initiatives.
Build trusted partnerships with key federal and provincial partners, and non-governmental agencies to influence OHS policies and best practices
Measures of Success: Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR):
Achieve and sustain a reduced TRIR through proactive safety measures.
Days Away, Restricted, or Transferred (DART):
Minimize lost workdays by ensuring swift and effective responses to workplace incidents.
Safety Audits:
Secure superior results through diligent oversight and continuous improvement of safety protocols.
Social Compliance Requirements:
Meet or exceed all socially driven compliance benchmarks consistently.
Training and Education:
Enhance organizational knowledge and participation in health and safety practices through comprehensive training initiatives.
