We are seeking a highly skilled Manager of Accounting and Tax to oversee our accounting operations and ensure compliance with tax regulations. The ideal candidate will lead the accounting team, manage tax planning and reporting processes, and drive efficiencies to support TAAGs financial goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage the daily operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable/receivable and general ledger.
  • Prepare accurate financial statements, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Maintain compliance with GAAP and internal policies.
  • Responsible for monthly and quarterly financial close processes.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation and filing of tax returns.
  • Lead tax planning initiatives to minimize liabilities and identify opportunities.
  • Keep updated with changes in tax laws and implement necessary adjustments to ensure compliance.
  • Train, mentor, and supervise accounting staff.
  • Set performance goals, conduct reviews, and foster professional growth within the team.
  • Develop and implement tax strategies and planning solutions for clients, including creating formalized tax planning tools for retirement.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with both new and existing clients.
  • Actively promote the firms services to support business development.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in accounting or a related field (CPA preferred).
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting and tax experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience working with Small/Medium Businesses.
  • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Sage Simply Accounting, QuickBooks, Tax prep and CaseWare) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and tax regulations.
  • Knowledge or exposure to ASPE/IFRS would be considered an asset.
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and sound decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to address client inquiries clearly and professionally.
  • Committed to delivering quality work while meeting tight deadlines.

We are seeking a dedicated and detailed oriented Tax Specialist to focus on managing client tax documentation and compliance under global tax regimes, including Qualified Intermediary (QI), Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), and Common Reporting Standard (CRS). This role will support the Senior Manager, U.S. Tax Operations, in ensuring all client documentation is compliant with regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of tax documentation processes and global tax regulations, with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Review and spot-check client tax documentation (such as W-8BEN, W-8BENE, W-8IMY, W-9, and self-certification forms) to ensure compliance with QI, FATCA, and CRS requirements.
    Monitor and maintain up-to-date client tax records, ensuring that all documentation is complete, accurate, and current.  
    Coordinate the solicitation, collection, and validation of U.S. tax forms, ensuring documentation is in line with all IRS/CRA regulations.
    Administer the process for updating expiring forms and treaty statements to ensure continuous compliance.
    Escalate incomplete or non-compliant documentation to the Senior Manager and collaborate on corrective actions.
    Assist in the preparation and submission of tax reports related to QI, FATCA, and CRS obligations.
    Participate in the annual client onboarding process by validating tax documentation and ensuring that all necessary information is captured in the system.
    Help coordinate responses to inquiries regarding tax documentation and reporting from internal stakeholders and clients.
    Stay updated on changes to tax laws and regulations impacting QI, FATCA, and CRS documentation and assist in integrating these changes into the organization’s processes.
    Respond to client inquiries about tax documentation, providing clear explanations and guidance on requirements under multiple tax regimes.
    Collaborate with the senior manager to organize and deliver internal training sessions on tax documentation procedures and compliance best practices.        
    Liaise with relevant parties on projects and provide specific knowledge of tax documentation requirements.
    Perform data validation and process review of current reports and develop enhancements where necessary.
    Ensure all findings or discrepancies in client documentation are escalated, documented, and addressed in a timely manner.
    Support the Tax team in tax package mailouts, slip amendment process, and answering client tax inquiries during peak periods of tax season.
    Complete various ad-hoc duties & projects within the Tax department.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in tax function with a focus on QI, FATCA, and CRS
  • Completion of a post-secondary program
  • Strong understanding of tax documentation, including US. Tax forms such as W-8BEN, W-8BEN-E, W-8IMY, W-9, and self-certification forms.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office products, primarily Excel and Access

About The Role:

We're seeking a Director, Tax to develop and lead our compliance roadmap. You'll drive the evolution of our global tax function, guiding a high-performing team through increasing complexity in corporate, indirect, and cross-border tax. Reporting directly to the VP of Finance, you'll bring deep expertise in both Canadian and US tax environments and play a critical role in shaping our compliance infrastructure, partner relationships, and internal capabilities.

What You'll Do:
  • Managing Fullscript's global tax team, ensuring compliance across all tax functions including corporate tax, indirect taxes, US SALT, payroll tax, and withholding tax.
  • Building a world-class tax team: recruiting, developing, and retaining top-tier talent to elevate the impact and capabilities of the tax function.
  • Establishing and reporting on team KPIs, clearly and effectively communicating team performance and progress to finance and executive stakeholders.
  • Liaising with key external consultants, utilizing them efficiently and effectively.
  • Serving as a leader, mentor, or coach to one or more employees, which will include providing honest and timely performance feedback
  • Managing Fullscript's compliance calendar, including timing and coordination of all required filings and payments.
  • Leading all tax compliance-related matters, including but not limited to:
  • Annual filing requirements for incentive equity (e.g., IRS Form 3921),
  • Practitioner payments and reporting (e.g., 1099-K and T4A),
  • Transfer pricing documentation and related compliance (e.g., Form 1042),
  • Employee cross-border compliance (e.g., payroll and residency implications for employees working across US/Canada borders).
  • Overseeing the transfer pricing process and other international reporting requirements
  • Develop and execute Fullscript's tax team roadmap in partnership with the VP, Finance, including strategic planning of compliance initiatives, jurisdictional filing strategies, project implementation, and cross-functional coordination across Finance, Legal, Engineering, Product, and Systems.
  • Developing strategies to optimize Fullscript's global cash tax payable, including leveraging key government incentive programs such as Scientific Research & Experimental Development (SR&ED) and Qualified Research Expenditures (QREs).
  • Managing relationships with tax authorities and service providers
  • Providing FP&A team with tax/government grant inputs for reporting, budgeting and forecasting purposes
  • Reviewing and making recommendations to current practices
  • Reviewing current and upcoming changes in tax laws and their implications for the company
What You Bring:
  • Experience as a Director or Senior Manager of Tax or Indirect tax team within a fast-paced environment
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian and US tax laws
  • Working knowledge of GST/HST and US international taxes.
  • Practical exposure to corporate structuring and transfer pricing decision-making processes
  • Experience with Avalara Avatax, Returns & CertCapture, or similar software
  • Prior experience within an online marketplace/eCommerce environment
  • Project management experience
  • Demonstrated success building and improving processes
  • Experience working with integrations and system configurations
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Leadership experience and ability to coach & mentor other team members
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to explain highly complex subject matter in simple terms.
