Job DescriptionTecho-Bloc R&D Team is on the hunt for a Automation & Controls Specialist — Looking for a highly motivated team member with strong work ethic and a go-getter attitude to support our team’s automation development. In this role, you'll tackle challenges head-on by programming, configuring, and integrating new automation systems while ensuring they run smoothly. You'll also be responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining all automation equipment, ensure optimisations and preventative maintenance to peak efficiency.
This position is based in Saint-Hubert , with occasional travel to our other sites in the U.S. and Canada.
Your Role:
You’ll work closely with factory teams across all Techo-Bloc sites (Canada & USA) , providing critical support in diagnosing and resolving complex electrical and automation issues. Whether it's guiding the maintenance crew during after-hours calls or jumping in to troubleshoot a downed system, you’ll be essential in minimizing downtime and ensuring optimal performance.

- Troubleshoot existing automation systems including PLCs, HMIs, Industrial Robots, Variable Frequency Drives, Fieldbus Networks & Industrial Communication Networks.

- Handle electrical diagnostics
- Partner with the maintenance team to identify, diagnose, and resolve machine issues effectively.
- Identify potential safety risks and implement measures to ensure a secure work environment.
- Analysis of industrial safety systems, programming and configuration.

- Provide training to the production team on automation equipment operations methods.

- Advanced PC skills, ability to configure and troubleshoot PC applications, networking and hardware.
- PC Programming skills (C, C++, C#, Visual Basic) is a plus.
- Ability to execute basic low-voltage electrical work.

A Day in the life!
Your day begins at 8 a.m., and you are ready to dive into the design and development of a new automation project. But before you get too far, you are interrupted by engineers from another project who need your expertise.
After sharing your knowledge, you return to your initial project… until you receive a call from the maintenance department. One of our factories is down due to a technical issue. Without hesitation, you head to the factory floor and work closely with the maintenance team to quickly diagnose and resolve the problem.
Back at your workstation, you refocus on your main project. You carefully select the automation components to use. You quickly find all the necessary documentation online and familiarize yourself with it. After validating everything, you update the electrical schematics, correct inconsistencies, eliminate potential safety risks, and communicate with your colleagues to ensure the project timeline is respected and any issues are addressed promptly.
With the schematics and components in hand, you program the PLC, configure the drives, and integrate the safety devices. Although the physical machine is still under construction, you visualize its operation, refine the program, and ensure that all elements will integrate perfectly once assembly is complete.
Throughout the day, you juggle strategic planning, technical problem-solving, and interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure the project’s success!

What will you do as an Manufacturing Systems Designer II? - Develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor productivity and process efficiency.
- Participate in design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA) reviews. Develop and document manufacturing, serviceability, and reliability requirements.

What will you do as an Manufacturing Systems Designer II? The Manufacturing Systems Designer is a key contributor to the Manufacturing Engineering team's mission, serving as the critical link between R&D and manufacturing. - Provide support for EMS supplier issues, including quality control, test jig maintenance and troubleshooting, and component obsolescence management (selection and verification of alternative components).
- Lead production transfers between EMS providers

- Hands on soldering rework for SMT and Through-Hole PCB.
- Modify PCB and layout design using Altium and CADStar to resolve production issues.

- Design, build and maintain PCBA test equipment.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams for new product introduction projects. Lead production transfer activities, including the creation of work instructions and bills of materials, design manufacturing processes and equipment, coordinate validation builds, and conduct manufacturing training.
- Verify new component designs, ensuring compliance with supplier capabilities. Qualify new suppliers and conduct FAA & PPAP processes.
- Design, set up, and maintain production lines using LEAN principles.
- Execute engineering change requests, engineering change orders, and related sustaining engineering and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide manufacturing support, including material review board activities, manufacturing process improvement, component End-of-Life support, RMA support and production escalations. Act as the liaison between Manufacturing and R&D to escalate issues as needed.
- Participate in design for manufacturing and assembly reviews. Conduct design improvements and cost reduction activities, leveraging knowledge of materials, fabrication processes, tooling, and process capabilities.
- Adhere to LMI Employee Policy Manual.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Industrial Engineering.
- Experience in PCBA development with solid understanding of board layout, PCB/PCBA fabrication, assembly and test processes and limitations.

Support the transformation of maintenance operations by integrating planning responsibilities with the development and coordination of the new Control & Performance Center (Centre de Contrôle OM). Ensure proactive, data-driven maintenance execution while contributing to the digitalization and centralization of operational visibility.
