Job Description

As a Senior Simulation Developer at Vention, you’ll be a key contributor to the evolution of our browser-based simulation engine. Working as part of an agile team, you’ll help design and implement new 3D simulation features and workflows that empower users to autonomously design, validate, and visualize their machines. Your work will have a high impact on the platform’s capabilities and how we demonstrate our technology to customers.

We’re seeking someone passionate about solving complex technical challenges in a collaborative, fast-paced startup environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain robust software applications, ensuring high performance and scalability.
  • Foster a test automation culture by elevating the standards in unit and integration tests practice following the test pyramid guidelines.
  • Support and mentor junior members of the team in all aspects of agile software development.
  • Apply software design patterns and SOLID principles to create clean, maintainable, and reusable code.
  • Work with TypeScript, with additional exposure to Python and C++ where needed.
  • Develop and optimize applications using ReactJS for frontend development.
  • Analyze and refactor legacy code, improving maintainability and performance.

Qualifications

  • Experience with game engines, physics-based simulation, or 3D graphics rendering.
  • Experience in modernizing legacy codebases while maintaining system integrity.

  • Familiarity with linear algebra and mathematical concepts relevant to physics and simulation.

  • Knowledge of ROS (Robot Operating System) or other robotics software and its integration into software applications.

As a team lead, you will lead the design and implementation of new 3D simulation features and workflows that empower users to autonomously design, validate, and visualize their machines. Job Description

The Simulation Technologist plays a key role in supporting hands-on, experiential learning across Michener’s health profession programs. Reporting to the Centre for the Enrichment of Teaching and Learning (CETL), you’ll help prepare simulation spaces, operate and maintain equipment, and ensure simulation sessions run smoothly.

You’ll work with a variety of simulation modalities, including high- and low-fidelity mannequins, task trainers, audiovisual systems, and standardized patients. This role is ideal for someone with experience in healthcare simulation or clinical education who enjoys problem-solving, teamwork, and learner support in dynamic settings.

Responsibilities: 

  • Set up and operate simulation equipment, including mannequins, task trainers, AV systems, and simulation control software.
  • Assist instructors and participants with simulation setup, and operations.
  • Support standardized patient sessions by preparing space, materials, and logistics.
  • Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and updates of simulation equipment.
  • Track simulation equipment and consumables using institutional digital systems.
  • Coordinate with IM, AV, and Facilities teams to ensure simulation technologies are properly integrated and supported.
  • Use internal ticketing systems to log and manage simulation-related technical support requests.
  • Provide basic training and technical orientation to faculty, staff, and student assistants.
  • Contribute to lab documentation, checklists, and safety procedures.
  • Uphold safety protocols, infection prevention practices, and operational standards in simulation spaces.
  • Participate in tours, demonstrations, and simulation-related events or initiatives.
Qualifications

  • Education in a health-related or technical field, such as medical laboratory science, nursing, respiratory therapy, paramedicine, or health sciences. This may include a diploma, certificate, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience supporting simulation-based education, skills labs, or clinical training environments (typically 1–3 years).
  • Demonstrated experience with simulation equipment and platforms (e.g., Laerdal, Gaumard, CAE), including setup, operation, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with simulation session flow, working with faculty or facilitators to support live or recorded sessions.
  • Comfort using digital systems for inventory, scheduling, and session documentation.
  • Asset: CHSOS certification or willingness to pursue after hire.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and in team-based environments.
  • Physical ability to lift and move equipment (up to 50 lbs).

Position Summary

Faculty in the School of Health and Wellness are responsible for providing instruction to learners; evaluating learner progress, designing and developing curriculum and instructional materials, and supporting learners in meeting the learning outcomes of their courses and programs.

The Simulation Educator plays a key role in supporting experiential learning within the Practical Nurse Program by facilitating high-quality, realistic clinical simulations. Working collaboratively with faculty and simulation lab staff, this position is responsible for facilitating simulation-based learning experiences that enhance students clinical judgment, critical thinking, and practical nursing skills. The Simulation Educator will guide learners through scenario-based activities using multiple simulation modalities including task trainers, high fidelity mannequins, virtual reality and screen-based simulations. Responsibilities include scenario preparation, pre-briefing, facilitation, debriefing, and maintaining a psychologically safe learning environment.

Description du poste

En tant que développeur·se principal·e en simulation chez Vention, vous jouerez un rôle clé dans l’évolution de notre moteur de simulation accessible depuis un navigateur web. En travaillant au sein d’une équipe agile, vous contribuerez à la conception et à la mise en œuvre de nouvelles fonctionnalités et de flux de travail 3D permettant aux utilisateurs de concevoir, valider et visualiser leurs machines de manière autonome.
Votre travail aura un impact significatif sur les capacités de notre plateforme et la façon dont nous démontrons notre technologie à nos clients.

Nous recherchons une personne passionnée par la résolution de défis techniques complexes, dans un environnement de type startup, collaboratif et dynamique.

Responsabilités principales

  • Concevoir, développer et maintenir des applications logicielles robustes, performantes et évolutives.

  • Encadrer et soutenir les membres juniors de l’équipe dans tous les aspects du développement agile.

  • Appliquer les patrons de conception (design patterns) et les principes SOLID pour écrire un code clair, maintenable et réutilisable.

  • Travailler principalement avec TypeScript , avec exposition à Python et C++ au besoin.

  • Développer et optimiser des interfaces avec ReactJS pour le développement frontend.

  • Analyser et refactoriser du code existant pour en améliorer la performance et la maintenabilité.

  • Collaborer avec des équipes multidisciplinaires pour développer des applications basées sur la simulation et la physique.

  • Utiliser des moteurs physiques (physics engines) et des moteurs de rendu (renderers) au besoin.

  • Appliquer l’algèbre linéaire et d'autres techniques mathématiques dans le cadre du développement.

Qualifications

Profil recherché

  • Baccalauréat ou maîtrise en génie logiciel, informatique ou dans un domaine connexe.

  • Plus de 5 ans d’expérience en développement logiciel.

  • Excellentes aptitudes en résolution de problèmes et forte capacité d’analyse.

  • Expérience avec les moteurs de jeux, la simulation basée sur la physique ou le rendu 3D.

  • Expérience dans la modernisation de bases de code existantes, tout en assurant l’intégrité du système.

  • Bonne connaissance de l’algèbre linéaire et des concepts mathématiques appliqués à la simulation physique.

Atouts

  • Connaissance de ROS (Robot Operating System) ou d’autres logiciels robotiques et de leur intégration dans des applications logicielles.

  • Expérience avec les systèmes embarqués ou les environnements de calcul en temps réel.

Le candidat slectionn participera activement la modlisation des convertisseurs de puissance et les circuits de systmes de puissance, leur contrle, et leur simulation en temps rel en CPU et FPGA. Il contribuera la maintenance et au dveloppement de la librairie MMC / VSC, HVDC and FACTs dans l'environnement MATLAB / Simulink et Hypersim.

Vous aurez lopportunit de mettre en pratique votre expertise en matire de conversion de puissance et en systmes de puissance en faisant de la simulation ainsi que de la programmation logicielle. Vous aurez effectuer des tches de conception, de modlisation, de simulation de circuits et des rseaux personnaliss afin damliorer les produits OPAL-RT MMC / HVDC et daccomplir le cahier de charges des diffrents projets client.

Principales responsabilits:

  • Participer toutes les phases de conception, de dveloppement, de test, de packaging et de documentation des nouvelles fonctionnalits des bibliothques OPAL-RT MMC / HVDC (destines aux environnements CPU et FPGA), en travaillant principalement dansSimulink, Sim PowerSystems, Xilinx Blockset, RT-LAB et Hypersim.
  • Estimer, excuter et valider des tches de conception, de modlisation et de simulation de convertisseurs de de puissance et des circuits de systmes de puissance.
  • Participer dans des projets client pour faire la modlisation des topologies de convertisseur et pour dvelopper les interfaces entre le contrleur et le convertisseur simul dans les outils OPAL-RT.
  • Rechercher des options de conception innovantes pour le dveloppement de produits, rdiger des articles techniques pour des confrences et des revues.
  • Collaborer avec d'autres membres de l'quipe pour fournir des solutions compltes et fonctionnelles.

Exigences:

  • Scolarit:une Matrise ou un Doctorat en gnie lectrique.
  • Exprience:Matrise ou Doctorat dans llectronique de puissance. 3 ans et plus dexprience en modlisation, simulation et/ou cntrole de convertisseurs de puissance. Exprience en simulation transitoire EMT.
  • Connaissances requises:modlisation et simulation de convertisseurs d'lectronique de puissance et leur contrle, connaissances des rseaux lectriques, simulation transitoire EMT, utilisation des FPGA. Matlab/Simulink
  • Connaissances linguistiques:Franais obligatoire. Une bonne connaissance de l'anglais est ncessaire pour la lecture d'ouvrages spcialiss/scientifiques non disponibles en franais et pour l'utilisation de logiciels spcialiss qui n'existent qu'en anglais

Achievements and stimulating challenges:

Under the supervision of the Team Leader, the Electrical Modeling and Simulation Analyst will work in an agile environment. The successful candidate will actively participate in the modeling, control, and real-time simulation of power converters and power system circuitusing CPUs and FPGAs. You will contribute to the maintenance and development of the MMC/VSC, HVDC, and FACTs libraries in the MATLAB/Simulink and Hypersim environments.

You will have the opportunity to apply your power conversion and power systemexpertise through simulation and software programming. You will be required to perform custom circuit design, modeling, and network simulation tasks to improve OPAL-RT MMC/HVDC products and meet the specifications of various client projects.

Main Duties:

  • Take part in all phases of design, development, testing, packaging, and documentation of new features/solver of OPAL-RT MMC/HVDC libraries (targeted for CPU and FPGA environments),working mainly in Simulink, SimPowerSystems, Xilinx Blockset, RTLAB, and Hypersim.
  • Estimate, execute, and validate tasks to design, model, and simulate customized power converters and power systems circuits.
  • Participate in client projects, modeling power converter topologies and developing the interface between the controller and the converter simulator.
  • Research innovative design options for the product development. To write technical papers for conferences and journal.
  • Collaborate with other team members to deliver complete and functional solutions;

Requirements:

  • Education:Masters degree or Ph.D in electrical engineering.
  • Experience:Masters or Ph.D: 3 years or more of experience in the fields of control / command and / or modeling of power electronics systems and EMT simulations.
  • Required knowledge:Modelling and simulation of power electronics converters and their control, knowledge of power systems and EMT simulation, FPGA programming. Matlab/simulink.
  • Language abilities: French required. Good English skills are required for reading specialized/scientific books not available in French and the use of specialized software that exists only in English.
  • Required skills:Autonomy, versatility, curiosity, organization, good interpersonal communication, analytical skills and adaptability.

Significant assets:

  • Experience with various tools like: Matlab/Simulink, PSCAD, EMTP, RT-Lab, HYPERSIM
