Reporting to the Support Care Team Lead, the Support Care Worker will assist in the delivery of personalized recovery programs, offer emotional support, and help clients engage with the community and treatment processes. This position is ideal for empathetic, resilient individuals passionate about making a tangible difference in the lives of those recovering from addiction and those willing to help wherever is needed around the Recovery Community.
Role-specific Accountabilities
- Provide ongoing support, encouragement, and care to clients, assisting them in daily activities and supporting their recovery goals.
- Encourage and assist clients in participating in various program activities, including therapy sessions, group meetings, work-as-therapy, and recreational activities.
- Facilitate a range of group and individual activities which are responsive to the recovery needs of clients and the community.
- Support the delivery of the Therapeutic Community program.
- Monitor the well-being of clients and report any concerns or progress to the Support Care Team Lead, contributing to the adjustment of recovery plans and risk management plans as needed.
- Assist in managing crisis situations under the guidance of clinical staff, ensuring the safety and security of all clients and staff.
- Foster a positive, supportive community environment among clients, encouraging mutual respect, understanding, and support.
- Perform administrative tasks as needed, including but not limited to, documenting client progress, attending team meetings, and maintaining client records.
- Provide clients with information and guidance on healthy lifestyles, coping strategies, and life skills, contributing to their holistic recovery process.
- Work collaboratively with the clients and their families on reunification and relationship building.
- Shifts are available 24/7/365.
Qualifications
- Degree or certification in psychology, social work, nursing, or related field preferred.
- Experience in a caregiving role, preferably within mental health, addiction recovery, or a related healthcare setting.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive situations with compassion and confidentiality.
- CPR/First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain.
- Successfully complete and pass a Vulnerable Persons Criminal Record Check prior to initiating employment and annually thereafter.

Summary of Position:

Routine/Responsibilities

- Supervision of children and youth both within a home setting and community setting;
- Assisting children with schooling, recreation, and structured programming as outlined by the support team;
- Ensure the home is maintained in a clean and tidy state and complete safety checks while on shift;
- Follow meal plans and prepare as required by following the Canadians Indigenous Food Guide and Menu Plan;
- Maintain structure, consistency, and effective follow-up on house rules, routines, and appropriate therapeutic interventions as required;
- Professional report writing and documentation of behavior, daily activities, medical, etc;
- Engaging children in a healthy lifestyle through physical activities, as well as indoor activities such as board games, puzzles, etc;

- Ensure all individual program development that is client specific is promoted, utilized, encouraged, and documented;

Required Experience and Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in a Human Services field (Child and Youth Care, Early Childhood Education, Social Work, Psychology) would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities:
The Gladue Aftercare Program Worker will ensure all aspects of the Gladue Aftercare program are designed, planned, coordinated, delivered, maintained, and evaluated. In addition, will practice and role model cultural competency and cultural safety using a trauma-informed wholistic approach within the broader community.
The Gladue Aftercare Worker will:
· Conduct initial intake assessments to determine the types of supports required.
· Provide individuals with one-to-one and participant-based support services.
· Work in collaboration with justice system officials, Native Inmate Liaison Officers, Aboriginal Liaison Officers and Parole and Probation Officers to support the mental health and cultural needs of service users.
· Support service users in following through with the Gladue Report recommendations and/or court healing plan.
· Wherever possible, visit Indigenous inmates and run programming in detention facilities to build relationships and plan for their release.
· Offer land-based activities and facilitate sharing and healing circles that include teachings.
· Provide awareness and ensure program access through a variety of outreach efforts and promotional activities within the community.
· Develop and maintain professional relationships with officials throughout social service agencies and the justice system.
· Work in collaboration with NFC programs to provide wrap-around services
· Work in collaboration with other community agencies to find housing, employment, and other necessary supports.
· Participate on external related committees, workshops and/or conferences as directed and approved by the Program Manager
Qualifications:
· Minimum of 2 years post-secondary education in Indigenous studies, justice, legal studies, child and youth work, social work, or related field
· Minimum three (3) years of related work experience working with youth (A combination of education and experience will be considered)
· Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with emphasis on family violence, the impacts of trauma, Indigenous youth engagement.
· High proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
· Ability to work within the established policies and procedures of the NFC organization with the ability to work under pressure, prioritize work and meet tight deadlines.

FULL-TIME CHILD/YOUTH CARE WORKER – Edmonton, AB
Unlimited Potential Community Services (UP) is a non-profit charitable society that has been providing quality support and treatment since 1987. Program overview: At UP we provide ongoing group care treatment services and educational programs to children and youth with emotional, behavioral, and/or psychiatric difficulties (including FASD and mental health concerns). Our clients, who range from 12-17 years of age, live in a group home, therapeutic setting. We are looking for an individual who has a passion for working with these vulnerable children/youth, becoming their role model and teaching them life skills through various activities.
Position overview: This position ensures that the therapeutic and social environment is safe and secure so that individual service plans are developed, followed and meet the individual needs of the youth and their families. As a primary care provider, the position is relied on to continuously evaluate individual service plans, monitor and record behaviors, oversee and arrange for daily activities and provide input to the service team based on observations and direct interaction with the children/youth.
The ideal candidate will possess:
· Passion for working with children, youth and families;
· Good understanding of health issues affecting youth and adults, such as FASD, drug and alcohol addictions, intergenerational trauma, mental health, suicide and other mental and behavioural challenges;
· Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture, customs and beliefs;
· Understanding of current and emerging issues of importance to Indigenous people and communities;
· Good understanding of cultural differences and how they impact treatment approaches for children and youth;
· Good verbal and written communication skills with proven organizational and documentation skills;
· Able to work well in a team environment with the ability to handle stressful situations in a non-confrontational, problem solving manner is required.
Qualifications/Experience: Must have a diploma/degree in Child Youth Care, Social Work (if education is in Social Work, must be registered Social Worker with the Alberta College of Social Workers) education or related field. Previous experience working with children, youth and families would be a definite asset.
Other requirements: A current, clear Police Information Check (vulnerable sector included) and Child Intervention Record Check, both dated within the last 6 months. A valid AB driver's licence (minimum class 5) and current driver's abstract (no more than 8 demerits). Must be willing to work shifts, sometimes alone and weekends.
Salary & Benefits: Salary Range with relevant education is $54, $7,029.00 annually (salary commensurate with education and experience). 3-weeks' vacation accrual to start with an additional week added after 2 years. We provide full-time employees with a 100% employer paid health benefits package (which includes vision, dental and prescription drug coverage, massage therapy, etc.) and a 100% employer paid RRSP equaling 3% of annual salary. We also offer free courses and workshops in-house for all of our employees.
