PetSmart s Store Leader has leadership oversight of the safety of people and pets, pet parent experience, operational execution, financial outcomes, and all human resource functions within all areas of the store. This role is expected to provide exemplary leadership for the store by driving the company culture and strategies, achieving targeted results, championing exceptional pet parent service and efficient execution of the store s daily business while upholding the company s vision, mission, values, and strategy within the store.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following and may vary depending on store characteristics and needs:
People Leadership:
- Responsible for employment decisions such as recruiting, interviewing, hiring, coaching, and terminating.
- Builds an open-door culture in the store by engaging and listening to associates. Responsible for leveraging the Voice of Associate tool to listen to and respond to associate feedback.
- Accountable for creating and posting the schedule for the entire store after receiving input from Experience and Process Leader.
- Facilitates the associate experience and supports associate development. This includes but is not limited to associate reviews, recognition, team activities, labor management, training, onboarding, mentoring and succession planning.
- Delegates effectively and empowers others to succeed; challenges others to reach their full potential and encourages them to retain ownership for their results.
- Cascades information to associates and adjusts team priorities to meet goals and commitments.
- Ensures continued alignment and responds effectively to a changing environment.
- Address and administer associate complaints and grievances.
- Recognizes and celebrates associates driving overall associate engagement.
- Accountable to ensuring all associate reviews are delivered on time.
- Leads the associate and pet parent experience at all levels and ensures pets in our care are safe and healthy.
- Accountable for the pet parent experience and outcomes conducted over the telephone, in person or online, and responding to general and escalated pet parent concerns.
- Builds a store environment that is focused on consistently delivering an exceptional, positive in-store pet parent and associate experience.
- Evaluates operations and seeks opportunities to continuously improve processes and services.
- Collaborates and partners with the Store Leadership team to ensure efficient and effective outcomes of in-store and community events including partnering with local adoption groups.
- Maintains store standards and leads a culture of empowerment by ensuring compliance with our policies and procedures (P&Ps) and code of ethics for themselves and their team.
- Responsible for conducting monthly Core and Services Walks to validate proper execution of policies and procedures.
- Prioritizes and ensures a safe environment for our associates, pets, and pet parents.
- Ensures compliance with all inventory management tools to guarantee appropriate levels of in-stock are available to all pet parents.
- Communicates business and financial objectives to other leaders within the store.
- Responsible for reviewing in-store cameras to assess safety practices, associate behaviors and assess risk. Follow up with associates and leaders with coaching and accountability as appropriate.
- Responsible for taking immediate action and reports when a sick/injured pet is identified in the store; transport to the vet as needed.
- Shared responsibility with store opening and closing procedures to ensure we uphold our brand promise.
- Deliver corporate strategy and profitability goals by executing the direction set leadership.
- Responsible for analyzing, root cause and responding to a variety of reporting in all areas of the store. Communicates business results to leaders and associates; creating improvement plans where needed
- Identifies and drives opportunities to grow the business, recognizes business successes and holds associates accountable in achieving store P&L expectations such as sales and shrink targets.
- Manages expenses such as labor and supplies and any other relevant store metrics.
- Leverages home office partners and resources to submit and follow up on store related work orders and purchase card allocation.
- Creates and posts schedules for the entire store.
- Accountable for processing payroll weekly and managing labor within a budget.
- Executes daily, weekly, and monthly reporting and paperwork as required by the Company.
- Accountable to run store related errands to support store needs.
- 4-6 years of retail leadership or experience in a customer-focused environment.
- Full time availability required, flexibility in schedule, able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Typically oversees the Experience Leader and Process Leader, up to six lead associates and ten to seventy non-leader associates. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with PetSmart s policies and procedures.
- Associate required to stand, walk, climb a ladder, and use hands to handle, feel, hold, write, etc. The associate frequently is required to reach with hands and arms: stoop, kneel, crouch, talk and hear. Position Opening:
Our retail team is growing and we are looking for a new Store Manager to join our organization.
The Store Manager:
- Is responsible for all aspects of retail operations, including customer satisfaction, sales, budgets, and overall financial performance of the store including team member development and engagement.
- Executes our business strategy and leads team members to meet operational goals.
- Recruits, schedules, and trains team members to ensure a positive and productive working culture, and effectively supervises and communicates with them to ensure engagement, safety, and superior customer service.
- Develop positive relationships with customers and the local community and promote the organization by participating in local events.

Qualifications:
- An interest in regenerative farming practices and a passion for food is required.
- Functional knowledge of retail or food merchandising, operations, and retail management practices and procedures.
- Previous management and people leadership and motivation experience in food retail is required.
- A strong understanding of the meat industry is preferred.
- Experience recruiting, selecting, assessing, coaching, counseling, and developing team members in a retail environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional customer service skills with a talent for building customer loyalty.
- Strong organizational abilities – able to manage multiple priorities.
- Able to work productively and professionally in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with budgeting, controlling costs, driving sales, and business financials.
- Physical ability to perform tasks that may require prolonged standing, sitting, movement, and lifting bulky and/or heavy merchandise.
- Experience gathering, interpreting, and presenting data.
- Thorough understanding of health and food safety legislation, policies, and practices. Ministry of Labour Supervisor Health & Safety Awareness Certificate is preferred.
- Valid Food Handler’s and First Aid Certifications are assets.
- Must have flexible availability.

Job Overview
We are in search of a Store Manager ready to contribute our continuous expansion across the United States. This person will be responsible for store KPIs and team management. What You Will Achieve
- Manage a team of Supervisors, and Brand Associates setting expectations, goals, and develop talent;
- Responsible for total store, 4 wall ownership, Brand standards , Operations, People, setting high store standards that reflects company brand image, values, and culture that is focused on providing positive customer and employee experience.
- Execute Visual Merchandising and Marketing directives from business partners and install Marketing decals, props, set up new merchandising planograms, and set up marketing fixtures.
- Support company on marketing events such as in store events, Pop-up events, conventions, new store openings.
- Support company RoboShop business as needed and follow up with in store RoboShop employee and RoboShop business partners as needed.
- Must be able to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, holidays.
- Up to 10% travel may be required to support, attend business operation meeting with international team in evening.
What You Will Need
- Retail industry knowledge, skills, and abilities;
- 1+ years of Retail Store Manager experience with a high number of sku volume ,and executing retail Marketing and Visual Merchandising experience.
- Experience in managing more than 10 or more retail employees in store.
- Experienced working with international business partners, ability to speak or understand multiple languages is a plus.
- Associates Degree or Bachelors Degree in Business Management related will be preferred.
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and implement new standardization directives.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to regularly lift, carry, and move merchandise and supplies up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 6-8 hours per shift)

About the Role
As the Retail Store Manager at our new location in Markville Mall, you'll lead the charge in bringing our digital brand to life in a physical space. You'll build and manage a high-performing team, deliver a standout customer experience, and drive store performance from the ground up. This is a foundational role with visibility, growth, and real impact.

Key Responsibilities
People Leadership:
- Train and lead Field Specialists and Team Lead
- Set clear expectations and provide ongoing 1:1 coaching and development conversations
- Build individualized development plans and support career progression within the team
- Foster a team culture that is customer-obsessed, accountable, and collaborative
Customer Experience:
- Own the in-store experience from first connection to a fond farewell — ensure it's welcoming, seamless, and best in class
- Be hands-on with customers during busy periods or peak times
- Act as a Clutch ambassador — both in-store and with the broader community
Operations & Execution:
- Oversee day-to-day store operations including open/close procedures, inventory, and scheduling
- Manage staffing levels to match customer volume and appointment flow
- Maintain clean, organized, and brand-aligned retail and field spaces
Performance Management:
- Track key performance metrics (NPS, conversions, attendance, timely assistance, online reviews, etc.) and report regularly
- Identify opportunities to improve team productivity, efficiency, and customer satisfaction
- Partner cross-functionally with Field Operations, Customer Experience, Brand Marketing, Sell to Clutch, Retail, and Production teams
Administration & Compliance:
- Manage store-level scheduling and budgeting
- Build strong relationships with property managers and community stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with safety, security, and company policies
What We're Looking For:
- 2+ years in a retail store management
- Experience leading a team in a high-volume, customer-facing environment
- A love for retail and building exceptional customer experiences
- Strong leadership and coaching skills with a bias for action
- Excellent communication and problem-solving ability
- Comfortable with tech-enabled tools (Google Workspace, Slack, scheduling tools, etc.)
- Willingness to work retail hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
