**Job Description**
AECOM Buildings + Place, is seeking a motivated and skilled **Structural Design Engineer** to help lead buildings projects (commercial, institutional, light industrial facilities, such as Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants and Sewage Lift Stations) This position can be based out of **Ottawa** office with opportunities for hybrid work. Some travel to nearby cities may be required. This role offers opportunities for career growth.

**Major Responsibilities:**
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:
+ Independently perform structural analysis and design of masonry, steel, concrete, and wood structures in accordance with relevant codes and standards.
+ Prepare technical specifications and contribute to project documentation.
+ Prepare structural analysis and calculation reports.
+ Coordinate with other engineering disciplines, project managers, and clients to ensure efficient project execution.
+ Conduct site visits, inspections, and structural assessments to evaluate structure's conditions and provide recommendations.
+ Ensure project deliverables meet quality, budget, and schedule expectations with little supervision.
+ Provide technical or operational guidance to less experienced engineers, EIT's and technicians.
+ Stay updated on industry codes, regulations, and best practices to ensure high-quality design solutions.
**Qualifications**
**Minimum Requirements:**
+ Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering.
+ 2+ years of experience in structural engineering, design and analysis.
+ Holding or the ability to obtain Secret Level security clearance
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation is considered an asset
+ Experience in structural design of commercial buildings, industrial plants, government facilities, municipal infrastructures, and transit stations.
+ Proficiency in 3D structural analysis, modeling, and design software including but not limited to ETABS, STAAD Pro, SAP2000, SAFE, as well as other computer-aided design tools relevant to this role.
+ Proven expertise in applying all major structural design codes and standards, including in-depth knowledge of NBC, OBC, and CSA S16, CSA A23.1, CSA A23.3, CSA S304, CSA O86, AISC 360, ACI 318, etc.
+ Good written and verbal communication skills (English proficiency essential).
+ Ability to recognize and adhere to established deadlines and schedules is a must.
+ Ability to fit into a fast-paced team environment and/or work independently.
+ Self-motivated, detail oriented and multi-tasking

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a structural focus.
- Eligible for registration as a P.Eng. with a Canadian engineering association.
- 5+ years of experience in structural engineering, ideally in building design.
- Strong knowledge of concrete and steel design; familiarity with timber, masonry, or tilt-up construction is an asset.
- Experience designing mid-rise wood frame, mass timber connections, structural steel, and concrete transfer slabs.
- Proficiency with structural analysis tools (SAP2000, SAFE, ETABS preferred).
- Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to quality.

Your position will have you involved with all aspects of project delivery including design, client and contractor management, and field review of the work you produce.

Your work will demand application of your skills to solve problems in an existing building environment. Our work enhances resilient design, and promotes extending the service life of existing buildings, thereby reducing embodied carbon in our built environment. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work closely with Project Engineers within the project team environment, through
the life cycle of a project from conceptual and preliminary stages of the design
through to completion.
Engage in site investigation, evaluation of existing buildings, preparation of reports and studies
Structural engineering of existing building components including architectural
features, building equipment, and building enclosure components.
Structural analysis of existing building structure for revised loading conditions, and
seismic upgrade situations.
Coordinate with other engineering and architectural disciplines to facilitate projects as prime consultant. This includes assisting the client in developing construction strategies for repair/upgrade work
Contract administration/construction review of the work you design
Participate in client project requirement meetings and value analysis, including basic project costing
Follow quality control procedures established by the practice
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Degree in civil engineering from accredited university with courses that include
structural engineering design and analysis
Registered or eligible for registration as an Engineer-In-Training with EGBC
Experience:
0 to 3 years previous experience in structural engineering or construction
Experience in a consulting firm environment
Skills:

General responsibilities:
-Responsible for entire projects with significant scope and complexity
-Responsible for thermal and stress analysis of static (non-rotating) components in Gas Turbine Engines (casings, rotor support structures, stator vanes, shrouds, engine mounts, etc.).
-Ensure the design process uses optimal geometry and material selected is suitable to meet the structural requirements such as durability & strength.
-Responsible for the design process often at engine concept studies, continue during the detail design and finish at certification.
-Evaluate drawing non-compliances from manufacture or repair processes or overhaul findings.
Specific responsibilities:
- Plan and execute stress, thermal and lifing analysis (FEA and analytical approach);
- Develop & perform tests (stress, temperatures, material characterization), interpret test
results and calibrate analytical models;
- Investigate the field events from stress point of view and contribute to FMEA and develop a fix;
- Advancing simulation capability by exploring new methods and converting lessons learned
from calibration efforts into standard work (develop process definition documents);
- Damage tolerance analysis (defects induced in manufacturing process or field findings);
- Contribute to integrated product team (IPT) starting from engine concept studies until
Certification;
Required Job Qualification:
* Bachelor or Masters in Aerospace Engineering or Civil Design Engineering or similar
Bachelor: 6 to 10 year's experience or Masters: 4 to 7 year's experience
* Understanding of a gas turbine engine design and engine certification;
