The Opportunity
The Tax Accountant will primarily be focused on preparing and filing tax returns and related forms, recording transactions for investment accounts, assisting with tax audits, maintaining online tax accounts, maintaining tax records and organizing year-end materials for external tax preparers. This role will work closely with finance, investment and legal teams.
The Tax Accountant role is suitable for an individual who has some background and familiarity of Canadian tax and has proficiency in preparing tax returns and related forms. The successful candidate will have great attention to detail, strong verbal and written communication skills, the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and is a self-starter.
Responsibilities
- Prepare Canadian tax returns (personal, corporate, partnership and trusts) forms and elections.
- Perform quarterly investment bookkeeping and tracking of investment accounts.
- Assist with preparation of documents and responses for tax audits and reviews and communicate with CRA.
- Observe and note-take in meetings with tax advisers.
- Assist with preparation of materials for meetings.
- Assist with preparation of year-end materials for external tax preparers.
- Periodic review of CRA online account for all family members and entities to ensure tax accounts/instalments are up-to-date and download all correspondence to hard drives.
- Maintain tax folders.
- Assist with GST and PST Returns.
- Complete ad-hoc tax research, where necessary.
Qualifications
- 0.5-1.5 years of relevant tax experience at a public practice firm or equivalent.
- Bachelors degree.
- Familiarity with Sage, or equivalent ERP.
- Proficiency with tax preparation software (Taxprep, Profile, or equivalent).
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
- Excellent organizational skills with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail .
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with the team.
- Ability to perform with a high level of integrity, authenticity and curiosity.
This is a general description of the tasks and skills required. Additional responsibilities and duties may be required to successfully perform this position. This role requires the candidate to be in office a minimum of 4 days per week.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
As a Senior Tax Accountant at Millards, your responsibilities will include:
- Devising and implementing tax minimization and estate planning strategies.
- Leading the development and execution of strategies for clients to optimize business tax opportunities.

Relevant du Directeur de la fiscalité, le/la Conseiller(ère) principal(e) en fiscalité aura la responsabilité de contribuer à l’évolution continue de la structure internationale de l’entreprise et devra veiller au respect des exigences fiscales directes et indirectes dans plusieurs pays, à l’aide de systèmes et de contrôles conçus pour assurer des déclarations exactes et en temps opportun. Vous êtes un joueur d’équipe, animé par un objectif clair : assurer la conformité fiscale. Vous atteignez cet objectif en optimisant les procédures de déclaration et en favorisant le bon fonctionnement de l’équipe fiscale.
Votre journée en un coup d'oeil :
- Développer et mettre en œuvre une planification fiscale stratégique pour le groupe d'entreprise
- Faciliter et gérer la préparation ainsi que la révision de toutes les obligations fiscales directes, en veillant à l'exactitude et à la ponctualité du dépôt de toutes les déclarations fiscales
- Identifier et mettre en œuvre des opportunités d'amélioration des procédures fiscales de l'entreprise
- Préparer les composantes de la déclaration de revenus de l'entreprise et d'autres documents fiscaux
- Maintenir des procédures de contrôle efficaces sur tous les aspects du processus fiscal
- Faciliter les audits fiscaux sur le revenu, y compris l’analyse de la documentation et la préparation de réponses aux demandes des autorités fiscales, la création de d'horaires, etc.
- Surveiller les évolutions législatives et réglementaires en matière de fiscalité, communiquer les effets de ces évolutions à la direction et à l'équipe fiscale, et élaborer des stratégies pour tirer parti des changements dans la législation fiscale
- Identifier et gérer les risques fiscaux
- Apporter un soutien à divers audits internes et projets fiscaux spéciaux
- Fournir un soutien et des conseils aux unités commerciales sur diverses questions fiscales
Ce qui fait de vous un excellent candidat :
- Plus de 3 ans d’expérience pertinente
- Solide connaissance de la fiscalité des sociétés, y compris la fiscalité internationale
- Excellentes compétences en comptabilité, en analyse et en recherche
- Maîtrise des outils Word, Outlook, Excel et Microsoft D365
- Sens aigu du détail
- Excellentes compétences en communication écrite et orale
- Bonne connaissance du code fiscal, des obligations de conformité et des procédures applicables aux sociétés
- Familiarité avec les exigences de déclaration fédérales et provinciales au Canada
- Solide expérience dans divers aspects des opérations fiscales et capacité à améliorer les processus
- Capacité avérée à appliquer les meilleures pratiques de gestion de projet et de comptabilité pour organiser et hiérarchiser les tâches ainsi que celles des membres de l’équipe fiscale
- Capacité à travailler de manière autonome tout en collaborant efficacement avec les parties prenantes et à communiquer les avantages des initiatives fiscales
- Excellentes compétences en organisation et en relations interpersonnelles
- Maîtrise du français et de l'anglais, tant à l'oral qu'à l'écrit (ce poste nécessite des interactions avec nos collaborateurs et clients internationaux)

Your team’s dynamic:
We are looking for a Senior Tax Advisor to support the tax function of a Canadian based conglomerate with subsidiaries worldwide. You will have has hands-on experience with the corporate taxation obligations of a Canadian-based multinational and must be a collaborative team member who supports the tax team's success and contributes to the execution of tax strategies. The Senior Tax Advisor, reporting to the Director of Tax, will have the responsibility to assist for the continued evolution of the company’s international structure and be tasked with ensuring compliance with all direct and indirect taxation requirements of multiple countries through a series of systems and system controls that are designed to ensure accurate, timely reporting. You are a team player and single minded in your pursuit of ensuring compliance and achieves this goal through optimizing reporting procedures and driving the successful function of the tax team.
Your day at a glance:
- Developing and implementing a strategic tax planning for the corporate group
- Facilitating and managing the preparation and review of all direct tax compliance, ensuring the accurate and timely filing of all tax forms
- Finding and implementing opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures
- Preparing components of the company's income tax return and other tax documents
- Maintaining effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process
- Facilitating income tax audits, including analysis of documentation and preparation of responses to queries from tax authorities, creating schedules, etc.
- Monitoring legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management and the tax team and create strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation
- Identifying and managing tax risks
- Providing support with various internal audits and special tax related projects
- Providing support and advice to business units on various tax matters
What makes you a great fit:
- 3+ years of related experience
- Extensive corporate tax knowledge, including international taxation
- Strong accounting, analytical, and research skills
- Strong skills and experience with Word, Outlook, Excel, Microsoft D365
- Detailed oriented
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong knowledge of tax code, compliance and procedures for corporations
- Familiarity with Canadian federal and provincial local reporting requirements
- Strong experience with a variety of tax operations and ability to drive process improvements
- Strong ability to utilize project management and accounting best practices to organize and prioritize tasks and the tasks of other tax team members
- Ability to work well independently as well as the ability to work well with stakeholders and communicate the benefits of tax initiatives
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Fluent in French and English, both verbal and written (this role requires interaction with our international collaborators and customers)

- Current CPA license and an MTax/In-Depth designation (or under completion)
