Summary
Under close supervision, the Technician I performs minor routine maintenance and repair services on different types of vehicles. Works with the assistance of a T2, T3, T4, TIC SS or SM, when performing technical and diagnostic type repairs. Task assignments are directed by shop management to encourage development in a productive manner.
Essential Functions
- Performs basic vehicle maintenance. Perform component identification and minor repairs. Perform preventive maintenance with training and support. Summary
The Technician Trainee (TT) role is a developmental position intended to familiarize a new employee with the Technician role while working as a Service Employee and is enrolled in Ryder's 18 month Technical Training Developmental Program. The incumbent will be assigned to a mentor and receive hands-on experience and knowledge in a professional shop environment. In addition, Ryder will have the opportunity to gauge the trainee's technical aptitude, work ethic, and if they are a culture fit. The ultimate goal is to acclimate the Technician Trainee to Ryder's current business model, culture, and practices which could potentially lead to a future Technician I or Technician II position. The Technician Trainee must be able to fulfill all assigned responsibilities and technician training on a weekly basis, as guided by their assigned location mentor. The TT must be in good standing with their employment and throughout the developmental program. As with all Fleet Management Solutions (FMS) Shop positions, the trainee is responsible for adhering to all Ryder Maintenance Operations policies and procedures. Upon completion of the Technical Training Developmental Program, the TT will be prepared for technician level opportunities within the company.
Essential Functions
- Move heavy duty vehicles into or out of yard, wash bay, service shop, or delivered to rental shop. Wash and detail vehicles manually or using automated equipment. Fuel diesel, natural gas, and hybrid vehicles properly while adhering to all shop safety policies and procedures. Record fuel activity and maintain proper fuel and DEF inventories and reconciliation. This includes using hand held devices to properly identify customer and required services. Perform multi-point inspection on inbound units as required by company policies and procedures. This includes checking vehicle tire pressure and thread, fluid levels, lights, washing vehicle windows, changing tires, inspecting refrigeration units on trucks, and reporting service or driver issues to shop. Maintain fuel island area to Six Sigma standards and policies. Perform some facility maintenance. Perform minor maintenance tasks as assigned by supervisor.
- Attend and complete all Technician Training Development Program requirements and assessments. Training will include hands-on and online training as well as performing tasks learned. Position Summary
The Power Systems Technician is expected to perform service, test and maintain various types of power distribution equipment. While learning position assists Techs with measurements, equipment set up, removal, site set up and site cleanup.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up and collect data of low, medium and high voltage (to 500kV) electrical systems.
- MCC’s, Breakers and moderately complex relay calibration and power metering.
Test and calibrate electro-mechanical and solid-state relay. - Low, Medium and High voltage switchgear and circuit breaker testing.
Rotate emergency on-call duty and if called respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner. - Perform inspection, maintenance, testing and repair of transformers and all related equipment – 45 KVA to 130 MVA, dry type and oil filled.
- Perform maintenance, testing, reconditioning and repair on circuit breakers – low voltage 480 volt (molded case and air-magnetic). Maybe in location’s shop (if applicable) or Customer site.
- Perform maintenance, testing, reconditioning and repair on circuit breakers – medium voltage up to 15 KV (air-magnetic and vacuum). Maybe in location’s shop (if applicable) or Customer site.
- Test and inspect low and medium voltage cable installations.
- Perform start-up, troubleshooting and repair services on generator controls and transfer schemes.
- All work and decisions shall be conducted in strict compliance of all regulatory laws.
- Work will require flexible hours, weekends and holidays. Must be available for out-of-town work.
- Other job duties and tasks as assigned.
Required Experience and Qualifications:
- Degree or Diploma and minimum 1 year of experience in a related field.
- Knowledge of various industry standards such as: Industry safety standards.
- Prefer experience with most of the following or similar: MCC’s, Breakers, relay testing, oil testing, infrared scanning, performing start-up on switchgear up through 500kV class, etc.
- Must be able to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures.
- Good theoretical understanding of electricity and a good aptitude for problem solving.
- Effectively communicate verbally and in writing with customers and peers.
- Dependable and responsible with good judgment and organizational skills.
- Good customer service, time management and follow-up skills.
- Work effectively with customers, peers and management to resolve client issues.
- Strong computer skills with working knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office- use of Internet for standards/products/manufacturer research
- For positions that utilize a company vehicle, will be required to have a valid driver’s license.
