Telecom Engineer is responsible for Telecom engineering and design of substation telecommunication systems for high voltage substation projects. They will work within a multi-disciplinary team to develop efficient and reliable substation communication and automation systems.
They will coordinate the planning and design activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion.
Your Key Responsibilities - Provide calculation, engineering and design/drawings for telecom projects involving HVE, microwave communication, channel banks, SONET multiplexer, teleprotection, fibre cable entrance, fiber optic networks, C band / Ku band satellite, Tetra/VHF/UHF mobile radio, Power Line Carrier, -48 VDC Power systems, and IP/MPLS networks, etc.
- Prepare Bill of Materials and coordinating staging and testing of equipment racks prior to shipping for installation.
- Prepare test plans and commissioning documents for the evaluation and testing of various telecom equipment.
- Prepare technical specifications for the installation of telecommunication infrastructure.
- Coordinate and support all installation and commissioning activities for the successful implementation of the design infrastructure.
- Coordinate with other disciplines such as Transmission, Distribution, Civil, Electrical, P&C and SCADA to fulfil desired substation and system function.
- Provide study reports outlining alternatives, cost estimates and recommend solutions for various telecommunication requirements.

Your Capabilities and Credentials - Excellent computer skills with MS Office; proficiency in AutoCAD and Microstation.
- Demonstrated knowledge of operation and design of substation P&C and SCADA systems.
- Excellent communication skills in the English language, both written and verbal, particularly the ability to write complex technical documents and communicate with complex technical matters to technical and non-technical audience.
- A valid BC Class 5 driver's license (or equivalent).
Education and Experience - Bachelor's degree in Electrical engineering recognized by universities in Canada with major in Telecommunications for Power Systems.
- 4-6 years of proven direct detailed design experience in Telecom for high voltage substation projects with Utilities in North America (Experience on BC Hydro projects is an asset).
- Professional Engineer registered with the Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).

About this opportunity:

We are now looking for a Field Technician. This role is responsible for the coordination, management, and execution of Field Services activities in support of other Service Functions (SF) within Operations and Engineering. The primary focus is on in-site activities to ensure services provided to customers remain continuously available and meet defined Service Level Agreement (SLA) performance levels.

This is a local role, predominantly involving on-site support for Operations and some SIP functions—particularly in connection with engineering or deployment activities. What you will do:
  • Respond to corrective network problems by performing effective and efficient problem analysis, rapid troubleshooting, diagnosis, and prompt repair of equipment to ensure service restoral objectives are met.
  • Coordinate with other technicians and departments as required to maintain service levels.
  • Plan and implement preventive maintenance routines to ensure network performance standards are met.
  • Perform cutovers and upgrades on the network as directed by work orders.
  • Maintain up-to-date site documentation as outlined by the EWO initiative.
  • Perform acceptance tests on newly installed sites and equipment to ensure results meet design specifications.
  • Microwave and Transmission experience (e.g., DS1, DS2, DS3) would be beneficial.
  • Gain in-depth knowledge of key quality service indicators within the geographic area of responsibility.
  • Knowledge of Optical Fibre, SONET, and TCP/IP is required.
  • Participate in retune activities related to network optimization and build projects.
  • Maintain inventory of required parts and perform regular audits to ensure availability.
  • Complete administrative reporting, including mileage, timesheets, expenses, equipment logs, and deficiency ticket updates.
  • Test hand-offs, RSSI, transmit levels on mobiles, monitor dropped calls, and investigate any performance changes.
  • Document activities for future assessment and analysis.
  • Maintain current documentation of site status and complete trouble tickets, incident reports, and other required documentation.
  • Shift work, overtime, and 24-hour on-call support are required on a regular rotational basis.
The skills you bring:
  • Bachelor's, Diploma or Certificate degree in Electronics or any other related field.
  • Two plus years of experience in the telecommunications industry

The day-to-day activities of our Field Service Technician include:



- Service Delivery: Perform mechanical servicing and maintenance of air handling systems, including ductwork, dryer vents, kitchen exhausts, and filters. Assist in the installation, replacement, and maintenance of commercial and industrial HVAC filter systems across plant sites.
- Indoor Air Quality Testing: This includes setting up a variety of tests to measure air quality. To conduct these tests, it is critical that you pay keen attention to detail and accurately document the set up and timing of the testing so interpretation and reporting can be completed for the client.
- Commitment to Safety: Operate in strict adherence to client and company safety protocols and maintain a secure work environment for all team members. This involves conducting hazard assessments and diligently documenting any incidents or near misses.

The right candidate will demonstrate the following qualifications on their resume:



- 1+ years' experience effectively using hand, power and pneumatic tools, which are provided for you.
- Previous experience in HVAC, duct cleaning, IAQ testing, or mechanical system servicing in industrial, commercial, or camp settings considered an asset.
- Experience working on confined space or elevated work platforms, ability to read blueprints, and knowledge of ventilation system components is an asset.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform on-site inspections and maintenance, including checking inflation, tread wear, and overall condition to ensure tire safety, efficiency, and performance.

FIELD TECHNICIAN Edmonton, AB

A day in the Life:


Confirm with customer that everything is still on schedule


Drive your company truck to the shop and prep all equipment for install


Travel to location (typically 3-6 hours one-way)


Complete pre-job safety paperwork


With a safety mindset, install equipment while keeping workspace tidy (1-6 hours)


Check-in with customer, test equipment, and complete inventory paperwork


Leave location and head home OR book a hotel in the closest town and continue home the next morning.


*We strongly encourage hotel stays to avoid tired, night driving*


Key Responsibilities:


Completion of safety documentation (Pre-Job Assessments, Pre-Job Inspections, etc.) at every single worksite.


Service and installation of rig intercoms, cellular boosters, satellite dishes, portable cellular towers, and other communication equipment.


Diligent management of customer site and staging area equipment and inventory.


Assist in keeping shop supplies and equipment clean; organized and field ready.


Process and completion of service tickets; perform administrative functions relating to invoice records in a timely fashion.


Complete standard service reports, invoicing packages, and other administrative requirements as needed.


Maintain all company property, including field truck, service tools, phone, and equipment, in a clean working, and professional state.


Work with and carry equipment, hand tools, and specialized test equipment.


Out-of-town travel is required. A need to stay in a personnel camp or hotel is required.


Perform other related duties as assigned by management or indicated by responsibilities.

Qualifications:


A willingness to drive to remote drilling and completion operations


Must be comfortable with heights. Climbing drilling rigs (derricks) up to 160 is a necessity


A team-oriented attitude where not only your personal safety is a priority, but also the safety of those working around you


A keen understanding of computer software and hardware with troubleshooting abilities


A self-driven desire to learn about new and emerging technologies


A disposition that is open to coaching and hands-on training with a willingness to share ideas and introduce processes that may improve overall efficiencies


A desire to interact with customers on service calls in a courteous and professional manner


Ability to communicate effectively and clearly by phone, email, and text messaging


Willingness to work overtime, including evenings, holidays and/or weekends


Must also be able to work schedules that are not uniform to regular work hours; and be on call (24/7) when required.

Required Skills: * Valid class 5 driver’s license. * Comfortable working independently in remote areas and travelling for extended periods of time. * Demonstrated safe operation of an all-terrain vehicle and able to successfully complete applicable safety courses. * Familiarity with tablet-based data collection applications (e.g., Survey 123, ArcGIS Field Maps). * Superior organization skills. * Willing to work in a team environment. * Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Other skills that are considered assets include: * Demonstrated experience using GNSS systems for navigation and data collection. * Proficient use of ESRI suite products (ArcPro, ArcMap, AGOL, Field Maps, Survey 123, etc). * Demonstrated experience working outdoors. Education and Experience: * Minimum one year post secondary education in natural resource management, biology, forestry, geography, or related study * Minimum one-year experience working as a forestry technician or a related discipline.
