About the Role:
The Tool & Die Maker will repair, assemble, and/or rebuild die cast components/tooling to meet or exceed functional run capability and safety requirements, and produce castings that meet customer specifications and delivery commitments.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:Complete high-level complexity set-ups and toolmaking activities, and coordinate required manufacturing/processing activities to build, repair, assemble, and/or rebuild tooling to specifications within identified timelines, to meet production and customer needs.
- Review product/assembly/blueprint/drawings, determine, plan, and coordinate tooling movement through required sequence(s) of operations, and complete complex set-up and machining operations required to produce work piece to prescribed tolerances, dimensions, and finish;
- Conduct required inspection and measurement activities to verify conformance of machined parts to specifications, hand and machine fit die parts to precise dimensions, and disposition component/tooling for heat treat, when required;
- Expedite heat treated components through required machining and cavity center operations to fit the die/tool, verify cavity conformance to customer print and cavity layout;
- Update blueprints and communicate with Designers/support staff regarding required design modifications;
- Assemble and fit/adjust die/tooling to extremely tight drawing specifications/tolerances, prepare for first testing, and complete required documentation;
- Provide technical assistance/guidance as required throughout the initial testing and inspection of castings, and provide required input/assistance to troubleshoot and coordinate implementation of corrective actions;
- Monitor action outcomes, document completed rework, update prints and complete revision requests, and where required, record labour hours and prepare tooling to ship to production plants;
- Analyze tooling problems and inspection reports, and communicate any input regarding corrective actions with the appropriate individuals/departments ;
- Troubleshoot customer casting-related issues to determine appropriate corrective actions, and monitor impact of actions implemented to resolve issue;
- Detect and highlight design improvement opportunities, and modify engineering documents as required to improve clarity and manufacturing efficiency.
Perform routine operations and Preventative Maintenance (P.M.) functions to support efficient machine and department operations.
- Maintain production tools;
- Maintain adequate spare parts and initiate required documentation to requisition parts as needed;
- Provide guidance/support to junior peers, apprentices, and other personnel as needed;
- Conduct all scheduled P.M. activities, record and maintain completed activities records, and initiate machine/tooling/technology continuous improvement opportunities;
- Attend communication, Engineering and/or other meetings as required;
- Complete required housekeeping activities to maintain a clean and safe work area;
- Weld cavity area as required, and participate in manufacturing of new tooling when required;
- Repair or maintain all tooling on machining line plus, equipment and casting machine and robots;
- Build experimental cutters and tooling;
- Check and repair all gauging as needed;
- Assist in equipment maintenance in areas of his/her work where tool making expertise is necessary;
- Make gauges for inspection department, and electrodes, where applicable;
- Build new cavities, plates and related parts for die maintenance, jigs and fixtures to accommodate machining lines, and fixtures for robots;
- Set-up and run experimental runs.
Education, Experience & Skills Required :
- Minimum Grade 12; AND
- Certification of Qualification as a Tool & Die Maker/Toolmaker/Mould Maker; AND
- Minimum of five (5) years' experience as a Toolmaker or Mould Maker;
- Advanced level/complex blueprint reading and interpretation to conceptualize/visualize complex machining operations/procedures to manufacture the work piece to extremely tight (+/- .0002, .005 mm) tolerances and specifications;
- Advanced level ability to measure precisely in either imperial or metric measurement using measuring tools and complete conversions from one to the other;
- Advanced level skill and knowledge of the die casting process, dies, fixtures and cutting tools;
- Advanced level skill and knowledge in the safe operation of all standard tool room equipment;
- Tool steel welding skills, preferred;
- Proficiency in geometry and trigonometry;
- Ability to silver solder various sub assemblies of die parts preferred;
- Ability to weld minute cavity detail using plasma needle arc welder with minimum amount of distortions or overflow preferred;
- Intermediate level working knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, electrical controls and PLC's preferred.

Overall Responsibility:
The Tool and Die Maker is responsible for the fabrication, assembly, and maintenance of tools used in the steel blanking process. This role requires hands-on expertise in machining, tool assembly, and ensuring tooling meets all production, quality, and safety standards. The Tool and Die Maker will collaborate closely with the engineering and production teams to ensure that tooling performs at optimal levels and minimizes downtime.
Accountabilities:
- Fabricate and assemble tools, dies, and fixtures for steel blanking and stamping operations.
- Perform precision machining operations using manual equipment, such as lathes, mills, and grinders.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work instructions to ensure tools are manufactured to specification.
- Conduct regular maintenance and repairs on tooling to extend tool life and reduce production interruptions.

Position Summary:
The Mold Maintenance technician will focus on conducting preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, cleaning and storage of all injection and compression molds onsite. Emphasis will be put on ensuring the molds are well maintained to facilitate production requirements and to the molds manufacturer’s specifications.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Find and fix root cause of injection and compression mold machine issues when machines stop working
- Remove, install, setup, and handover fully functioning injection/compression machines as per the established schedule
- Operate mobile material handling equipment to position machinery and parts during installation, set-up and repair or machinery.
- Inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining and repairing all injection and compression molds
- Competently and safely use all tools and assemble and disassemble molds and operate all machine tools in a safe manner.
- Conduct preventative maintenance on all compression and injection molds up to and including stripping down, cleaning, replacing date plugs, and storing all injection/compression molds and cold runners.
- Work with other classifications of employees in various activities such as, plant shut down periods, and in times when machinery is not operating to perform all vital activities to get equipment and machinery back into operation in minimum time.
- Responsible for ensuring at all times, that the employee will maintain as a result of their own work, good housekeeping as per the standard and for ensuring that they conduct themselves in a safe and orderly way as per the company polices and safe work practices.
- Support and follow the 5S program
- Ensure all chemicals are disposed of in the appropriated manner as outlined on labels.
- Catalog and inventory all parts and tooling pertaining to mold service.
- Perform a variety of other tasks as assigned when required.

1. Housekeeping: Cleaning toolroom area and equipment.

- 5 Day shifts Monday - Friday, 8 hours, 7am - 3pm | Weekend Off
- 5 Afternoon Shifts Monday - Friday, 8 hours, 3pm - 11pm | Weekend Off
- 5 Midnight Shifts Monday - Friday, 8 hours, 11pm - 7am | 2 Midnight Shifts Saturday - Sunday, 12 hours, 11pm - 11am

What you will do:

What you bring,
- Tool and Die Maker AEC / DEP or Certificate of Qualification (430A)
- Experience working safely in a heavy industrial environment
- Working knowledge of OHSA and relevant legislation (e.g., WHMIS, Lockout, Confined Space, Working at Heights, etc.) and willingness to successfully complete employer-paid training
- Able to prioritize urgency based on production requirements
- Conduct and complete scheduled preventative maintenance work orders, tasks, and checklists

The Tool & Die Maker is responsible forensuring tooling meets process expectations. The ideal candidate will have good manual dexterity, be detail-oriented and self-motivated, and thrive in a fast-paced work environment. Summary of Responsibilities:
- Compute dimensions and tolerances to set up machinetools
- Position, secure, measure and work metal stock or castings to lay out for machining
- Assemble/disassemble parts to test completed tools, dies, jigs or fixtures for proper operation
- Directly work with suppliers to print, design, or build situations to ensure tool expectations are met
- Analyze manufacturing repairs and adjustments to formulate solutions in standardized situations
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5 years of related work experience
- Trade certification
- Ability to read and interpret documents and write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Ability to understand and effectively communicate oral and written instructions
- Ability to stand for long periods of time/ lift 23 kg (50 lbs)
- Able to work Days/Afternoons rotation and required OT
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5 years of related experience working in a manufacturing environment

Job DescriptionThe successful candidate will, upon completion of training:
- Perform mill & lathe work: Modify and repair mold equipment, mold holders, fixtures, jigs, etc.
- Setup and Operating Haas CnC Mills and Lathe an asset
- Comfortable lifting equipment up to 50lbs
- Perform Bench Operations such as blending, shaping, matching cavities, making capacity corrections, necessary cavity relief and pantograph work where standard numerals and monograms are used
Make changes in design or capacity of the molds based on customer demands
Qualifications- High School Diploma or GED
- Must possess a General Machinist 429A/ Tool and Die Maker License 430A from Ministry
- Experience with precision measuring devices, such as calipers, depth gauges, and micrometers
- Machinist skills in measuring and setting up lathes & mills
- Ability to read and comprehend blueprints
- Certificate or Diploma in Cnc setup and Programming using G and M codes an asset
- Ability/experience using vibrating tools such as die grinders
- A desire to learn and grow into the Journeyman position
- Mold Repair Experience preferred (Plastic injection, glass)
- Welding/fabrication experience also helpful
- Must be able to work overtime, including weekend and overnight shifts
- Must be able to work continental 12h shifts

Job Summary
The Tool and Die Maker Associate will be responsible for working under minimal supervision, laying out, constructing and repairing shop tools, gauges, fixtures, jigs and dies per blueprints, drawings and /or verbal instructions for use within the plant. All duties must be performed in a safe and appropriate manner and follow all IATF 16949:2016 requirements.The Tool and Die Maker Associate is also accountable for carrying out various tool room tasks and project safety as set out by the Lead Hand, Supervisor and or Manager. Due to the hazards associated with this position places special prohibitions on working while under the influence of drugs and the use of handheld devices such as cellular phones, etc.

Job Duties
- Performs and ensures proper lock out procedures (use of ram block) is performed at all times by authorized associates when equipment repairs are performed including cleaning.
- Builds new dies and tooling from drawings and /or specifications by laying out, setting up, machining, fitting and finishing metal stock and castings.
- Repairs dies and tools used in production as needed. Testing repaired dies for proper operation, operating press as required and running test parts.
- Has a good basic knowledge of various materials (tool steel, etc.) heat treating and basic welding.
- Operates a variety of machine tools to cut, mill or grind.
- Verifies conformance of completed dies to specifications by checking dimensions clearances, alignments and finish, consistently working to close tolerances.
- Proficient use and operation of all Tool room equipment including Grinders, milling machines, radial drill and lathe.
- Remains objective and open to new sytems which may occasionally be introduced within the company or department.
- Works in a cost effective manner and maintains a high standard of quality and excellent workmanship at all times.
- Ensures that the Toolroom Manager / Supervisor / Leadhand is kept informed at all times on any unsafe incidents, conditions, etc.
- Performs Preventive and Predictive maintenance on tool room equipment including dies and work on continuous improvement projects.
- Listens to information, experiences, and knowledge passed on by by previous toolroom shift ensuring effective non repetitive problem solving and machine repair.
- Passes on information, experiences and knowledge to other tool room associates in regards to repair jobs, preventive maintenance, problem symptoms, etc which he/she was involved with during shift.
- Stores equipment and tools properly when not in use.
- Ensures work area and machines are kept clean, organized and tidy at all times including after all repairs
- Maintains and takes owner ship in work order and preventive/predictive maintenance system by filling in the required forms and enter data into the computer.
- Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on all equipment and tools including overhead crane, etc.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, safety, and complete and on-time delivery
- Ensure high standards of workmanship and efficiency
- Participates in all areas of lean manufacturing.
- Supports production in all areas.
Job Requirements
- Valid Ontario Tool & Die Licence
- College degree in a related field in Tool & Die Making
- Proficient in crane operations
- Valid forklift Licence
