The Traffic Control Person (TCP) is a vital position for MacKay Contracting Ltd. This is an important role working with the traffic control crew to ensure the safety of all stakeholders impacted by the site (crew members, motorists, cyclists, pedestrians, etc.) throughout the duration of the Project. This also leads to affirming that MacKay Contracting delivers the highest quality product and service, and our ability to exceed customers expectations and improve our safety profile.
Location & Hours:
This role will be based out of the Cranbrook B.C. headquarters office, with various job locations in the East Kootenays. The shift schedule is generally Monday through Friday but could vary depending on the job location and with flexibility for weekends based on client requirements. This position will involve travel out to the jobsites. There may be occasion(s) where overtime may be required but is not expected to make up a major component of the role. This role reports to the Civil/General Foreman/Superintendent or designate.
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Read and execute traffic control plans with proper equipment, ensuring they meet B.C. MOTI requirements
- Set up, maintain, and take down traffic control devices and signage
- Execute duties in a professional manner
- Ensure workspace is free of traffic
- Regulate traffic flow and stop traffic whenever required by the progress of work, or to keep traffic moving at reduced speeds to avoid tie-ups or delays
- Operate hand-held radios to communicate
- Communicate effectively and professionally with crew, motorists, cyclists, pedestrians and construction personnel to maintain a safe and efficient traffic flow
- Provide simple directions, explain hazards and answer questions in a professional manner

+ Following the traffic control plan as written and communicated by the Site Supervisor or Crew Foreperson.
+ Communicating with Site Supervisors and other Flagger's to ensure traffic is flowing efficiently and with as minimal disruption as possible.
+ Interacting with pedestrians and motorists, as needed.
+ Working at multiple locations and under a variety of weather conditions.
+ Other duties, as required.
**Qualifications**
+ A valid driver's license with the ability to travel to multiple sites.
+ Must have valid TCP ticket.
+ Previous experience as a Flagger / Traffic Control Person.
+ Excellent communication skills.
+ A positive attitude and willingness to work as a part of a team.
+ Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
+ A safety conscious demeanor and willingness to adhere to company safety policies, practices, and procedures.
**Additional Information**

Traffic Control Setup
- Set up traffic control zones and adjusts work zone equipment.

Safety and Compliance
- Effectively conducts traffic control at worksites within the abilities and experience of the training provided to protect workers, the public, and our employees.
- Attends health and safety toolbox/tailgate meetings as required to discuss matters related to the worksite and work to conduct.

Reporting and Communication

- Reports to dispatch manager or health and safety advisor any health and safety matters, noncompliance issues, or conflicts with any employee or direction from the contractor.
Safety Gear and Equipment
- Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) required by WorkSafeBC regulations and any additional, site-specific PPE as required by contractors.
Certification and Training
- Ensures the BC Traffic Control Person (TCP) certificate is maintained to be current and valid at all times.

We have only been getting busier and have lots of work throughout the fall months and the rest of the year! In this exciting role, you would be responsible for managing traffic through construction sites in and around Halifax/Dartmouth and surrounding HRM areas. This is the perfect job for someone who loves working outdoors, on their feet, and as a team! We even provide transportation for our employees to and from work!
We offer:
- Competitive wages starting at $17.00/hour for those with no drivers license or not in a driver role.
- Wages starting at $19.50/hour for applicants who will also be responsible for operating our company vehicles.
- Drivers must have a valid Class 5 Drivers License, clean drivers abstract, and no "N" or "R" on your license.
- Traffic Control Person (TCP) certification training.

Requirements:
- Reliable and punctual.
- Must be able to interpret both written and verbal instructions.
- Great communication skills and willing to work in a team environment.
- Able to work outside in all weather conditions, often working long days.
- Comfortable working near vehicle traffic and heavy equipment on construction sites.
- Required ability to lift up to 30 lbs and standing for long periods of time.
- Valid TCP Certification an asset.
- Valid Class 5 License an asset.
