The University of Calgary's Master of Science in Sustainable Energy Development (SEDV) is a multidisciplinary offering of the School of Public Policy in collaboration with the Schulich School of Engineering, the Haskayne School of Business, the Faculty of Law, and the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape. This interdisciplinary, comprehensive graduate program provides a holistic approach to energy and environmental management through a cross section of courses taught by faculty from across the university.

The SEDV Graduate Program invites applications for Sessional Instructor appointments to teach the following courses:

SEDV 621 - Environmental Management Tools in the Energy Sector

Environmental management systems and issues are discussed as they relate to organizational and environmental impacts. Topics include: environmental management for both compliance and innovation; management processes including audits, development of indicators and reporting, green product development, risk management.

Position Requirements

The SEDV Program is seeking a candidate with excellent teaching credentials and a demonstrated background in sustainable energy and environmental issues. Applicants must have a strong commitment to teaching, particularly at the post-graduate level, and ideally hold an earned doctoral degree in an area closely related to the particular course of interest. Previous involvement with the SEDV program is an asset.

The Nutrition and Food Services, Utility Worker works in the patient and retail food service setting. Reporting to the Manager / Food Service Supervisor, the Utility Worker may be responsible for preparing and serving meals and supplies to patients, residents, Veteran's, staff, families and customers. Additionally, they are responsible for cleaning and sanitizing patient trays, related equipment and workplaces. The Utility Worker supports safe food handling procedures and provides overall service excellence. The Utility Worker performs a number of key work activities across the site.

Key Work Activities: Percentages of time allocated in the Key Work Activities are dependent upon the site and role they fulfill. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Patient Meal Selections (Customer Service)

• Answering patient phone calls and entering meal selections on a computer as applicable
• Visiting patients in their room and entering meal selections on an electronic tablet

Product/Food Preparation/Assembly and Service

Do you enjoy physical, hands-on work in building maintenance, construction and using repair tools, trucks and equipment?

Reporting to the Utility Crew Foreperson you will perform all planned maintenance and on-call tasks to ensure Transit Facilities are properly maintained. Your success will be measured by your ability to work well with the team, take pride in the work you do, and adhere to standards and directions.

What will you do?

• Perform bus shelter construction, maintenance and repairs: including construction of new shelters, complete overhauls, repairs (replacement of glass, lexan, aluminum panels and components), construction and painting of shelter bases and seats, shelter movement, and bus shelter site preparation
• Provide parking lot and busway maintenance in the Transit Centers: including asphalt potholes, gravel lot grading, line painting, signage, fence repairs, and seasonal ground maintenance
• Provide building maintenance in Transit Garages and Centers
• Provide miscellaneous maintenance and labour duties such as garbage receptacle placement and liner maintenance, and furniture moves
• Provide snow removal services at Transit facilities
• Operate various heavy equipment from forklifts, skid steers and loaders to small engine powered equipment such as backpack blowers, pressure washers, chainsaws, etc

Qualifications:

• Completion of Grade 10
• A minimum of 2 years experience in general building repairs, maintenance, and labor work

Assets:

• Building construction with glazing experience
• Experience safely operating a bobcat and driving one and three-ton trucks with a trailer

Skills required for success:

• Ability to use hand and power tools safely and skillfully and able to measure accurately
• Must be willing to train as an equipment operator for Tandem trucks, front end loaders, excavator, bobcat etc.

About The Opportunity
Reporting to the Assistant Manager, the Utility Worker maintains the cleanliness of the hospital. Activities include cleaning, mopping and dusting all areas in the hospital. Other work would include floor care (scrubbing and waxing floors), shampooing of carpets and chairs, waste removal (hazardous waste and regular waste), chemical spill cleanup, laundry tasks, room set-ups, window cleaning (interior), some salt application during winter months, isolation room cleaning, flood and bloodspill clean ups.

How You'll Perform The Role

• Ensure adequate supply of roll (as per the work order) behind the machine for the next roll change
• Ensure all machines have the correct type and quantity of packaging material as per work order
• Safely load the rolls on roll stands using crane or lifting devices.
• Operate crane and fill the pre inspection check list
• Lift and place packed boxes on skids as per skid layout in the work order and picture spec.
• Use pallet jack (BT) to move and place skids in assigned locations and move finished goods to the staging area/ stretch wrapper.
• Scan the skid in order to create the master label where required
• Follow the combo reporting procedure
• Sort the cores according to the sizes and recycle to extrusion.
• Count and credit boxes to warehouse once a work order is completed
• Act as relief operator (when required) while the actual operator is on break.
• Collect waste cardboard from cell and move to the collection system/ baler
• Collect all garbage from the cell and dispose in the compactor
• Operate the baler/compactor in a safe manner
• Complete BT & Crane pre-inspection check list in each shift before first use
• Maintain proper housekeeping and 5S in own work area and around work units
• Perform all work in a safe manner and fully comply with the Safety and Quality (GMP) policies and procedures of the Company
• Any other duties as assigned by the Management

What We Need From You

• Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
• Computer knowledge is preferred
• Polar Pak Licensing Requirements: Crane & BT (In house training will be provided)
• Good communication skills in English (verbal and written)
• Team player with ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks and priorities
• Able to read schedule and must have knowledge of raw material use on each machine
• Able to read / understand work order in order to use correct type of pallets and proper box layout

Golden Arrow School Bus Ltd is looking for a maintenance-utility worker to join its operations team in Edmonton area. If you are committed to safety, you would be a good candidate to work at Golden Arrow.

Responsibilities:

• Wash inside and outside of buses, coaches and other company vehicles;
• Clean up shop floor, put out garbage;
• Put away parts and other supplies as delivered from vendors;
• Shuttle vehicles from shop and wash bays to laydown;
• Fuel vehicles and equipment;
• Start vehicles in winter months;
• Pick up parts from vendors;
• *Clean offices and lunch room;
• Complete daily hazard assessment paperwork;
• Pull parts and supplies from stock;
• Parts inventory counts;

Qualifications:

• Must have class 5 license with no restrictions.
• Must have a clean driver's abstract
• Skid steer ticket (or ability to acquire one with 3 months) desirable
• OSSA desirable
• Experience in a maintenance position desirable.
• Must be able to pass criminal record check and drug and alcohol testing.

Shifts:

• 7 days on 7 days off
• 12 hour shift
