The Maintenance Utility Worker is an integral part of the Maintenance Team, providing essential support to journeymen tradespeople and helping maintain a safe, clean, and well-prepared work environment. This role performs basic tasks such as cleaning, setup, and equipment preparation to keep maintenance activities running smoothly. The Maintenance Worker also assists with minor troubleshooting and repairs under supervision and is expected to use hand and power tools safely to support the team's work.
**Maint Responsibilities:**
+ Assist tradespeople by preparing work areas, staging tools and materials, and performing supporting tasks during maintenance and repair activities.
+ Clean parts and equipment before and after servicing to maintain operational readiness and safety.
+ Safely operate and use hand tools and power tools for basic tasks, repairs, and preparation work.
+ Perform routine shop and equipment cleanup to maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work environment.
+ Conduct basic mechanical or electrical troubleshooting under supervision to support maintenance work.
+ Handle, move, and store parts, materials, and equipment as needed to facilitate maintenance activities.
+ Assist with assembling, disassembling, or installing components under direction from maintenance staff.
+ Follow all safety procedures and site policies, including confined space entry, working at heights, and lockout/tagout.
+ Assist with minor repairs, adjustments, or preventive maintenance tasks as directed by maintenance staff or supervisors.
+ Communicate clearly with team members and supervisors to ensure tasks are completed safely and efficiently.
+ Assist with loading and unloading parts and materials safely using appropriate equipment or manual handling techniques.
+ Transport tools, parts, and supplies to and from job sites within the facility as required.
+ Perform basic lubrication tasks under supervision, following standard procedures.
+ Assist with inventory checks and maintaining organization in storage areas or tool cribs.
+ Identify and report unsafe conditions or equipment issues promptly to supervisors.
+ Assist in setting up barricades or signage to maintain safe work zones during maintenance.
+ Help test equipment after maintenance work under supervision to confirm proper operation.
+ Participate in routine safety talks, toolbox meetings, and other safety-related activities to support a strong safety culture.
**Qualifications**
**Knowledge, Skills and Experience:**
+ High school diploma or equivalent.
+ Previous experience in a maintenance, industrial, or trades environment preferred.
+ Basic familiarity with mechanical or electrical systems.
+ Experience with welding or troubleshooting is considered an asset.
+ Confined Space Entry certification (preferred but not required).
+ Fall Arrest certification (preferred but not required).
+ Boom Lift and Scissor Lift operator licenses (preferred but not required).
+ Ability to complete any required site safety training.
+ Understanding of basic mechanical or electrical maintenance practices.
+ Ability to safely operate hand tools and power tools.
+ Capable of assisting tradespeople with physical tasks, material handling, and preparation work.

- Perform various manual labour duties such as, but not limited to:
- Work on the concrete crew,
- Assist Vactor Truck Operator with routine flushing and cleaning catch basins,
- Work on the sewer crew,
- Repair manholes and catch basins,
- Clear debris from roadways,
- Apply cold patch to roads needing repairs and report work completed to the Supervisor,
- Primarily complete duties of Waste Collection vehicle operator,
- Work at the Enviro Depot,
- Perform Winter Control Maintenance duties such as Road Plow and Sidewalk plowing activities.
- Perform traffic maintenance duties:
- Set up traffic control measures,
- Fix or replace traffic signs.
- Perform other duties as required, such as, but not inclusive of:
- Help mechanics as needed,
- Paint and clean equipment,
- Wash, fuel and complete general equipment maintenance,
- Perform annual sewer inspections,
- All other duties as assigned.
Essential
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
- Class DZ Ontario Driver’s License in good standing.
- Must have or willing to obtain Standard First Aid and CPR training.
- Must be able to attend mandatory Orientation Training.
- Minimum Grade 10 or equivalent.
- Experience operating a wide variety of heavy equipment.
- Training with MTO Book 7 for Temporary Conditions, and proven knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other applicable legislation.
- Subject to working in all weather conditions.
- Works in dirty conditions and is required to do heavy lifting.
- Subject to shift work and overtime as required.

You will be responsible for operating rivet machines, packaging equipment, deliner machines, and other positions within the facility.
- Operates equipment in the most efficient manner possible with the constant intention of finding new improvements to increase production and quality levels.
- Troubleshoots equipment when any errors occur to find the cause of the problem and to seek ways to prevent the error from recurring.
- Proactively monitors production to ensure that quality levels remain at the highest possible levels.
- Perform all setup and changeover processes in the most efficient manner possible.
- Continuously seeks new methods of production to increase efficiency, safety, and quality while reducing costs.
- Maintains operations that guarantee safety is always preserved.
- Aggressively seeks all opportunities available to develop new skills and increase personal development to achieve the highest performance possible.
- Performs all quality inspections of parts during production and immediately seeks to correct any issues found.
- Performs routine daily maintenance activities on equipment.
- Proactively seeks to keep the equipment and work area as orderly and clean as possible to aid future production.
- Ensures that the work area is spotless and ready for the next operator at the end of the shift.
- Additional duties assigned by the Supervisor and/or the Team Lead.
- High school diploma or equivalent degree.
- 1 year of prior experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- A minimum of two years of mechanical press, robot welder, drum welder, rivet machine, and/or transit equipment operator experience is preferred.
