Job Overview:
As a UI/UX Designer with Smoking Gun Interactive (SGI), you’re experienced in designing, executing and implementing game user interface assets and animations. You will focus on creating intuitive, engaging and seamless experiences for players.
*Whilst this position is being offered on a remote basis, we are only able to consider applicants who are currently located within the greater Vancouver area
Requirements
In this role, you will:
- Drive one or more game titles UX / UI design from feature conception to implementation of UI, and support beyond ship date
- Collaborate with the Game Designers to translate game systems and gameplay user experience goals into intuitive interfaces that support and enhance the game experience.
- Work closely with the Art Director/Lead to understand and document the artistic style and goals to help define UX guidelines and build beautiful, user-centric experience
- Conceptualize UI/UX designs through wireframes, flow diagrams, interactive mocks, in-game prototyping, pre-visualization clips while ensuring that iterative feedback from stakeholders is incorporated
- Communicate designs and design rationale clearly, to the team and to management or others as needed
- Produce final wireframes and art mock-ups for design specs, including detailed asset requirements and use cases for UI implementation
- Assist artists, game designers, and programmers to fully integrate the aesthetic, mechanical, and technical elements of the product's user interface according to specifications
- Orchestrate feedback loops including team's play testing and player research, and respond to the results to improve on designs
- Observe and interpret results of usability testing and live game metrics, sharing conclusions with the team that help increase accessibility and inform design decision making game-wide
- Maintain UX standards and related documentation to help the company create a consistent, quality experience for its players across mobile platforms and PC
To be successful in this role, you must have:
- 3+ years of experience as a UI/UX Designer in the game industry
- A strong portfolio with at least one shipped mobile and PC game title (**portfolio must submit to be considered**)
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Figma and prototyping tools
- Experience with user research, A/B testing, feedback loops and data analysis
- Strong knowledge of game development, game design principles and developing interactive interfaces in game engine
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Bachelor’s degree in user experience, graphic design or related field

Key Responsibilities:- Workflow Analysis & User Research:

- Plan and execute comprehensive user research activities, including interviews, usability testing, surveys, and contextual inquiries, directly engaging with a diverse range of Ouster customers and internal stakeholders.
- Develop user personas, journey maps, and empathy maps to thoroughly understand user needs, motivations, and pain points.
- Collaborate closely with Field Application Engineers, Sales AEs, Product Managers and Engineering to understand business objectives and technical constraints related to customer workflows.
- Mockups Generation & Documentation:
- Create detailed wireframes, mockups, user flows, and interactive prototypes to illustrate proposed design solutions and user interactions.
- Translate research findings and workflow analyses into clear, concise, and actionable user stories and UI/UX requirements for development teams.
- Document user interface specifications, including layout, navigation, interaction patterns, and visual design elements, adhering to our design system.
- Prioritize features and enhancements based on user impact and business value.
- Design & Best Practices:
- Apply industry best practices in UI/UX design, human-computer interaction (HCI), and usability principles to all design recommendations and requirements.
- Stay ahead of emerging UI/UX trends, tools, and technologies, advocating for their strategic adoption where appropriate.
- Contribute to the evolution and consistency of Ouster's design system and component library.
- Collaboration & Communication:
- Act as a strong advocate for the user throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Present research findings, design concepts, and requirements to cross-functional teams (engineering, product, sales, FAEs) and gather constructive feedback.
- Facilitate workshops and design sprints to foster collaborative problem-solving.

The Role
