As a Visual Effects Artist (FX) with the Rainbow Six Siege team at Ubi MTL, you’ll craft stunning visual moments that positively impact gameplay and enhance player immersion. What you’ll do
- Collaborate with the direction team to understand the overall creative vision and establish visual effects priorities.
- Create environmental and cinematic effects using particle systems and textures you produce.
- Work with programmers to identify needs and develop the tools required.
- Adhere to technical constraints to deliver visually appealing yet functional effects.
- Integrate your visual effects into the game engine.
- Refine your effects by testing the game and gathering feedback from collaborating teams (debug and optimize ).
- Adapt to community feedback post-launch (where applicable), balancing expectations with technical limitations.
What you bring to the team
- Experience in FX/VFX (visual effects), preferably in the video game industry
- Proficiency with 2D art tools (e.g., Photoshop), compositing software (e.g., After Effects or Nuke), 3D software (e.g., Maya or 3DS Max), and game engines (e.g., Unity or Unreal)
- Solid understanding of basic vector math and artistic fundamentals (visual effects, lighting, composition, proportion, color theory, etc.)
- Ability to accept, interpret, and apply constructive feedback
- A creative and collaborative mindset
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Knowledge of procedural generation software (e.g., Houdini) and/or shader creation and optimization is a big plus.

THE ROLE: MOTION GRAPHICS DESIGNER
JOB OVERVIEW
Motion Graphics Designers design and animate Fantasy User Interface(FUI) elements for on-set playback on Film and Television productions. This position works closely with Key Creatives in a fast paced and focused production environment. Motion Graphics Designers are required to both work on teams and individually, to conceptualize, communicate, and execute design ideas quickly. This is an in-office position with a remote work component as needed based on changing health and safety protocols. This position reports to the Playback Producer and Key Creatives.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES ARE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
- Create robust, technically solid Motion Graphic sequences for Playback and Post that clearly, artfully and efficiently communicate the story points in a given scene or brief.
- Read and interpret scenes to better address each creative brief.
- Conceptualize and build original designs and FUI systems.
- Make use of pre-existing visual elements and design systems to develop concepts.
- Research visual reference material to drive design process forward.
- Innovate new uses to enhance existing systems
- Iterate design and animation passes quickly and address any notes from Key Creatives.
- Prepare graphics to technical specifications and quality control standards.
- Provide clear and concise documentation when necessary on how to use published motion graphics builds.
- Work within tight timelines to complete graphics and ensure production deadlines are met.

ROLE SUMMARY
The Motion Graphics Coordinator (Contract) will be assigned to productions and will be responsible for breaking down scripts, attending meetings with production, budgeting hours for motion graphics builds, and creating and delivering design briefs to our team of Motion Graphics Designers. You will provide design and story feedback to the artist (alongside the Creative Director) until the graphics build is complete, and then send it to the director, writers, and showrunner for review.

- Read and create script breakdowns identifying screen graphic elements on laptops, phones, tablets, TVs, and computer monitors.
- Budget the hours a motion graphics artist needs to complete each creative build.

Summary of Position
As a VFX Visual Development Artist/Concept Artist for Environments, you will be responsible for creating visual development pieces that define and/or refine the visual style and storytelling of our project. You will work closely with the VFX Art Director and creative leads to produce compelling visuals that guide the production of our film.
Job Functions
- Collaborate with the VFX Art Director to conceptualize and/or iterate on key visual beats and themes throughout the film.
- Starting from storyboards, 2D concept art, or rough pre-vis models, develop and create visually stunning key art that aligns with the film’s visual style and narrative.
- Render high-quality key images to provide various VFX departments (Enviro, Lighting, FX, Comp) with realistic and applicable production ready targets.
- Use 2D software to refine production images and/or elements into practical production ready targets.
- Work closely with the production team to ensure deliverables meet fast- paced delivery schedules.
- Participate in team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and reviews to provide creative input and feedback.

- 3+ years’ experience as a Visual Development Artist/Concept Artist, preferably in the VFX or film industry.
- Strong portfolio showcasing a range of high-quality visual development and key art pieces.
- Excellent understanding of color theory, lighting, composition, and visual storytelling.
- Strong artistic skills with a keen eye for detail and realism.
- Experience working with reference data, renders, photos, HDRIs, and photogrammetry.
- Ability to work collaboratively in an extremely fast-paced, creative environment.
- Strong time-management skills.
- Proficiency in 3D modeling, sculpting, and rendering software such as Maya, Blender, Houdini, Terragen, World Creator, Gaea, ZBrush is required; experience with Adobe Creative Suite, is preferred.
Preferred Skills:
- Strong photography portfolio.
- Experience in traditional art forms such as drawing, sculpting, or painting.
Additional information
- British Columbia Employees Pay Range: $45 - $65 (The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location of the position)
- Zoic does not cover relocation costs.
- Any and all WFH positions require the candidate to have a reliable internet connection via ethernet and work on Pacific Standard Time.
