Job Overview:
We are currently hiring dependable and experienced DZ Drivers for commercial waste collection routes in the downtown core. This is a physically demanding, full-time position involving the pickup of waste from restaurants, schools, office buildings, and hotels. Candidates must be prepared for long shifts and early or late start times.

Shift Details:

  • Day Shift Start Times: 4:00 AM, 5:00 AM, or 6:00 AM

  • Night Shift Start Times: 6:00 PM or 7:00 PM

  • Shifts are typically up to 12 hours with variable end times based on route completion

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate waste collection trucks safely and efficiently (DZ license required)

  • Complete assigned commercial pickup routes in a timely manner

  • Follow all safety procedures and regulations

  • Maintain a clean and functional vehicle

  • Communicate effectively with dispatch and supervisors

Requirements:

  • Valid DZ license with a clean driving record

  • Physically fit and capable of working long, physically demanding shifts

  • Steel-toe boots are mandatory

  • Previous experience in waste collection or commercial driving is preferred (1+ years)

  • Strong attention to safety and customer service

Wage:

Starting at $24/hour , based on experience

*You will also be required to provide an updated CVOR (Commercial Vehicle Record) that is no older than 30 days, as well as a Drivers Abstract, also no older than 30 days.

Job Overview:  BEST is looking for a self-motivated individual to help us develop and implement an environment friendly program, ensure personnel are properly training for environmental hazards, and over see environmental health and safety audits.

Job Location:  Kitchener, ON

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspect and sort all types of waste streams using proper PPE to create diversity reports
  • Conduct annual waste audits, sample collection, perform or coordinate physical waste sort, gather waste management data for other sustainability reports. 
  • Gather waste management data to support other sustainability reports throughout the year
  • Oversee Support the Environmental Sustainability Coordinator in engaging faculty, staff and students in waste management initiatives
  • Monitor waste management programs and infrastructure across campuses and support implementation of improvements and upgrades as necessary
  • Support the transition to centralized waste management systems across campuses
  • Be a liaison between the Facilities department and Custodial Services to ensure the waste management plan remains a priority for custodial staff and they are empowered to implement and maintain it as necessary
  • Visit campuses and sites to evaluate and monitor waste management program successes/challenges and report to Facilities on recommended improvements
  • Work with the Environmental Sustainability Coordinator to identify gaps in existing waste management programs, and identify new opportunities to increase waste diversion rate
  • Support the implementation of new waste management programs as they arise
  • Support daily waste management requests, including coordination of waste hauler and secure document shredding services, delivery of waste bins and other supplies to various campuses, and invoice validation
  • Monitor field work to ensure compliance with company standards, procedures specifications and codes and advise and educate staff on environmental issues and programs
  • Support the Environmental Sustainability Coordinator in engaging faculty, staff and students in waste management and other sustainability initiatives through workshops, training, development of social media content
  • Support the ongoing operations of existing waste management programs and work closely by attending meetings with the Sustainability Committee on campus
  • Support updating policies and procedures to achieve waste diversion goals

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Diploma or Degree in Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering
  • Waste auditing experience and/or certification is required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to work in a diverse environment
  • Must have a valid Drivers Licence
