Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Promote a corporate culture of health and safety where safety is seen as a shared responsibility
  • Support and promote Occupational Health & Safety Program and COR program alongside the Health & Safety Manager
  • Work alongside the HR department on WorkSafe BC Claims, LTD, Leave of Absence and Return to Work Programs.
  • Conduct Site Visits
    • Monitor the safety compliance of workers and subcontractors.
    • Proactively identify hazards and implement corrective measures in cooperation with the Health & Safety Manager
    • Arrange and conduct safety meetings on-site
  • Conduct Incidents/Investigations
    • Participate in JOHS meetings, incident investigations and project kickoffs to take meeting minutes.
    • Conduct hazard assessments, incident investigations and risk assessments
    • Ensure all accidents, incidents, and injuries are properly reported to all appropriate parties and data are properly tracked for metrics
    • Conduct and document site inspections and site hazard audits
  • Implement Discipline
    • Monitor, recommend and implement corrective action suggestions resulting from inspections, investigations, site visits, and safety committee reports
    • Identifying and documenting unsafe acts or conditions that require immediate correction and communicating them to the parties involved
  • Certificate of Recognition (COR)
    • Ensure requirements for COR certification are being met
    • Assist in the development and enhancement of Job Hazard Analysis and Safe Work Practice documents based on existing materials
    • Review, on a continuous basis, the performance of the safety program and make recommendations on changes and improvements, should they be required
  • Remain current on all WorkSafe BC and OH&S legislation
  • Acquire competence and understanding in executing the Organizations Safety program
  • Understand all business unit safety programs, company codes of business conduct, site-specific procedures and management systems
  • Administer first aid as necessary
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • First Aid- intermediate certification is required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of BCCSA COR is required.
  • A minimum of 3+ years of high-rise experience as a CSO is required, preferably in multi-residential high-rises.
  • Must have a valid BC driver's license-class 5 as well as a vehicle to travel between multiple sites in the Lower Mainland.
  • Gold Seal certification is considered a strong asset.
  • Solid knowledge of BC WorkSafe regulations, policies, guidelines, and standards.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) are considered assets.
  • Previous experience with Site Docs is considered a strong asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office package.

+ Responsible and accountable for timely and high-quality contribution to periodic and ad hoc (e.g. Health authority requests) safety reports for assigned products in terms of authoring and review of medical sections, the overall medical-scientific analyses and conclusions.
+ Responsible and accountable for the ongoing monitoring and assessment of the safety profile of assigned Astellas developmental and marketed products as a member of study teams and for representing PV in the design, conduct, analysis and reporting of Phase 1 - Phase 3 clinical trials and Post-Authorization Studies.
**Required Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's degree required; advanced professional degree in scientific, health-related field (e.g. PharmD or PhD) strongly preferred (pharmaceutical industry experience in a relevant therapeutic area preferred);
+ Minimum of at least 6 years of experience with M.D., D.O., PhD, or PharmD degree, and at least 8 years of experience with bachelor's or master's degree, in the pharmaceutical industry and/or a relevant health science setting (such as academia). Direct exposure to pharmacovigilance functions, additional regulatory and/or clinical development experience is a plus.
+ In-depth understanding of safety regulations for both marketed and investigational products, and excellent knowledge of regional and global authority requirements, including ICH, and other applicable requirements, able to influence decisions relating to patient safety and assessment of benefit-risk.

+ Representing Astellas towards local Health Authorities and pharmaceutical industry associations on all matters PV, as applicable.
+ Responsible for monitoring and reviewing the Pharmacovigilance activities at affiliate level, whilst overseeing the systematic collection and documentation of Product Safety information and related activities and passing information to all other relevant stakeholders that could include the Health Authority.
+ Responsible for collecting relevant publicly available PV information and use this information to inform relevant people.

+ Liaison on a strategic and operational level with the Affiliate RAPV Lead, headquarters, EU-QPPV / L-QPPV and local Business Partners, as applicable - on all matters PV.
+ Anticipates fluctuating workload and ensures adequate resourcing and prioritization.
+ Acts as primary contact for (potential) safety issues at the responsible country / countries and/or affiliate(s).

+ Ensures that safety information (Adverse Events) received from all sources (e.g literature search, Market Research, Patient Support, Digital Media) by the affiliate are collected, translated and forwarded to designated Regional Global PV Headquarter, in compliance with required timelines (reporting timelines), quality guidelines and standards, as applicable.
+ Overseeing and monitoring compliance of case documentation, as applicable.
+ Distributes and/or submits ICSRs to relevant destinations, as applicable.
+ Periodically reviews local literature, as applicable.
+ Distributes / submits aggregate reports such as Periodic Safety Update Reports (PSURs) to Competent Authorities (CAs) and Suspected Unexpected Serious Adverse Reaction (SUSAR) Line Listings (LLs) to Investigators, as required. Manages local translations and creation of annexes and cover letters where required.
+ Distributes / submits Risk Management Plans, where required with local translations (as required) and cover letter. Creation and maintenance of L-RMPs as applicable.
+ Adequately and timely implements additional Risk Minimization Measures, as applicable.
+ Manages local signal detection- and management-related activities.
+ Manages outsourced partners to ensure PV activities are conducted according to the relevant procedures, as applicable
+ Responsible for the development and maintenance of locally applicable PV Quality documents.
+ Ensures filing, storage and archiving of PV documentation in accordance with PV regulations and with Astellas policies and procedures
+ Request to have access to, and be aware of, the affiliate business continuity plan (for example system failure and other disasters) in relation to PV activities. Responsible for ensuring a local mechanism is in place for 24/7 availability to enable appropriate handling of potential urgent safety issues by the affiliate.
+ Ensures timely and compliant management of locally required post-authorization studies, as applicable.
+ Ensures effective PV business continuity arrangements and PV-related third party life-cycle management.
+ Leads PV system audits, inspections and management of non-conformances and Corrective Actions and Preventive Action (CAPA) plans.
+ Appropriately handles potential safety issues as well as timely communication of information that requires notification to local Health Authorities and timely responses to local Health Authority requests.
+ Ensures up-to-date content for the (L-)PV System Master File (PSMF).
+ Supports management of the affiliate PV budget in a cost-efficient manner.
**Required Qualifications**
+ BS Degree in pharmacy, medical, life sciences, chemistry or similar
+ 5+ years relevant experience in a PV role and/or combined PV/QA/QA; to include direct contact and engagement with national Health Authority.
**Preferred Qualification**
+ Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian PV regulations and guidelines (other jurisdictions is an asset)
+ Relevant external pharmaceutical (professional) training with an advanced professional degree

You have

  • A current CSO certification
  • A minimum of 7 years experience in safety
  • Industrial First Aid Level 2 certification with transportation endorsement
  • Strong organization and people skills
  • A trade background (strongly preferred)
  • Strong computer skills including experience in Electronic Safety Systems such as SiteDocs
  • Knowledge of construction work processes, tools, and machinery
  • The ability to guide train and teach site crews regarding safety
  • Understanding of current regulations, bylaws, and utility protection
  • Be a strong in Regulatory knowledge and advise the site superintendent accordingly

We are currently seeking a qualified Construction Safety Officer to join our construction team based out of Toronto, ON. The Construction Safety Officer will be responsible for performing construction assurance and compliance activities and supporting project teams to develop Safe Work Procedures and have the opportunity to work on the Ontario Line, Metrolinx project. Join us in this full-time permanent role and be a champion of diversity and inclusion.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform construction assurance and compliance activities on the assigned Projects,
  • Support Project teams to develop Safe Work Procedures and to implement effectively for the safe execution of the works,
  • Perform formal inspections and audits to ensure compliance with the relevant OHS legislation, standards, and contract requirements,
  • Provide day to day oversight for on-site construction work conducted by contractors to assess contractor compliance against the relevant OHSA legislation and contract requirements, support with the identification of hazards and implementation of risk mitigation controls,
  • Review site activities and provide support for the protection of workers as well as public, infrastructure, and operations,
  • Engage, coordinate and work with Integrated Project Team and internal/external stakeholders to provide consistent and continuous support,
  • In collaboration with the Integrated Project team, review, analyze and outline construction activities and work areas to ensure safe and efficient delivery,
  • Participate and/or support others with incident investigations, including follow up actions to ensure implementation of identified corrective actions,
  • Assist the Safety Director and Safety team with other tasks as required.
Qualifications

  • 5 to 7 years’ experience in heavy civil/earthwork and/or railway construction safety
  • Strong working knowledge of Ontario OHSA Act and Regulations with an enhanced level of knowledge and experience in construction requirements.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience in managing multitasks and multiple priorities within time frames.
  • Ability to establish collaborative and effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • NCSO or other designation is preferred.
