About the Role
Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Educational Assistant to join our team in supporting teachers and enhancing the learning experience for students. The ideal candidate will have a passion for education and a strong desire to work with children, including those with special needs. This role requires effective communication skills and the ability to foster a positive learning environment.
Duties
- Assist teachers in delivering instructional activities and managing classroom behaviour.
- Support students with diverse learning needs.
- Provide one-on-one or small group assistance to students in various subjects, including math and early childhood education.
- Help implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students requiring special education services.
- Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and parents to promote student success.
- Maintain a safe and organized classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance skills.
Requirements
- Previous classroom experience or teaching background is preferred.
- Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs or disabilities.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Knowledge of early childhood education principles and practices.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also being self-motivated.

Grade / Division: Special Education Resource Teacher
FTE / Sections: 0.40 FTE
Schedule: As per collective agreement.
Qualifications: As per the Education Act and Regulations, unless otherwise specified.
Appointment of Occasional Teachers in Long Term Assignments
This assignment shall be filled in accordance with Part A, Article 17.3 of the current OECTA Elementary Collective Agreement, wherein priority placement will be given to unplaced, qualified redundant teacher applicants from the Elementary Teacher bargaining in order of seniority. In the event the assignment remains unfilled, qualified applications from the Occasional Roster will be considered.
Notwithstanding the above, we encourage applications from all Ontario Certified Teacher applicants as well as education students holding, or who have applied for a:
- Transitional Certificate of Qualification and Registration from the Ontario College of Teachers; or
- Multi-Session Transitional Certificate of Qualification and Registration from the Ontario College of Teachers.
Please note that the posted end date is subject to change and the assignment may terminate as follows:
- on a date determined to meet a Board staffing requirement; or,
- the last teaching day before the return date of the absent teacher; or,
- by no later than the last teaching day of the current school year.
This assignment may end sooner than the posted end date.
