The Engineering Projects Department is an integral part of YVR, supporting the construction and development projects on Sea Island. The Engineering Department works internally and externally to achieve the goals of YVR Executive Team and leadership.

Position Overview

We have a permanent, full-time opportunity for an Intermediate or Senior Project Engineer (Electrical Engineering) in the Engineering Projects Department. Reporting to the Manager, Airport Terminal Projects, the successful candidate will be responsible for the implementation and management of a diverse array of mid-sized to large design and construction projects, focusing on new and upgrading existing electrical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  1. Managing assigned capital and investment projects, including developing project requirements, project scope, budget, and schedule.
  2. Preparing and delivering on project implementation plans in collaboration with YVR stakeholders and Airport Operations and Maintenance while acting as a leader in construction safety and environmental stewardship.
  3. Preparation and evaluation of Request for Proposal and Tender documents, including scope of work definition, technical requirements, and schedule constraints.
  4. Managing design teams to develop contract documents and meet desired project outcomes while adhering to scope, schedule, and budget.
  5. Maintaining and managing construction contracts, schedules, and project budgets including forecasting costs and risk management.
  6. Liaising with internal Airport Authority departments and external stakeholders throughout the projects, facilitating discussions, reviews, inspections, and site visits.

Key Qualifications Include:

  1. Completion of a university degree in mechanical or electrical engineering combined with a minimum of five years’ (for Intermediate Project Engineer) or ten years’ (for Senior Project Engineer) experience in the design, construction, or consulting industry. Completed education in other engineering fields will be considered if accompanied by relevant working experience in a similar size and nature facilities electrical distribution system.
  2. Registered or eligible to register within 6 months as a Professional Engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC); Passing of the National Professional Practice Exam (NPPE) is required.
  3. Knowledge of construction industry practices and standards; knowledge of airport operations systems is an asset.
  4. Strong project management, organization, and knowledge of contract law and contract administration processes.
  5. Proficiency using Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Project.
  6. Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

Our client is seeking an experienced and motivated Electrical Associate to join the Toronto office. This leadership role involves managing and overseeing the electrical team, along with the projects - while fostering client relationships and mentoring junior staff. The ideal candidate will have technical expertise with strong project management experience to deliver exceptional results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Leadership: Lead the electrical design and delivery of complex building projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical, architectural, and structural groups, for seamless project execution.
  • Technical Design Expertise: Develop and review electrical system designs, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and renewable energy systems. Conduct detailed engineering calculations and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards, such as the Ontario Electrical Safety Code and Canadian Electrical Code.
  • Business Development: Support business development initiatives by identifying new opportunities and contributing to proposal development. Strengthen the firm's market presence through networking and industry involvement.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in electrical engineering for building design.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and sustainable design principles.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and lead cross-functional teams effectively.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Reporting to the Electrical Design Engineering Manager, this position is responsible for leading projects of varying complexity, reviewing and providing oversight of all projects built by the assigned design team, guiding and mentoring design engineers to reach their goals and assist with supporting the local production facility with any technical issues.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Review and redline drawings completed by other engineers. Suggest solutions or alternate designs where applicable, ensuring packages are complete, consistent with electrical regulatory body standards, and that they meet the project requirements.

· Proactively suggest novel solutions to problems as they arise.

· Aid in building training programs and development plans for local engineers.

· Provide onboarding and training for new engineering and support team members.

· Provide mentorship and encourage growth and technical/professional advancement in the teams.

· Provide insight, product solutions and reference projects to enable the success of the electrical design engineering team.

· Provide training exercises for the electrical design engineering team.

· Attend kick-off meetings for new complex orders.

· Check in with engineers regularly to identify issues that could lead to missed due dates or design issues. Find solutions to keep jobs on track and be a resource when the design engineer has questions.

· Work with the test department and production staff to help coordinate testing of complex products.


COMPETENCIES:

· Advanced knowledge of 3-phase electrical system design concepts.

· Strong technical capability.

· Understanding NRTL certifications and UL listings, e.g. UL891, UL1558, UL67, IEEE C37.20, CSA.

· Project/task management and the ability to carry out a plan that moves a task to completion.

· Ability to interact directly with customers, sales, other technical resources and management.

· Ability to organize tasks and explain complex subjects to junior engineering team members in a way that they can understand.

· Leadership skills.

· Takes ownership over projects and provides oversight to a larger cross-functional team.

· Time management.

· Attention to detail and thoroughness.

· Excellent written and oral communications skills.

· Ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology diploma (Power Option preferred) or equivalent professional experience preferred.

· Minimum of 3 years of design experience in power products.

· Excellent working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, etc.).

· Working knowledge of AutoCAD drafting software.
