**The Opportunity:**
WSP is currently seeking a **Civil Engineering Technologist** to join our Land Development and Municipal Engineering Team, located at our Ottawa office. Reporting to a Senior Project Engineer, Team Lead or Manager, this position will be responsible for the execution of a variety of design activities including, preparing AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Bentley Microstation design drawings, technical specifications, quantity and cost estimates for tender and construction for land development and municipal engineering projects. This role will include various field inspections for design conformance reviews and contract administration. The opportunity will have a focus on **local projects within Ottawa and surrounding areas** .

**Weekly Kickoff** :
+ Begins with a team huddle involving Technologists, Project Managers, and Engineers to align on weekly objectives.
**Design Work** :
+ Uses advanced features of AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Bentley Microstation.
+ Crafts detailed design drawings and manipulates 3D models for infrastructure projects.
**Coordination:**
+ Collaborates with other disciplines to ensure seamless integration of project components.
**Site Engagement** :
+ Conducts site inspections to verify construction aligns with design intent.
+ Helps administer active construction projects.
**Technical Contributions:**
+ Drafts plans, prepares specifications, and calculates costs.
+ Supports tangible infrastructure development in the community.

**What you'll bring to WSP:**
+ Graduated from a three (3) year college program in Civil Engineering Technology or an equivalent program;
+ Eligible to obtain Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) designation, or interested in obtaining C.E.T. designation;
+ 1-5 years of engineering design consulting experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Bentley Microstation in a variety of projects (site servicing, grading and road reconstructions would be an asset);
+ Experience with site inspections related to civil works, grading, servicing, utilities, sidewalks, pathways and road reconstructions specifically in the City of Ottawa;
+ Familiarity with working in a BIM/ACC environment is an asset;
+ Knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and Excel applications and Autodesk Civil 3D is required.
+ Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications;
+ Willing to develop a sound knowledge of engineering standards and principals, practices and techniques;
+ Interest in obtaining a comprehensive knowledge of Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications (OPSS) and Ontario Provincial Standard Drawings (OPSD);
+ Strong organizational and problem-solving skills;

**Major Responsibilities:**
+ Provides expert advice, guidance, and subject matter expertise throughout the planning, design, and delivery of municipal infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes and standards.
+ Ensures that municipal design and construction meet technical requirements through comprehensive design reviews, submittal evaluations, and testing. Key responsibilities include:
+ Conducting Facility Alteration Permit (FAP) compliance reviews for proposed upgrades, alterations, maintenance, and new construction to ensure adherence to applicable regulations, codes, standards, and client-specific requirements. This includes assessing the reasonableness of proposed methodologies, criteria, and designs.
+ Providing non-resident engineering expertise through field inspections at various stages of construction.
+ Overseeing municipal servicing and coordinating with City of Ottawa and utilities for site infrastructure, including water, sanitary sewer, stormwater, gas, roads, bridges, underground lift stations, and parking garages. Offers expert guidance on capacity, demand, and the reliability of existing systems.
+ Evaluating alternative technical proposals submitted by contractors and assessing their feasibility and alignment with project requirements.
+ Coordinating the technical aspects of municipal infrastructure engineering within the program, including setting targets and goals.
+ Facilitating integration across engineering and architectural disciplines to ensure seamless coordination of programs, facilities, and assets.
+ Reviewing contractor and designer deliverables to confirm compliance with relevant requirements, codes, and standards.
+ Monitoring the designer's input throughout the construction phase, including RFIs, shop drawings, material approvals, mock-ups, and punch lists.

**Qualifications**
**Minimum Requirements:**
In order to be considered for this position, candidates must possess, at a very minimum:
+ University Degree in civil engineering with a focus on municipal engineering + 6 years of relevant experience in municipal infrastructure design, construction, commissioning, distribution, system protection, and control.
+ Holding Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license in Ontario
+ Holding or ability to receive Secret Level security clearance.
**Preferred Requirements:**
+ Relevant professional designation is considered an asset.
+ 10 years of experience in municipal infrastructure design, construction, commissioning, distribution, system protection, and control. Expertise in capacity planning, future demand assessment, operations, and maintenance of water distribution, sanitary and stormwater management systems. Proficient in environmental engineering principles for major developments, including airport-specific requirements and Canadian aerodrome standards.
+ Extensive knowledge of local, provincial, and federal regulations, codes, and standards related to municipal infrastructure and environmental compliance.
+ Strong expertise in underground servicing, municipal road design, and water resource management principles.
+ Experience in preliminary and final design of roads, bridges, municipal systems, and facilities.
+ Proficient in developing and reviewing servicing, grading, and drainage designs, as well as conducting field inspections to ensure compliance with municipal standards.
+ Hands-on experience with design software, including MicroStation, BIM, AutoCAD, and Bentley InRoads/OpenRoads Designer 3D modeling programs.
+ Knowledge of asset management principles for municipal infrastructure.
+ Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to facilitate meetings and workshops with large groups.

  • Contract specification document preparation including engineering reports and cost estimates 
  • Conduct Site Visits and Inspections and prepare follow-up Reports 
  • Assist with Contract Administration. 
  • Plan, organize and prioritize the project tasks under your responsibility in conjunction with others to maximize productivity and to effectively meet established guidelines 
  • Initiate and follow-up circulation to various agencies and work with appropriate authorities to establish relationships to gain speedy approval acquisition 
  • Mentor junior staff and assist senior staff with a wide variety of assignments 



Skills and Abilities: 

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in design for public and/or private clients 
  • Canadian College diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a related field 
  • High level of expertise in AutoCAD Civil 3D is required 
  • Experience with stormwater and water modeling software 
  • A strong attention to detail and accuracy 
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

POSITION OVERVIEW :
Under the leadership of the Director of Engineering and Projects Team Lead, the Civil Technologist will work within high voltage substations installing secondary oil containments. They will be involved in all phases of projects from quotation and design to the construction and project closing documentation. The Civil Technologist will perform a variety of tasks in office and in the field, which will require travel across north America.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Perform complete project reviews including scope of work (SOW), appropriate volume and cost calculations, execution of schedules (guidance), design review prior to bid and release of  quotations.
  • Conduct on-site visits of installations to ensure quality standards are met and build strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and staff.
  • Provide technical support during the engineering and construction phases of projects.
  • Define project requirements in collaboration with the project team.
  • Ensure final designs, as-built drawings, manuals, and QC documentation are in order prior to shipping, installing, or sending to client.
  • Responsible for having knowledge of all products availability, the product applications, product benefits and pricing structure.
  • Supervise the onsite team and provide hands-on assistance for installation of products and systems.
  • Provide estimates and quotations for jobs as required.
  • Maintains client and company confidence by keeping information confidential and secure.
  • Foster strong business relationships with current cliental and project management groups to answer to the client any engineering issues that may arise.
  • Advise customers on the use and care of products and provide advice concerning specialized products or services.
QUALIFICATIONS :
  • Completion of a college diploma in Civil Engineering
  • Flexibility to travel up to 50% both in and out of the country and must have a valid passport allowing international travel.
  • Must hold a valid Ontario Driver’s License to operate own, company and/or rental vehicle.
  • Professional designation, in process
  • Blueprint reading, and AutoCAD experience is an asset
  • Drug and Alcohol testing as required

**What you'll bring to WSP:**
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline; Master's or PhD preferred.
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario. Registered professional engineer in additional Canadian provinces would be an asset.
- Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in landfill gas engineering.
- Advanced knowledge of landfill gas engineering design and project delivery.
- Experience with completing senior peer review of landfill gas designs.
- Demonstrated leadership on key projects and experience with delivering project excellence.
- Strong seller-doer capable of generating work, creating long-term relationships, and delivering long-term value to clients for WSP.
- Highly collaborative and driven to form internal partnerships.
- An entrepreneurial orientation with a strong understanding of the business development challenges of a consulting services provider.
- Proven ability to lead project teams and manage complex project portfolios. Proven ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams would be an asset.
- Experience in business development and client relationship management.
- Demonstrated ability to influence organizational strategy and drive innovation.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Active membership in relevant industry bodies.

Overview

We are seeking a Process Engineer with extensive hands-on expertise in Downstream chemicals catalytic processes to join the Downstream Operation Engineering Solutions Department (OESD).

OESD's technical team provides high-quality, multi-disciplinary support to GM operating facilities (Refineries, NGLF, and petrochemical plants) within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and globally.

Your primary role is to be responsible for the total catalyst and absorbents management of the process units, including advisory on catalyst selection, performance evaluation & optimization, benchmarking, cost optimization, field technical support and spent catalyst handling.

Key Responsibilities

As a successful candidate, you are expected to be able to perform the following:

  • Review operations of process catalysts and absorbents by monitoring key performance indicators which include but not limited to product yields, deactivation rates, remaining lifecycle, etc. Issue performance and benchmarking reports highlighting any performance gaps and recommendations for optimization.
  • Support process technology engineers onsite in resolving any catalysts and absorbents performance gaps and implementation of optimization initiatives.
  • Be part of the Global Manufacturing technical team in providing technical advisory for catalyst and absorbents technical procurement package optimization, catalyst techno-economic evaluation, selection, and review of performance guarantees in accordance with established company procedures.
  • Support and coordinate with other internal stakeholders, when necessary, on the requirements to conduct catalyst pilot testing activities.
  • Act as pool manager for managing emergency catalyst exchanges between assets, catalyst regeneration, re-use, metal reclamation and spent catalyst monetization in general.
  • Maintain database of Global Manufacturing catalysts and absorbents detailing the technology providers, quantity, next loading forecasts, etc.
  • Develop the hydroprocessing catalyst cascading roadmap across multiple assets in Global Manufacturing to maximize usage of both fresh and regenerated catalysts.
  • Provide field support to catalyst related activities when needed such as loading & unloading, regeneration & rejuvenation, pre-sulfiding & activation, process optimization, and troubleshooting, in collaboration with facility process engineers and other stakeholders.
  • Manage precious metals used in catalysts, including leasing or reclamation processes, for wholly-owned assets and facilitate any metal pool synergy with Affiliates.
  • Support the pilot testing or field demonstration of commercial catalysts and in-house developed catalysts in Saudi Aramco facilities in collaboration with R&D and other corporate technical entities.

Minimum Requirements

As a successful candidate you will hold a:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering. Advanced degree is preferred but not required.
  • A minimum of 17 years of total experience in chemical catalytic units (i.e., hydroprocessing, catalytic cracking, reforming, isomerization, etc) with practical experience in catalysts & absorbents selection, performance evaluation, optimization, troubleshooting, operation, regeneration, and catalyst handling.
  • Exposure to various technology licensors (i.e., UOP, Axens, etc.) is a plus.
  • Experience and proficiency in using process engineering simulation programs and tools
  • Expertise in innovation and intellectual property development is a plus.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills, with ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex operational issues
