**Job Description:**
**3M is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer for its Continuous Improvement (CI) team, located in Brockville, ON.**
_*Successful security clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods Registration program is a mandatory pre-requirement for this position at this location. Please note the following are_ _some (but not all)_ _of the listed requirements for Controlled Goods Clearance:_

**The Impact You'll Make in this Role**
In this role you will be responsible for identifying, analyzing, and implementing improvements in processes and systems to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive initiatives that support the organization's strategic goals.
As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the company. Here, you will make an impact by:
+ Working directly with all teams on improvement projects, running/leading Kaizen events, increasing employee engagement and continuous improvement
+ Leveraging a wide range of improvement techniques, approaches, and methods to develop and implement solutions for a variety of complex issues and operational and financial improvement objectives
+ Developing & improving existing data tools to support the ongoing efforts to identify and control yield, labour productivity, cost, and uptime
+ Applying analytical skills for analysis and interpretation of trends or data for the purpose of improving target operational and/or financial objectives
+ Process Analysis: Evaluate current processes to identify areas for improvement using data analysis and process mapping techniques.
+ Project Management: Lead and manage continuous improvement projects from inception to completion, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business objectives.
+ Collaboration: Work closely with various departments to understand their needs and challenges, facilitating workshops and meetings to brainstorm solutions.
+ Implementation: Develop and implement solutions that streamline operations, reduce waste, and improve quality and productivity.
+ Monitoring: Establish metrics and KPIs to monitor the effectiveness of implemented changes and make adjustments as necessary.
+ Training: Provide training and support to staff on new processes and systems to ensure successful adoption and sustainability.
+ Reporting: Prepare and present reports on project progress, outcomes, and benefits to stakeholders and management.
**Your Skills and Expertise**
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
+ Bachelor's degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
+ Three (3) years of experience in a manufacturing environment, process improvement, and project management in a private, public, goverment or military envriomernt
Additional qualifications and competencies that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
+ Master's degree in Engineering
+ Practical experience with implementation and sustaining of CI Programs
+ Engineering focus in the areas of TPM, Operational Excellence, DMAIC, and Lean tools
+ Ability to prioritize, manage multiple projects and make decisions
+ Strong computer skills - Microsoft Suite and MiniTab
+ Six Sigma Greenbelt certified - Blackbelt a plus
+ Detail-Oriented: an ability to focus on details and ensure accuracy in analysis and implementation.
+ Innovative Thinking: an ability to think creatively and propose innovative solutions to complex problems.
+ Team Player: an ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and build strong relationships.

· In a New Product Introduction environment, d efine, verify, and release mechanical and electrical test requirements specifications, routines, and tooling for the commissioning of new instruments.
· Perform assessment on the fit of parts to assemblies including collaboration with the design team to improve the design to minimize cost and defects. Includes performing Failure Modes and Effects Analysis and developing and qualifying new tools and fixtures.

· Provide Manufacturing Engineering input on proposed design changes and impact to Manufacturing.
The essential requirements of the job include:
· Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering from an accredited University program.
· 5 or more years of related work experience as a Manufacturing Engineer in an R&D environment including assembly, developing and releasing assembly instructions, developing and releasing commissioning test specifications, perform problem solving analysis, perform Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, and process validation.
· Working knowledge of Catia.
· P Eng eligible.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Lead, conduct and participate in root cause analysis and other process troubleshooting activities to support productivity improvements in operations.
  • In cooperation with the QA team, develop validation documentation and implement validation plans, conduct commissioning of new equipment and develop preventative maintenance plans for equipment.
  • Manage vendors and consultants to ensure key deliverables for projects and programs are met and coordinate the execution and implementation of assigned projects.
  • Provide technical expertise during regulatory audits and during training of new employees on equipment
  • Manage product launches on packaging lines by conducting appropriate trials to identify and implement required solutions to enable filling, labelling and capping of products.
  • Author, review, revise, or approve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as required.
  • Participate in site improvement initiatives.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum of 3 - 5 years of progressive experience in the pharmaceutical, beverage, and food industries, with prior process engineering experience .
  • Bachelors Degree in a related engineering field required
  • Prior experience in a cGMP-regulated industry , including knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with environmental regulations and OSHA compliance required

The Manufacturing Engineer will provide engineering support to the manufacturing plant in the areas of work cell design, secondary processing, new equipment, upgrade existing installations and support all aspects of new product development and plant modernization, particularly in the manufacturing area.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide technical support to the manufacturing department in the areas of troubleshooting, process improvement, reduced cycle time, and scrap reduction
  • Provide technical support to the maintenance department in the areas of troubleshooting, training, and reducing maintenance downtime
  • Focuses on optimizing manufacturing performance and supports new products.
  • Provides expertise in executing all aspects of assigned projects, including initial study, design, equipment evaluation and selection
  • Develops and implements capital projects, and provides technical support for the plant, particularly in the areas of mould design, mechanical design and process equipment
  • Identifies, leads and supports cost saving initiatives and equipment standardization
  • Consults with major equipment suppliers in finalizing equipment/system proposals, resolves technical design details and issues purchase orders/contracts on approved projects
  • Validates all major equipment in supplier’s facility to ensure satisfactory performance, prior to shipment
  • Collaborates with production personnel, contractors, and engineering personnel to ensure technical issues are resolved and installations are completed on schedule
  • Provides/creates training manuals for new systems
  • Communicates changes/improvements made to equipment
  • Utilizes ERP as required
  • Supports QMS implementation and ongoing Continuous Improvement

Required Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Applied Science, or Engineering Technologist diploma or 5+ years experience
  • Reads and understands technical drawings, technical bulletins, equipment manuals. Familiar with relevant legislation and standards, including ESA, M.O.L. regulations and CSA safety standards.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, proficient in the English language, and able to lead and influence others.

Your Mission

Job Responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

  • Lead engineering projects from start to finish, ensuring timely completion, budget adherence, and alignment with customer requirements (PPAP and run at rate).
  • Handle tasks across project phases, including timing, concept, feasibility studies, design, construction, and prototype programs.
  • Monitor and follow-up on project progress with leadership to ensure goals are met.
  • Conduct manpower efficiency studies using time and motion analysis, standard data, and other methodologies (e.g., MOST, Cosma CTC charts).
  • Develop line balancing, manpower, and machine charts for flexible and efficient workflows.
  • Support and contribute to continuous improvement projects and initiatives.
  • Work with all departments and customers to design solutions that improve production efficiency, ergonomics, safety, and maintenance.
  • Assist in creating and implementing material handling solutions (e.g., aisle layouts, bin placement, and dunnage assists).
  • Review, monitor, and coordinate tooling design, build, approval process, and capital budgeting.
  • Oversee equipment relocation and installation, ensuring effective integration into the Meadowvale plant.
  • Assist with the setup of preventative maintenance programs for new equipment.
  • Resolve quality concerns and support quick resolution of open issues within the engineering department.
  • Manage and implement customer-approved engineering changes, ensuring accurate part-level communications, physical updates, and process modifications
  • Collaborate with production departments, customers, and vendors to design packaging solutions that optimize efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Review and coordinate custom packaging designs, including the build, approval process, and capital budgets.
  • Prepare and maintain reports, charts, and other documentation for engineering projects.
  • Keep plant layouts updated and support new business quoting processes by offering packaging recommendations and design concepts.
  • Control CAD storage and manage the importing/exporting of CAD data.
  • Create and review GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) specifications for parts and assemblies

Education/Experience:

  • Engineering Degree or Diploma in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a related role within a lean manufacturing environment (preferably automotive).
  • Experience with CAD tools (AutoCAD, NX, Catia, Solidworks) is required.
  • Experience in project management and cost/quote development is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, including man/machine chart development, weld balancing, and operator timing.
  • Knowledge of tooling design for assembly and stamping dies.
  • Familiarity with safety standards (e.g., Z432, Reg 851, Reg 213) is preferred.
  • Experience with engineering analysis tools such as PFMEA, DFMEA, 8D, and quality assurance methodologies.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and basic understanding of AutoCAD.
  • Strong leadership and technical expertise, with a focus on mentoring and guiding junior engineers.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with cross-functional teams, customers, and external suppliers.
  • Ability to lead projects and collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure project success.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.

YOUR DAY TO DAY :
We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer who will be responsible for technical assignments involving maximizing the manufacturability and maintaining timely product flow for the assigned products. The Manufacturing Engineer will implement and maintain efficient manufacturing equipment, processes and procedures; coordinating the introduction of new products into manufacturing, and identifying and solving production related problems, for assigned products.

YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR :

  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining methods, operation sequence and processes in the manufacture or fabrication of parts, components, sub-assemblies, and final assemblies.
  • Interfacing with design engineering in coordinating the release of new products.
  • Estimating manufacturing costs, determining time standards, process qualifications, work instructions, and making recommendations for tooling and process requirements of new and existing product lines.
  • Create and maintaining required documentation for manufacturing processes, process-failure-mode-effects-analysis, value-stream-maps, capacity and utilization studies, time and motion studies, standard work, cycle time analysis, and line balancing.
  • Research and test design ideas to determine feasibility, utilizing lean manufacturing, kaizen, Six Sigma, poka-yoke, and root-cause analysis to formulate and support innovation, corrective actions, and improvements.
  • Develop, evaluate, and improving manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design materials and parts, fabrications processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards.
  • Collaborating with Quality Engineering to monitor product yield, provide product factory / field failure root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.

YOU ARE THE RIGHT PERSON FOR THIS JOB IF YOU HAVE :

  • Bachelor of Applied Science in Engineering – prefer Manufacturing or Electrical Engineering
  • 6-9 years relevant experience
  • Proven knowledge of manufacturing engineering concepts, principles, and theories.
  • In-depth understanding of lean manufacturing principles, TAKT, value-stream-mapping.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to clearly recognize and export information relevant to sound manufacturing engineering design.
