Currently, we are seeking a skilled Patient Care Assistant to join our Integrated Primary Healthcare Team. This position will be a vital member of our team and will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive healthcare services alongside Nurse Practitioners (NPs), who serve as the most responsible provider(s), and the interdisciplinary healthcare team. The Medical Clinic Administrator responsibilities will include assisting with patient care, managing administrative tasks, and facilitating seamless communication within the team. The role will require some evening hours, with vacation aligned with the NP team schedule, and follow TVFHT Health and Safety policies and procedures. This Patient Care Assistant is a new role that will be working on-site with the multi-disciplinary healthcare team and TVFHT’s Operations Department to offer administrative and clinical patient support in a primary care setting.
Requirements, Skills, and Abilities:
Administrative experience in a healthcare setting
Post-Secondary school diploma from a medical assistant program; Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or equivalent preferred.

Job DescriptionThe Georgetown Hospital Emergency Department serves the communities of Halton, Halton Hills, and the surrounding areas. Our ED is a 15-bed unit with a separate Rapid Assessment Fast Track (RAFT) zone. We serve patients of all ages and treat patients of every medical and mental health illness. Last year we served over 39,000 patient visits.
Our 24-hour staff are comprised of nurses, physicians, physician assistants and many other team members of a robust multidisciplinary team. Our team includes a dedicated mental health and internal medicine resources to ensure comprehensive assessments of patients for timely referrals and/or admission.
Qualifications- Current Registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Current Heart & Stroke Approved BLS Provider Card upon hire.
- Previous Emergency Department experience required
- Experience in triage and in-charge responsibilities required
- ACLS certificate required at time of hire and ongoing.
- Completion of an on-site sponsored course is required within one year of hire date
- Successful completion of Canadian Emergency Nursing Certification Exam would be an asset
- Successful completion of post-diploma Emergency courses, e.g. TNCC, ENPC, PALS, would be an asset
- Basic ECG interpretation and 12 lead ECG application and interpretation preferred
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position
- Satisfactory employment and attendance record required

Job DescriptionThe successful incumbent will provide safe, evidence-informed quality nursing care to an acute medical and surgical patient population by combining interpersonal communication with clinical knowledge and skills.
- Ability to function to the full scope of practice as per CNO
- Demonstrate the ability to competently assess the patient, intervene appropriately and evaluate outcomes
- Demonstrate the knowledge, experience and ability to provide care for patients with a variety of needs including but not limited to: initiation and maintenance of IV’s, administration of medication delivered via various routes, blood and blood product administration, patient controlled analgesia, TPN care and maintenance of CVADs, capillary blood glucose monitoring, NG tubes, chest tubes, enteral feeds, wound management, oxygen therapy and tracheostomies
- Be able to provide appropriate care to pre-operative and post-operative patient
- Ability to interpret normal and abnormal telemetry strips
- Ability to interpret normal and abnormal laboratory values with appropriate nursing interventions
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Demonstrate the ability to prioritize and organize the delivery of care in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment
- Demonstrate an understanding of the role of the RN as a member of the interdisciplinary team
- Demonstrate an ability to communicate efficiently, effectively and respectfully to patients, visitors and members of the interdisciplinary team
- Demonstrate a commitment to providing patient-centered and family-centered care
- Demonstrate a commitment to continuing education
- Ability to fulfill the charge role for break coverage and on night shift
- Current Registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Current Heart & Stroke approved Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at time of hire
- Recent medical/surgical experience in an acute care setting required
- Coronary Care I is required within 6 months of hire
- Previous cardiac monitoring experience preferred
- Demonstrates commitment to continuing education
- Preference will be given to those with telemetry experience
- Physical Assessment Course is an asset
- Strong patient assessment skills required
- Ability to prioritize and work efficiently in a rapidly changing environment
- Team player with strong public relations and organizational skills
- Caring, compassionate, customer focused attitude towards patients and families
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of this position
- Satisfactory employment and attendance record
Additional Information
Hours: Monday to Sunday; various rotating 12 hour shifts. (Hours are subject to change based on operational needs)
Salary: $40.24 to $57.68 per hour
