- Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) perioperative nursing certification/Completion of a post-secondary educational institution perioperative nursing program/Equivalent in education and experience.
- Ability to perform consistently in a highly organized, rapid moving, complex environment.
- Ability to collaborate within the expectations of a highly complex integrated team.
- Ability to wear lead apron protection for an extended period of time.
- The ability to cope and effectively perform in stressful and/or emergent situations is essential.
Physical Requirements:
- The work environment can be very physically demanding and may require different levels of physical exertion, such as lifting and transferring patients.
- Must be able to lift/push/pull more than 25 pounds.
- At times, operating room nurses may work in challenging and stressful circumstances, such as in an emergency situation.

- 2-4 years' recent experience in an acute care setting in the operating room/ambulatory care environment that includes but not limited to assisting, scrubbing/circulating in the operating room, and ambulatory services
- Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) perioperative nursing certification preferred. Completion of a recognized operating room course or a combination of education and experience.
- Ability to work independently within the surgical/ambulatory services environment to maintain patient flow
- Demonstrated knowledge of surgical/ambulatory procedures (including set up) and the continuum of care for the surgical patient that includes the pre-intra-post operative patient experience
- Must be capable to set up and care for minor and major surgical procedures and anticipate the needs of patients and physicians
- Proven motivation to pursue educational goals
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a highly skilled interdisciplinary team
- Implement plan of care including independent and interdependent nursing functions
- Assessing and understanding the unique needs of the surgical patients
- Strong proficiency and willingness to work at the full scope of practice (as outlined by CRNM)

Responsibilities:
- Deliver appropriate patient care pre-operatively, intra-operatively and post-operatively
- Follow ORNAC standards and act in accordance with the facilitys policies and procedures
- Work collaboratively as an integral member of an operating room team and effectively use appropriate communication channels to disseminate information
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families, co-workers, physicians, and other health care personnel
- Perform scrubbing and circulating duties
Qualifications:
- Graduate of a recognized nursing program
- Current BCCNP licence and in good standing
- Completion of a recognized advanced nursing specialty program in operating room nursing, or two years of recent, related experience in an acute care operating room environment
- Enjoy working in a fast-paced environment
- Communicate effectively both verbally and written
- Ideally, the candidate should have 2 years of ophthalmology experience although we will provide training.
- Have periooperative certification
- Current CPR level HCP (within last 2 years)
