Zurich Canada is currently looking for a Portfolio Manager to join our Alternative Risk Solutions team.
Reporting to the Head of Portfolio Management, you will: provide portfolio insights and market intelligence to the management and underwriting teams using a combination of dashboarding and analytics tools. **What you will do**
+ **Portfolio Reporting**
+ Lead technical business requirements and stakeholder management with IT to industrialize internal reporting and analytics.
+ Provide in depth review of Program, MGA, or portfolio book roll opportunities to understand exposures, limits, portfolio mix on new and renewal business.
+ Direct portfolio consultants as they develop dashboards and reporting tools; lead others with business and technical expertise.
+ Codify underwriting guidelines and create automated rulesets to ensure broker and MGA compliance (line limits, minimum deductibles, SIC, deviation authority) utilizing data platform.
+ Create presentations for senior stakeholders to share key portfolio insights, management action plans, and new and renewal business opportunities.
+ Develop dashboard tools to monitor portfolio KPIs like retention, portfolio mix, and rate adequacy.
+ **Financial Planning and Management**
+ Build and maintain financial forecasting tools to determine top and bottom-line projections.
+ Work with business stakeholders to drive accountability of results and to inform senior stakeholders on execution of plan targets.
+ **Rate Execution**
+ Provide business and market insights to the actuarial team to develop actuarial assumptions.
+ Work with actuaries, underwriters, and management to translate actuarial indications into rating strategies, rating segmentation, and rating tools.
+ Monitor portfolio rate adequacy and rate changes. Deliver segmented insights for execution of actuarial indications.
+ **Underwriting Strategies**
+ Provide performance analysis on Programs to broker partners, customers, and executive stakeholders as part of new, renewal, and half-year performance updates.
+ Work with underwriters and management to develop underwriting strategies and guidelines (e.g., deductibles, SIRs, referral triggers) that ensure sustainable profitability and operational efficiencies.
+ **Claims Insights**
+ Manage stakeholder relationships with claims analytics and complex claims adjusters to unlock claim insights. Expand claims analytics relationship to get better insights on impact of claims operational metrics on program and portfolio performance - e.g. time to close, severity/frequency trends, CAT insights
+ Monitor and review large losses for portfolio-level trends. Work alongside underwriting, claims, and risk services team to share large loss learnings with broader organization.
+ Monitor attritional loss trends to diagnose performance drivers (e.g., theft, water damage) and enable proactive action plans.
+ **Accumulation Management**
+ Monitor and proactively manage accumulation risk across the portfolio utilizing insights from Zurich's CAT management tools.
+ Maintain accumulation data integrity by resolving operational and underwriting data issues.
+ Provide accumulation insights into new and renewing programs that allow for better pricing segmentation and rating optimization.
+ Assist in developing submission materials and presentations for reinsurance treaties.
**Job Accountabilities - What you bring to the table**
**Required:**
- 7+ years of industry experience in insurance, financial services, and / or consulting.
- Strong financial acumen - be able to understand P&L statements and drivers of line items.
- Understanding of advanced insurance and reinsurance concepts.
- Ability to craft a strong narrative and storyline using charts, graphs, and visual tools.
- Self-organizing and structured thinker. Capable of following, adapting, and creating organizational frameworks.
**Preferred:**
- Advanced PowerPoint, Advanced Excel, data analysis, and data presentations skills.
- Programing and / or automation skills in SQL, Python, R, Databricks
- Able to work independently, navigate uncertainty, and own actions through their resolution.
- Ability to influence others and to manage sophisticated stakeholders and relationships.
- Capable of managing multiple competing priorities across short and medium-term project windows.
- Recognize emerging problems and proactively manage their solutions.
- Resourceful and able to solve problems collaboratively.
- Can work well under pressure.

Portfolio Management
  • Assist in all aspects of equity, FX, treasury, collateral, and cash management for the ETFs;

  • Monitor portfolio exposures, performance attribution, and risk metrics;

  • Maintain and enhance trading strategies, tools, and processes.

Compliance & Oversight
  • Ensure adherence to portfolio guidelines, investment restrictions, and regulatory requirements (e.g. NI 81-102);
  • Assist with internal compliance checks, audits, and reporting;
  • Run daily reports and identify/resolve trading-related issues;
  • Liaise with ETF Accounting & Operations and Compliance teams to resolve discrepancies.

Other Ad hoc Responsibilities
  • Contribute to process improvements for portfolio operations and trading workflows;
  • Optimize the firm’s trading systems through automation;
  • Support technology initiatives, including portfolio management system enhancements;
  • Conduct market research to support investment strategies and product development;
  • Assist the portfolio management team in maintaining and analyzing industry data to support portfolio construction and fundamental research;
  • Provide insights on competitor products, industry trends, and trading innovations;
  • Support the preparation of marketing materials, investor presentations, or any other material required to support the Sales team.

Here’s what you’ll need to be successful:
  • Registration as an Advising Representative (Portfolio Manager) with the Ontario Securities Commission;
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in finance, economics, mathematics, or related discipline;
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in portfolio management, trading, or investment operations (ETF experience preferred);
  • Strong proficiency with Bloomberg, Excel, and portfolio management systems;
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian securities regulations and ETF structures;
  • Self-motivated and directed;
  • Strong technical and analytical skills;

  • Maintain close regular communication with the sales team in weekly meetings plus work-withs (as applicable) to ensure program development and P.O.S. is targeted, relevant and fresh
  • Pitch new products and marketing programming to the LCBO Category Managers for new listings and image programs
  • Preparing Monthly Sales Reviews including proposing mitigation activities for when we are tracking off plan

Brand Planning & Execution:

  • Manage annual brand planning, forecasting and A&P budgeting for all brands in ON; lead quarterly A&P reviews to stay within brand budgets and re-allocate funds as needed in order to maximize market activity;
  • Measure and report on quarterly marketing programming
  • Work closely with logistics to ensure inventory is available for programmed skus
  • Manage quarterly sales presentations and sales materials, while updating master spending plans in PAWA to ensure programming is up-to-date and executed on-time;
  • Cooperative development and planning with Ontario marketing team and sales management for brand plans, marketing applications, supplier and key account presentations, promotional materials, and sales tools, that meet AWSM standards, are complete and delivered on time; at the direction of Sales Manager
  • Prepare quarterly meeting presentation to motivate and inspire the activities of the sales force in relation to marketing initiatives
  • Propose quarterly goals and targets in tandem with Sales Managers, review portfolio opportunities and new product options
  • Communicate with suppliers as the main point of contact to review day-to-day issues and provide regular brand updates

Management/Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate and current data and systems within PAWA and PowerBI; create and monitor forecasts and spending plans in PAWA; manage expenses and promotional budgets within company guidelines
  • Oversee supplier itineraries, working with Sales/Marketing Coordinator and Sales Management to plan supplier in-market activities;
  • Manage expenses and any promotional spending within company guidelines.



Job Requirements:

  • Experience: University degree (BCom preferred) in Marketing or equivalent discipline and/or minimum of 3-4 years sales or marketing experience with a large wine/spirits portfolio or other important consumer products. You will have a portfolio of examples of your work to date.
  • Skills: Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be highly organized and display excellent motivation and leadership abilities. You should be prepared to provide examples of your written work. You must have great PC skills (Windows: Word/Excel) and be able to extensively use the CH/AWSM web-based applications for sales and planning activities. Must be able to juggle multiple situations and be self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Knowledge: Working knowledge of the marketing of wine/spirits or of an important consumer brand. Successful completion of several wine and spirit courses is desirable (such as WSET).
  • Physical: Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and travel (includes overnight stays). Must be physically fit and be able to lift and carry 41+ pounds and able to build displays or handle heavy POS material.
  • Other: Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers license in the Province employed and must meet the Companys automobile insurance requirements. Must have and maintain a valid Passport.



Other Preferred Job Qualifications: Existing marketing trade relationships within the wine, spirit, hospitality industry. Minimum 3-5 years marketing experience overall. Membership in a professional marketing association.


Base salary commensurate with experience plus incentive bonus. Business related expenses are also covered.

We are an established wealth management and investment publishing firm with 25+ years experience in subscription marketing and independent portfolio management with assets under management verging on $1 billion and growing. Successful Investor Wealth Management (SIWM) is currently seeking a Portfolio Manager who specializes in Client Relationship Management.

We are transforming our business and experiencing significant growth and as a result SIWM is looking for an investment professional with strong relationship management skills who will provide high quality service to clients and contribute to the continued growth of the organization.

With the objective of growing and diversifying the client base, the ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of capital markets and be able to articulate SIWMs investment process and philosophy. Conducting a thorough assessment of each clients goals, objectives, and risk tolerance from which an appropriate investment strategy is developed is key to the role. As the organization puts more emphasis on value-added services such as retirement planning, tax and family financial planning, a high level of comfort with these value-added services will be important.

To achieve the above-mentioned goals, the candidate will be the primary point of contact on most portfolios. The selected candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills that will allow quick building of strong bonds of trust with SIWMs private clientele. The candidate will be self-sustaining, self-sufficient, and proactive but at the same time a team player able to evolve in a collegial environment and foster collaboration.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop a relationship of trust with existing and future clients of SIWM and be their primary point of contact.
  • Manage, maintain, and enhance SIWMs relationships with its clients.
  • Thoroughly assess each clients unique circumstances, goals, objectives, risk tolerances and constraint.
  • Effectively communicate SIWMs investment philosophy and strategy as well as understanding and articulating our investment thesis on a sector and individual security basis.
  • Coordinate and oversee the administrative aspects of the client relationship and ensure high quality and accuracy of information.
  • Responsible for Know Your Client and suitability issues.
  • Conduct all activities within a best-in-class culture of compliance and service.
  • Seek opportunities to cross-sell or upsell to existing clients.
  • Grow the business by identifying new sales and business development opportunities.
  • Monitor and assess the activities of our competitors to proactively satisfy and retain our clients.
  • Provide excellent service to maintain a positive reputation for the business.
  • Resolve any client complaints promptly and professionally.
  • Communicate with clients who express a desire to transfer their assets out to understand their reasons and make every effort to retain their valued business.
  • Participate in and contribute to SIWMs overall growth and strategic vision as well as building the firm brand.
  • Accomplish department objectives.
  • Planning and evaluating department activities.
  • Manage daily operations of a small customer service team.

REQUIREMENTS (Qualifications, Experience & Skills)

  • University Degree.
  • Completion of the Canadian Securities Course required.
  • Registered with Securities Commissions as a Portfolio Manager (Advising Representative); CFA preferred.
  • Experience with suitability determinations for clients and know-your-product analysis.
  • 5 years experience with at least 3 years in a client-facing role.
  • The Certified Financial Planner designation or similar credentials would be an asset.
  • Ability to build, foster and maintain positive professional relationships.
  • Devotion to high-quality customer service.
  • A team player with excellent communication skills, computer proficiency and high level of professionalism.
  • Be able to meet targets and handle a high-pressure environment.
