**For a full list of opportunities, visit** ** role will be responsible for supporting Sysco Canada’s Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) programs to ensure compliance with relevant provincial and federal regulations and coordinating various EHS administrative functions to achieve EHS objectives.

**Role Responsibilities:**

**EHS Compliance & Risk Management**

- Assists regional and site management in executing and maintaining EHS programs and plans.
- Conducts facility inspections to identify and address potential safety hazards, collaborating with site teams to implement corrective actions.
- Maintains accurate records for safety programs, including training logs, reports, and inspections.
- Advocates for a zero-incident safety culture and drive continuous improvement in health and safety performance.
- Supports the execution of Sysco’s Emergency Preparedness Plan, ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Assists in reporting of EHS Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

**Incident Investigation & Regulatory Compliance**

- Participates in incident investigations, including vehicle collisions and workplace injuries, assisting in root cause analysis and corrective action development.
- Serves as a liaison with regulatory agencies (OSHA, DOT, EPA, and state/local regulators) in the EHS Lead’s absence.
- Assists in implementing Sysco’s annual EHS training plan.
- Educates and enforces company EHS policies and procedures consistently.

**Training & Employee Engagement**

- Conducts new hire orientation training and other safety programs as assigned by the EHS Lead.
- Delivers EHS training for employees and supervisors to ensure compliance with company policies and regulations.
- Provides training to supervisors and management on root cause analysis and incident prevention strategies.
- Engages colleagues in safe work practices and ensures adherence to established safety procedures.
- Performs observations and coaching for high-risk colleagues to reinforce safe behaviors.
- Fosters a proactive safety culture, promoting awareness and accountability across all levels of the organization.

**Leadership & Communication**

- Builds and maintains strong interdepartmental relationships to support safety initiatives.
- Applies problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills to enhance workplace safety programs.
- Demonstrates leadership and professionalism, acting as a key driver of change in EHS initiatives.
- Maintains open communication with colleagues, monitor morale, and provide feedback to leadership as needed.

- Complies with Sysco’s Food Safety Policy and procedures to ensure food safety, quality and legality requirements are met.

**Qualifications/Skills/Job Requirements (About you):**

- Two or more years with direct hands-on safety experience in a warehousing, manufacturing, or transportation operation.
- Two or more years experience with occupational safety preferred.
- Associate degree and/or a minimum two years of safety experience with OSHA certifications.
- Has attained or is working towards certification as a recognized safety professional.
- Strong interest in safety with a proven record of results.
- Knowledge of provincial and municipal EHS and WCB requirements and industry standards/best practices (i.e. acts, regulations, codes, standards, and case law) is an asset.
- The ability to drive a strong safety philosophy and implement constructive behavior changes in Operations safety.

**ABOUT THE ROLE**
The Health & Safety Coordinator will help to support the regional Health & Safety Manager and regional business team in implementation of health and safety management systems and processes. In this role, you will provide health and safety guidance to the operations to help the region comply with Amrize Standards, Country level policies, and jurisdictional regulations. Serving as a strategic business partner, you will provide technical subject matter expertise and guidance on hazard recognition and risk mitigation controls through active engagement with front line leaders and workers. This role works out of our Edmonton Ellwood office.
**WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH**
+ Provide direct health and safety coaching to the operational site level leadership, and safety committee representatives and embedded safety personnel
+ Assist with facilitation and coordination of training including annual startups, supervisor seminars, Visual Personal Commitment, Boots on the Ground program, etc.
+ Perform risk assessments and develop safe work procedures for regional and country purposes, and provide guidance and support to operations to meet OHS and company expectations.
+ Assist with serious incident investigations including recordable injuries, near misses, critical incidents, and help the company comply with OHS inspections and potential orders.
+ Plan, coordinate, and conduct annual COR audits, support regional operations in preparation for company Health, Safety, Environment Management System (HSEMS) audits, develop action plans for continuous improvement, and participate in North America HSEMS audits identifying compliance gaps against company health and safety standards.
+ Support HS Manager and regional operations in development and implementation of H&S priorities, guidance documents, key lessons learned, best practices, policies, and assist in implementation of both country and regional HSE-IP objectives.
+ Support and guide regional operations in claim management and injury prevention, and assist with utilization of internal reporting tools to meet country reporting requirements.
+ Support regional operations in implementation and maintenance of programs such as SiteDocs, iCare, Avetta, etc.
+ Assist in developing and sharing regional communications to all stakeholders including key lessons, best practices, alerts, and KPIs.
+ Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
**WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR**
**Education:** Post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree
**Field of Study Preferred:** Occupational Health & Safety
**Required Work Experience:** 3-5 years working experience as a health & safety professional, preferably in the construction industry

What You’ll Do – The Role (Responsibilities)

What You Need (Requirement)

  • Post-secondary degree in Health and Safety or equivalent strongly preferred.
  • Related professional certification is an asset.
  • 4-5 years of similar industry experience required.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certificate is an asset.
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation in ON, AB, and BC.
  • Field safety auditing and investigation experience required.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, ability to influence, and customer service skills.

  • Engages in the development and enhancement of Safe Work Practices and Job Hazard Assessments
  • Acquires basic knowledge of site safety program, emergency response, fire control systems and personal protective equipment and is able to convey these to project team members & contractors
  • Conducts facility inspections and safety audits on a regular basis to monitor safe work practices and procedures, prepares inspection reports and ensures corrective action is taken when deficiencies are identified
  • Collaborates with the Project Manager and Safety Manager to ensure health and safety programs meet legislative compliance

Qualifications
  • 3+ years’ experience in a full-time Health and Safety role
  • Underground utilities experience experience is preferred
  • Accreditation as a National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) or Construction Safety Officer (CSO)
  • Related post-secondary Health & Safety degrees, diplomas and certification are an asset
  • Confident in taking take action and able to adhere to timelines
  • Outstanding communication skills and confident interacting with key contacts in verbal, written and electronic form

**What will your typical day look like?**
+ Provide EHS technical support for site operations management on various EHS initiatives and projects;
+ Ensure compliance with all environmental permitting and reporting requirements at our Foundry operation with support to two (2) other manufacturing locations in the region;
+ Ensure compliance with all injury and illness record-keeping requirements;
+ Initiate and influence integration of EHS policies and practices;
+ Facilitate the implementation of the Wabtec Management System and other procedures to ensure regulatory and business-level compliance while driving ownership with the site operations team(s);
+ Develop and maintain general knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements;
+ Assist consultants and contractors on related EHS issues and ensure they are certified to conduct work on site;
+ Co-ordinate all Industrial Hygiene programs such as air testing requirements, medical surveillance, etc.
+ Prepare presentations of best practices, near misses, accidents, etc., to be communicated to other Wabtec facilities and EHS leadership;
+ Administer compliance tracking programs and record-keeping systems;
+ Facilitate and develop training for factory personnel on Wabtec and Regulatory-required training material
+ Work with all members of the local Joint Health & Safety Committee and Site Management on all safety concerns, improvements and changes in EHS policies and procedures;
+ Initiate and coordinate improvement activities such as group discussions, kaizens and investigations in order to progress towards completion of open EHS items;
+ Manage projects related to EHS as they may require internal resources and/or contractors. This will also involve application and coordination of Capital Expenditure projects.
+ Develop an internal audit or inspection program related to EHS to ensure compliance with local regulatory requirements as well as Wabtec internal requirements;
+ Perform periodic evaluations to ensure compliance with environmental permits, plans, policies and/or other regulatory requirements.

Reporting directly to the Safety Manager, the Health and Safety Coordinator plays a key role in driving a culture of safety excellence across our projects. In this position, you will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of our Health and Safety Management System, ensuring it aligns with our company’s strong commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.

You will work closely with Project Management teams to ensure that each project’s safety plan is not only aligned with corporate policy but also tailored to meet the specific regulatory and operational requirements of each site. Your proactive approach and expertise will help foster a safe, compliant, and productive work environment.

Must posses the ability to negotiate the terrain of an in-process construction site, including climbing stairs and ladders, steep/ slippery terrain, walking, and working outdoors in all types of Edmonton weather and conditions. Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. This position may require travel to various project sites

# **Main Responsibilities**

**Responsibilities:**

- Advises and guides the most senior construction site representative in the establishment and management of MIP HSE processes, identifying and eliminating/controlling any hazards to persons and property.
- Attend meetings as requested (e.g., MIP, contractor, client). Communicate pertinent information to MIP Safety Manager and other stakeholders as needed.
- Utilize safety management software to document incidents (including proactive events), meetings, inspections, orientations, observations, and corrective actions.
- Conduct inspections as requested.
- Review contractor documentation associated with work activities to confirm a proper hazard assessment has been completed and required permits are in place.
- Engage managers and supervisors in the risk assessment process for new or modified work activities.
- Participate in the development and/or review of SWP/SJP/AHA as requested.
- Provide safety orientations (as needed) to personnel, including MIP employees, subcontractors, vendors and visitors.
- Oversee provision and documentation of first aid treatment and communication to appropriate personnel when applied.
- Guide supervisors with conducting incident investigations to ensure the identification of root causes and corrective actions.
- Complete prequalification of potential subcontractors and review of safety plans prior to mobilization.
- Develop and/or provide training materials to workers as requested.
- Maintain active and visible involvement using open communication with employees and stakeholders regarding HSE issues on the project.
- Aid as requested with internal or external audits and corrective action plans.
- Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate or assigned by MIP Safety Manager.

**Requirements:**

- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related field (or equivalent experience)
CRSP and NCSO designation required
- Five plus years of related work experience in the field of Health and Safety in a construction or light rail
- Thorough knowledge of Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations, Codes and reporting procedures, as well as good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Vaid class 5 or higher driver’s license, preferably with a clean drivers abstract
- Must be able work rotating nights, weekends during construction season
- Must be able to work outdoors, all types of Edmonton weather and negotiate the terrain of an in-process construction worksite including steep and/or slippery terrain and climbing stairs and ladders
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

The role of the Site Health and Safety Coordinator implements the activities planned by the Health and Safety Department for the project. Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, their objective is to support field personnel on the construction site and ensure compliance with provincial laws and regulations as well as the company's prevention program. They have the authority to terminate any activity deemed dangerous to the health and safety of people on the project.

Hold a Health and Safety Coordinator (CoSS) diploma;
Have excellent knowledge of federal, provincial, and municipal health and safety laws and regulations;
Have good computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.);
High geographic mobility very important;
Hold a valid driver's license;
Ability to work in a team and communicate both verbally and in writing;
Autonomy and leadership;
Excellent team management skills and conflict resolution methods;
High administrative rigor;

What you will do to complete this mission successfully:
Ensure compliance with: Occupational health and safety laws and regulations;
Prevention programs for contractors, project managers, Borea, and subcontractors.
Conduct regular inspections to:

Identify non-compliant or unsafe situations;

Inform the superintendent of risks and hazards;

Require that appropriate preventive measures be implemented;

Ensure timely implementation;

Provide updates to the superintendent regarding changes.
Ensure high-quality H&S management meetings:

Welcome/orientation, site committee, safety breaks, and special meetings, if necessary.
Investigate accidents, incidents, or near misses that could have had significant consequences:

Complete required reports;

Determine causes;

Inform the superintendent and project manager;

Identify preventive measures;

Ensure the implementation of corrective actions and follow up;

Report to the superintendent, coordinator, and/or health and safety director as needed;

Accurate and timely data entry;
Require operating/compliance certificates for heavy equipment and/or lifting devices;
Receive inspectors with respect, support them, and offer them full cooperation;
Perform any other related tasks.
