We are looking for System Administrator to manage and provide technical service delivery to all IT & Managed Services internal and external customers.

This hybrid position requires commuting to our Toronto office three days a week.



Responsibilities:
  • Design, deploy, and maintain IT infrastructure, including servers (physical and virtual), operating systems, and storage solutions for Managed Services clients.
  • Ensure server availability, reliability, security and performance through proactive monitoring.
  • Plan and execute system updates, including operating system upgrades, maintenance fixes, and vendor patches for Windows environments using BigFix and WSUS.
  • Implement, test, and maintain disaster recovery plans and backup strategies to safeguard data and minimize downtime in the event of system failures.
  • Lead or contribute to infrastructure projects, from planning and design to implementation and maintenance.
  • Maintaining and auditing inventory of installed software, hardware, and components on the IT Asset Management system.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of the IT infrastructure, including logical diagrams, server configurations, and security protocols in compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and internal IT policies.
  • Generate and maintain compliance reports for patching and system updates as required by clients.
  • Support hybrid cloud infrastructure and ensure seamless integration between on-site and cloud-based systems
  • Participate in onboarding new Managed Services clients by reviewing current infrastructure and identifying opportunities for standardization or automation.
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors and service providers to implement new technologies, troubleshoot issues, and perform upgrades or patches as necessary.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and provide recommendations to enhance the company’s growing needs and infrastructure capabilities.
  • Respond to and resolve infrastructure-related incidents promptly as per the SLAs
  • Identify root causes of recurring issues and implement long-term fixes.
  • Support data center and server room operations, ensuring adherence to established processes and procedures.
  • Communicate technical information effectively to non-technical operational users
  • Provide afterhours support based on the scheduled rotation

Requirements:

  • Education & Experience: University degree/diploma in Computer Science/Information Technology or an equivalent education program, with 8+ years of relevant IT experience.
  • Server and OS Expertise: Strong experience managing Microsoft Windows Server and Linux Server environments in physical and virtual infrastructure.
  • Patching & Compliance: In-depth experience with server patching, using WSUS/SCCM/BigFix. Expertise in Microsoft Windows Server, Linux Server, VMware, and file services (DFS, NFS, CIFS).
  • Automation Skills: Proficiency with automation languages such as PowerShell or Python

  • Backup and Recovery: Proficiency in backup and recovery processes, with experience using Rubrik or Veeam.
  • Storage and Networking: Knowledge of SAN/NAS storage technologies and networking protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and FTP/SFTP.
  • Data Centre operations Knowledge: Experience with server deployments, tape handling, copper and fiber cabling in data center environments is beneficial.
  • Travel Requirements: Occasional travel to data centers within the Greater Toronto Area.

ABOUT THE ROLE  
The System Administrator is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures are followed. These activities include the support of I.T. staff in executing, testing and rolling out of solutions.

This individual is accountable for the following systems, including servers and desktops that support parking related I.T. Infrastructure; Windows Active Directory, Application, patching, provisioning and system monitoring that support the Authority I.T. infrastructure. Responsibilities on these systems include provisioning, backups, patching, support and maintenance.

RESPONSIBILITIES

System and Network Installation, Configuration and Monitoring

  • Configuration of related solutions for various projects and operational needs.
  • Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with TPA standards and project/operational requirements.
  • Monitor, implement, and maintain network infrastructure across all corporate offices and parking facilities.
  • Maintain routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and VPN connections.
  • Monitor network performance, troubleshoot connectivity issues, and optimize traffic flow.
  • Maintain network security through firewall management, intrusion detection, and access controls.
  • Coordinate with ISP and telecommunications providers for MPLS, SD WAN connectivity and cellular communications.
  • Perform daily system monitoring for assigned I.T systems, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
  • Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary.
System Security
  • Respond to security monitoring alerts to validate possible intrusions and escalate to manager.
  • Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
  • Responsible for maintaining Antivirus system and Endpoint Firewalls
  • Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary.
  • Create, change, and delete user accounts per request.
Internal Support
  • Provide Level 2 support, and escalation for Level 1 I.T. staff, in the investigation and troubleshooting issues in various I.T. systems.
  • Provide Level 1 support for Technicians, to escalate problems with parking technology.
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.
  • Provide Level 1 support for Mobile handhelds and printers.
  • Interpret and/or discuss information with others, which involves terminology or concepts not familiar to many people; regularly provide advice and recommend actions involving rather complex issues. May resolve problems within established practices.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • 3-year college diploma in the field of computer science or information systems.
  • 3-5 years related work experience managing or implementing parking revenue control systems.
  • 3-5 years of proven experience in IT infrastructure, system administration and parking technology. Technical knowledge of current network, operating systems, hardware, protocols, and standards.
  • Experience with Parking Technology is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability in solving I.T. issues and problems.
  • Demonstrated integrity in dealing with information and issues of a highly confidential and sensitive nature.
  • Diligent, detail-oriented, and possess a success-driven work ethic.
  • Demonstrates commitment to environment, health & safety: manages risks to protect the health and safety of employees and the public.

Purpose of Position:

The Fastfrate Group is looking for a systems administrator for our Woodbridge, Ontario location. Reporting to the IT Systems Manager, the systems administrator will work with other IT team members to provide day-to-day administration of the company’s computing platforms in a hybrid in-house/cloud hosted environment.  The candidate will also participate in planning, deployment, and other systems management activities. 

This is a full-time position, on site during regular business hours for most work, with the potential for hybrid work depending on the tasks and projects.  There will be rotating weekends where the systems administrator may be on call for emergencies and there will be times when system upgrades and changes will require after-hours or weekend work.  The candidate must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and be willing to learn and adapt to new technologies within the company.

This job has a structured hybrid work model with 2-3 days per week in the office after the probationary period, plus one on-call weekend day per month.
 

Key Accountabilities:
  • Manage the company server IT infrastructure (hardware and OS configurations)
  • Server capacity monitoring and planning (including virtual servers) and Azure based cloud platforms
  • Management and support of remote desktop/terminal services
  • Setup and administer server virtualization solutions (VMWare, Hyper-V)
  • Configure and administer Active Directory, GPO , Office 365
  • Configure and maintain email platforms (Office 365 as well as Microsoft Exchange)
  • Configure and maintain Endpoint Security/Protection servers, end point management, patches, vulnerabilities and updates

Qualifications:

  • University degree or Technical College certificate in a computer-related field.
  • 3-5 years’ experience as a Systems Administrator in a Microsoft environment.
  • Experience in the Transportation and/or Logistics industry is preferred.

Required Skills:

  • Solid experience supporting MS Active Directory, MS Windows, and MS Azure.

Supervision: 

The Systems Administrator will report directly to the Manager of Information Technology. While this role is largely self-directed, the Systems Administrator is expected to work collaboratively with other members of the IT department and cross-functional teams. Supervisory responsibilities may include overseeing the work of junior IT staff or interns as needed, providing guidance and mentorship to enhance their professional development and ensure alignment with departmental goals.
 

Decision Making and Judgment:

This role requires a high level of independent decision making and judgment, especially in the areas of system configuration, troubleshooting, and proactive maintenance. The IT Systems Administrator must assess and prioritize system issues and user requests to ensure stable and secure operations. Decisions regarding the deployment of new technologies or upgrades, as well as responses to potential security threats, must be made considering organizational impact, cost, and benefit. Regular consultation with the IT Systems Manager and relevant stakeholders is essential for strategic decisions. Impact of Errors:
Errors in this role can have significant impacts, including system downtime, data loss, security breaches, and financial costs.
