**Sony Imageworks Vancouver is seeking Animators!**
Creates animated characters and objects that meet required direction. Artist must possess ability to animate both primary and secondary characters by utilizing traditional methods and computer graphics systems to create desired performance of digital characters within a shot. Emphasis should be placed on conveying emotion through a combination of body language and facial expressions/ dialog as required by each specific project. Accountable for meeting schedules and show deadlines, participates in dailies, rounds and team reviews of work in progress. Interacts with production, supervisors and team/ peers in order to problem solve and share information related to show/ assigned tasks. Must be able to decipher as well as follow through on shot turnovers, dailies, briefings/ notes and feedback. Successful candidates should be able to work efficiently as part of a team or independently to determine the various design solutions. Able to animate multiple types of shots from simple to moderately difficult.
**Qualifications:**
Possess a strong understanding of the principles of animation. Knowledge of applicable software packages including Maya required. Background or experience in fine art which shows a thorough understanding of physical motion, weight, balance and form highly desired. Knowledge of human and animal anatomy as well as life drawing skills are desirable. Most desired 2 year diploma or 1 year certificate however minimal requirement of 2-3 years of relevant experience may be accepted.
The anticipated base salary for an Associate position is $26.44 to $6.32/hr and for an Intermediate position is 32.02 to 43.99/hr. The Role:

Working in close collaboration with the Production Staff, the Senior Animator will create top-notch animations and bring creatures, characters, objects and vehicles to life according to the project vision outlined by the Lead and/or Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Working with the Production Staff to provide animated sequences that align with the Client’s vision and the project brief as outlined by the Supervisor.
  • Ability to animate in various styles (creatures, realistic humans, motion capture, vehicles, complex characters, objects, cameras, etc.) as required on assigned project(s)
  • Sufficient capability in Mocap cleanup and 3D rotomation for FX
  • Proficiency with animation software (Maya) for visual effects-intensive projects
  • Other miscellaneous duties as required from time to time by the Animation and CG Supervisor

Your Track Record:

  • 5 years of professional experience in VFX and Animation for Films and TV
  • Expert knowledge of traditional animation principles for Hard Surface and Character Animation.
  • Strong knowledge of animation rigging/set-up and 3D character animation
  • Expert knowledge of Maya
  • Strong understanding of scene layout to match plates
  • Excellent artistic skill set with a full understanding of animation and a strong sense of composition
  • Knowledge of the software and hardware used in the post-production process
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the Visual Effects and associated pipelines

THE ROLE: MOTION GRAPHICS DESIGNER


JOB OVERVIEW

Motion Graphics Designers design and animate Fantasy User Interface(FUI) elements for on-set playback on Film and Television productions. This position works closely with Key Creatives in a fast paced and focused production environment. Motion Graphics Designers are required to both work on teams and individually, to conceptualize, communicate, and execute design ideas quickly. This is an in-office position with a remote work component as needed based on changing health and safety protocols. This position reports to the Playback Producer and Key Creatives.



DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES ARE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Create robust, technically solid Motion Graphic sequences for Playback and Post that clearly, artfully and efficiently communicate the story points in a given scene or brief.
  • Read and interpret scenes to better address each creative brief.
  • Conceptualize and build original designs and FUI systems.
  • Make use of pre-existing visual elements and design systems to develop concepts.
  • Research visual reference material to drive design process forward.
  • Innovate new uses to enhance existing systems
  • Iterate design and animation passes quickly and address any notes from Key Creatives.
  • Prepare graphics to technical specifications and quality control standards.
  • Provide clear and concise documentation when necessary on how to use published motion graphics builds.
  • Work within tight timelines to complete graphics and ensure production deadlines are met.

Job Description

As a Cinematic Animator, you will be responsible for providing animations of characters (body and facial), cameras and objects, in line with the Realization Director's guidelines. These animations may be created using Motion Capture or Keyframe. 

What you'll do  

  • Apply animation principles to create high-quality animations while optimizing them to meet technical constraints and making any changes that are requested based on direction.  
  • Work closely with the Director, Narration and Cinematic Designers to understand the expected quality, intentions and capabilities of the engine in order to anticipate the appearance of animations in the game.   
  • Accurately render actors' performances under the direction of the animation supervisor and the Realization Director.   
  • Provide visibility on work progress through production tracking and/or communication tools.   
  • Master dialogue animation systems and participate in their improvement.  
  • Be involved in motion capture shoots (ref, storyboard, animation listing, requirements, constraints, etc.).   
  • Check the results of your work in the game engine.   
  • Identify and report potential issues (technical, artistic, delivery deadlines) 
Qualifications

What you bring 

  • You have experience as a film or Cinematic Animator on a AAA game, and ideally participated in the entire production phase right up to the ship.  
  • You have experience with motion capture.
  • You have a good sense of composition (camera movement, framing, etc.).   
  • You are familiar with Autodesk animation software (Motion Builder/Maya).   
  • Your communication skills enable you to communicate easily within your team, as well as with other departments.
  • You are pro-active and enjoy researching and improving what already exists.  
  • You have an interest in the language of film.   
  • Your level of English enables you to work in an international environment.
