Job Description
Insight Global is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join a higher education client for a 3 year contract. The Mechanical Engineer will be supporting a multi-year project consisting of multiple projects within 80 buildings. The project consists of a varying scale and cost in the range of $100,000 to tens of millions of dollars.
As a part of the Infrastructure Planning & Implementation team, the Mechanical Engineer will provide enhanced hands-on service to ensure that the current and future projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet or exceed the standard for quality.
The Mechanical Engineer will provide specialized mechanical engineering services for all capital projects throughout the project delivery cycle - from initial design to building handover. In the pre-design phase of each project, the incumbent will provide feedback and guidance to external consultants regarding content in the technical investigations of existing buildings. The Mechanical Engineer will analyze the technical investigations and ensure completeness. The incumbent will work closely and collaboratively with the Building Area Managers and other stakeholders within the Facilities and Services department to support the delivery of technical investigations.

ROLE OVERVIEW
Plan, schedule, and assist in the coordination of short to medium term maintenance for all mobile equipment on-site. Plan to Thiess standard or Original Equipment Manufacturer specifications (whichever is greater) to ensure the equipment fleet achieves maximum availability in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan and manage projects, and prepare material, cost and timing estimates, reports and design specifications for machinery and systems
- Supervise and inspect the installation, modification and commissioning of mechanical systems at the company's facilities
- Develop maintenance standards, schedules and programs and provide guidance to industrial maintenance crews
- Investigate mechanical failures or unexpected maintenance problems
- Prepare contract documents and evaluate tenders for industrial construction or maintenance
- Supervise technicians, technologists and review and approve, calculations and cost estimates.
- Asset cost control - perform regular audit on work order cost code allocation
- Team building - share the knowledge of Thiess standard and JDE expectation to ensure that the maintenance activities compliant with the policy
- Initiate the reliability program onsite through the establishment of reliability method:
- Oil sampling
- Equipment breakdown statistic
- Equipment, undercarriage and tire condition monitoring
- Equipment performance and optimization review, implement the findings to actual maintenance operation
- Build relationships with the supplier and make sure the proper support is delivered for Thiess Stobie project through timely manner parts delivery, technical support, and warranty process
- Prepare and build parts database
- Ensure that all the maintenance expenses align with the plant budget according to the tender and to avoid unnecessary / unbudgeted expenditure

JOB REQUIREMENTS & SKILLS
- Familiar with Office 365, including strong Excel skills

- Common core and supervisor training would be considered an asset
- Deep understanding of the relation between work order, inventory, and procurement module in JDE
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week (hours may change and will be scheduled in response to operational requirements of the project)
- The successful candidate will work onsite at an office adjacent to the open pit project and will be expected to work in cold, snowy, winter conditions from time to time

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare the design and complete load calculations, schematics, equipment selection and system concept report.
- Prepare the contract documents including the specifications.
- Evaluate shop drawing reviews.
- Manage projects from design through construction.
- Ensure ASHRAE and LEED compliance where applicable.
- Direct, review, and approve project design changes.
- Engage in meetings with clients, contractors, and other consultants regarding project reports and findings.
- Provide expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Post-secondary degree in Mechanical Engineering or another relevant discipline required.
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is an asset.
- Professional Engineering Designation (P.Eng) required.
- 6+ years of experience in Mechanical Engineering for industrial, commercial, and/or institutional buildings.
- Strong background knowledge in Building Design with an emphasis on mechanical systems (HVAC/Plumbing/Fire Protection).
- Knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as the Canadian National Building Code (NBC), Ontario Building Code (OBC), etc.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to meet deadlines/successful completion of deliverables.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with the LEED accreditation process is an asset.

Position Overview:
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to assist with the design and development of robotic welding cells, fixtures, and R&D related projects. You will contribute to creating robust, efficient and innovative robotic solutions that meet the diverse needs of our clients across various industries. The successful candidate will possess sound knowledge in mechanical design software (including SOLIDWORKS) and experience with metal fabrication process. This role requires a strong commitment to customer satisfaction and a proactive willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic team environment.
Responsibilities:
- Involved in the preliminary brainstorm, detailed design and delivery of customized robotic welding projects under the supervision of our Operations Manager.
- Coordinate with stakeholders including 3rd party Engineers / technicians, clients and suppliers through various stages of each project.
- Interpret and manage drawings and models provided by stakeholders
- Accurately identify and specify weld requirements on drawings
- Develop custom 3D models of robotic cell and welding fixtures using SOLIDWORKS and other OLRP software
- Involved in quality control and compliance practices to meet project requirements
- Create detailed (shop) drawing packages and schedule for the fabrication of welding fixtures
- Create and organize engineering documents - SOP's, WP's, Proposals
- Maintain document control with internal documents and CAD files
- Manage project timelines & deliverables and coordinate with suppliers to ensure project execution
- Program robot in our facility to test weld demo workpieces in accordance with project requirements
- Coordinate in goods receiving of equipment and parts and ensure all materials meet specifications
- Assist with other tasks as assigned
Qualifications and Core Competencies:

- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minimum of 2-3 year of experience in 3D modeling and detailed/shop draw drawings development
- SOLIDWORKS software proficiency for creating detailed designs and 3D models - Parts, Assemblies, Dwg's, BOM's, Motion Studies.
- Creating Assembly and Detail dwg's for steel fabrication projects
- Estimating and performing take-off's for small fabrication jobs
- Detail-oriented and ability to establish & adjust priorities in a dynamic environment
- Experience with metal fabrication & manufacturing processes.
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly and effectively with internal team and external stakeholders
- Teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional team, including sales, procurement and logistics
- Ability to adapt to changes in project scope, requirements or fabrication technique
- Basic electrical knowledge for wiring and testing electrical equipment

- Registered P. Eng. in good standing in Ontario
- 5+ years of Engineering experience
- 5+ years demonstrated leadership, understanding and delivery of energy and sustainability technical services in a large complex organization including varying levels of stakeholders
- Ability to think strategically with the ability to understand technical detail to guide technicians, subcontractors and vendors to manage the day to day activities of the immediate team
- Certified Energy Manager or equivalent
