    - Internal leadership in design excellence, coaching, recruitment and retention.
    - Can lead and assist in the development of single discipline.
    - Provide fee development and technical writing support for mechanical components of medium to large multi-disciplinary proposals.
    - Providing technical input and support for large projects of high complexity.
    - Evaluates, selects, specifies, and engineers all mechanical engineered systems or products for a project.
    - Engages in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams and other visual formats.
    - Utilizes BIM technologies in the development of three-dimensional models of building's mechanical systems and provides markups for junior engineers.
    - Prepares and revises documentation in various mechanical phases including site plans, floor plans, diagrams, and details.
    - Leads project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.
    - Participates in client project requirement meetings, value analysis, and basic cost estimating.
    - Leads the preparation and coordination of the project specifications with construction documents.
    - Participates in constructability review.
    - Conducts quality assurance and quality control on own projects and projects of peers.
    - Assists in the development of new standards and specifications for the mechanical group.
    - Develops project scope, budgets, and design approach for all sizes of projects.
    - Oversees and manages multiple projects.
    Your Capabilities and Credentials
    - Requisite knowledge and application of applicable building codes and applicable building and energy codes.
    - General understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
    - Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
    - Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.

    Education and Experience

    Reporting to the Manager, Production Irradiator Engineering, you will be responsible for the design, testing and on-going technical and manufacturing support of production irradiator components.

    You will work closely with the Project Management office and the Production Irradiator Controls team to deliver projects on-time and on budget.

    Key Responsibilities

    Apply a fully proficient and in-depth knowledge of engineering principles and standards.

    Lead or participate in all aspects of the design and manufacture of irradiator components and assemblies. This will include leading the design process; coordinating prototype manufacture; performing safety analyses including engineering calculations, creating test specifications, coordinating and executing testing; compiling results and generating reports; and providing input to improve engineering processes.

    Lead mechanical engineering projects and be fully accountable to meet defined budgets, schedules, and functionality requirements, commensurate with your work experience.

    Be responsible for engineering approval on new designs to ensure they have met all the applicable engineering, quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.

    Stay current with the requirements for production irradiators for both dry and wet storage panoramic irradiators.

    Qualifications

    The Mechanical Engineer will interact with the customers and suppliers and will work closely with the Production, Procurement, Service and Installation teams while reporting to the Operations Manager - Projects.


    WHAT YOU WILL DO


    • Prepare concept, design and production drawings with supporting calculations and material data ensuring that designs meet specification requirements and manufacturing capabilities for new fabrications and existing equipment mechanical upgrades
    • Produce assembly and detail/shop drawings for production
    • Review and seal drawings
    • Interfacing with customers, vendors and managers to determine project scope, requirements, deliverables, budget, costing and schedules, etc.
    • Develop the technical documents required to carry out projects
    • Assist in preparing cost estimates and sourcing products
    • Produce BOM's and material requisitions
    • Perform site visits to validate scope requirements and determine existing mechanical builds on equipment
    • Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation (OHSA), promote safe working practices including safe equipment operation, hazard reporting, and awareness of rights
    • Perform other duties as assigned


    WHAT YOU NEED


    • Post-Secondary Degree in Mechanical or Structural (Civil) Engineering or relevant experience
    • 3 to 5 years of experience
    • Heavy Industrial Equipment Experience or O/H Crane experience is an asset
    • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario
    • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Solidworks computer-assisted design (CAD) software
    • Experience in designing machine-welded assemblies, a major asset
    • Experience in structural design, an asset
    • Knowledge of CSA S16 and CMAA specifications, an asset
    • Proficiency with office software (Word, Excel, Outlook)
    • Ability to work in cross-functional teams
    • Ability to manage priorities and work on various projects concurrently
    • Ability to exercise good judgment in resolving customer service issues

    Mechanical Engineer

    Description:

    Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Engineer is an integral part of our Engineering team.

    Responsibilities include and are not limited to:

    • Mechanical design of pressure equipment per ASME BPVC Section VIII Div.1 and CSA B51.

    • Mechanical design of piping systems per ASME B31.3 and CSA B51.

    • Structural design of steel assemblies per CSA S-16, NBCC, and other equivalent codes.

    • Review of customer specifications to ensure designs meet the requirements, as well as supporting internal stakeholders in applying the required specifications.

    • Review and endorse shop drawings for accuracy and completeness.

    • Provide engineering support in terms of calculations, reports, clarifications, and similar outputs to internal and external customers.

    • Work with local authorities for design registration of pressure equipment and pressure piping systems.

    • Continuously collaborate with process engineers, applications team, project managers, and the drafting group in the design of company products, while meeting project/assigned task schedules.

    • Initiate and be involved in the development and improvement of company procedures, standards, and products.

    Applicable Skills, Qualifications, and Education:

    • Minimum 5 years in a similar engineering position is required.

    • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from a recognized university.

    • Registered with at least one Canadian Engineering Professional Association. APEGA registration is strongly recommended.

    • Strong computer skills, including knowledge of commercial pressure vessel software, heat exchanger design software, structural design and analysis software, and/or piping stress and flexibility software.

    • Ability to perform simultaneously in multiple projects and various areas of involvement.

    • Project management skills.

    • FEA knowledge is considered an important asset.

    • Attention to detail.
