About the Job
The CLXT will perform a variety of routine laboratory, x-ray and ECG procedures in accordance with departmental policies, procedures and standards as defined by respective service and accrediting bodies. The CLXT also performs routine and preventative maintenance of equipment and trouble shoots equipment problems as required.
This is a Casual opportunity. Casual Employees are not guaranteed hours of work and can range from 0-37.5 hours per week on an as-needed basis.

Qualfications
Graduation from an approved Combined Laboratory X-Ray Technician program.
Eligible for registration with a provincial licensing body.
One year of general experience in laboratory and diagnostic imaging fields or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

As a Medical Technologist with VCH you will:
Work in a team based environment and performs a variety of routine and/or complex tests utilizing manual procedures and automated instruments within a designated laboratory area.
Position is also responsible for functions such as greeting patients, collecting and/or receiving specimens, entering data into a computerized laboratory system, validating and reporting test results, maintaining instruments and preparing solutions and control agents in accordance with established procedures and safety standards.
Participate in departmental training programs in chemistry, haematology, blood transfusion and other related areas with a view to learning new/existing tests and procedures for use in the Laboratory.
ABOUT BELLA BELLA, BC
Bella Bella is a beautiful island community off the central coast of British Columbia, 690 km north of Vancouver. It is surrounded by a magical world of channels, inlets and old growth forest. It is home to salmon, orcas, humpbacks, bald eagles and the other denizens of the Pacific Northwest. The climate is mild and the area is a paradise for kayaking, sport fishing, hiking and photography.
The Heiltsuk Hospital in Bella Bella has 7 acute beds, 7 long term care beds and a 4-bed emergency department open 24/7, along with Laboratory and Diagnostic Imaging services. It offers telehealth services as well as speciality clinics. Heiltsuk Hospital also has an Intensive Case Management team for mental health and substance use. There is a medical clinic and a pharmacy located in the hospital. The healthcare team consists of Physicians, RNs, LPNs, PCAs, Laboratory and Radiology Technologists, Combined Lab/X-Ray Technologists, Pharmacist, Pharmacy Assistants, and Support Services Personnel.
Heiltsuk Hospital is located on the traditional territories of the Heiltsuk Nation. It is one of the only provincial hospitals located on a reserve in all of Canada.

Qualifications Education & Experience
Certified by the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science and basic core laboratory training.
Knowledge & Abilities
Basic knowledge of knowledge of laboratory procedures and techniques including quality control.
Basic knowledge of research process and methodology.
Basic knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care using point of care instrumentation.

Job DescriptionThe Senior Medical Lab Technologist reports to the Clinical Services Manager, Laboratory Medicine and works under the supervision of the Charge Technologist, Pathology and Medical Authority for Pathology for day-to-day tasks/duties.
Accountabilities:
- Performs all front-line technical functions, operation and maintenance protocols, quality assurance and quality control procedures; monitors for compliance
- Designate for Charge Technologist/supervisor ; resource for front-line staff
- Act as subject matter expert and technical resource for staff
- Collaborates with peers, direct supervisors, professional leader and quality manager; using the organizational reporting structure to address conflict and develop solutions prior to escalation
- Participates in the development and review of technical procedures
- Maintains strong working knowledge of current technical methodologies, performance standards and evidence-based practice
- Actively involved in the inventory management process; orders product, ensures stock rotation, identifies and reports non-conformances (e.g. unacceptable, expired or discarded products)
- Monitors for compliance to policies and procedures; coaches, educates and trains as required
- Monitors and reallocates resources to meet performance expectations and operational needs
- Participates in process validations and qualification protocols for laboratory equipment, reagents and supplies
- Coordinates technical and safety training for staff; ensures hazardous tasks lists are current and communicated
- Provides input to staff performance appraisals
- Enters non-captured service and non-service recipient workload units
- Participates the management and reporting of EQA testing
- Manages workload effectively and efficiently; identifies, reports and solves problems, meets deadlines and prioritizes

- Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills

Strong analytical skills and attention to detail who demonstrates curiosity.
Ability to distinguish multiple colors.
