**Role:**

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Analysis and Reporting, the Accountant is responsible for effectively managing the full cycle accounting process, preparing and analyzing reporting packages and completing reconciliations.

**Role Responsibilities:**

- Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to accounts. Perform ongoing review investigation and correction to ensure consistency and accuracy
- Analyze financial information detailing assets, liabilities and capital. Reconcile bank accounts, balance sheet, and intercompany accounts. Investigate and present solutions for any related discrepancies
- Perform intercompany consolidation and monthly settlement of intercompany transactions
- Monitor compliance with Sysco’s policies, procedures & accounting standards, e.g. SOX, FAMM, etc.
- Review, investigate, and correct errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents and reports
- Maintain fixed assets sub-ledger and reporting and ensure all fixed asset transactions are submitted to the fixed asset system on a timely basis
- Prepare weekly and monthly reporting for internal, Corporate office and external reporting.
- Act as a subject matter expert for internal departments; provide accurate and timely information and support to the Manager, Financial Analysis and Reporting and Corporate Controller
- Collaborate with other members of the Finance Team to achieve overall operating objectives
- Conduct ad hoc projects as required
- Complies with Sysco’s Food Safety Policy and procedures to ensure food safety, quality and legality requirements are met.
- Is willing to work safely with minimal environmental impact and understands the importance of reporting all hazards, incidents, and environmental spills immediately to their Supervisor.
- Understands that they play an integral role in their own safety and that of their colleagues and is willing to speak out when hazards are present.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications/Skills/Job Requirements (About you):**

- Must have a minimum of 1-2 years in an accounting related role.
- High School diploma required
- Completion of Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration, Finance, or related degree preferred.
- CPA designation or currently working toward an accounting designation preferred.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office; proficiency in AS400 system a plus

WHAT YOULL BRING

  • A good basic understanding of accounting principles, practices, and regulations, which could be demonstrated through experience or education.
  • Minimum two years of relevant public practice accounting experience.
  • Strong computer skills, with experience in accounting and tax software, such as CaseWare, TaxCycle, Sage, and QuickBooks.

WHAT YOULL DO

  • Implement and maintain financial reporting procedures to meet internal and external reporting deadlines and requirements.
  • Analyze financial statements and reports and provideclients with financial, business, and tax advice.
  • Prepare and review year-end engagement files, including reconciling accounts, posting journal entries, and preparing supporting documentation.
  • Prepare and review sales tax and corporate tax returns.
  • Prepare and review personal tax returns (T1s) during personal tax season (March & April of each year).
  • Assist with tax planning calculations.
  • Provide feedback and training as required.
  • Maintain timely communication with clients and colleagues while fostering positive relationships.
  • Perform tax and accounting research as required.
  • Self-manage workload and projects effectively.
  • Other duties, relevant to the position, shall be assigned as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including daily transactions, invoices, payments, and receipts.
  • Accounts Payable and Receivable: Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely processing of invoices and payments.

The Opportunity:

Scope of the position

Reporting to the Manager of Finance and working within our Finance team. The Accountant role supports various aspects of day-today finance, accounting and operations for the company with emphasis on vendor credits using clear, effective, and timely communication.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ownership of the accounts payable (AP) credit processes, driving efficiency and ensuring timely, accurate management of credits.
  • Proactively analyze vendor account balances, uncover discrepancies and drive actionable recommendations to resolve issues quickly by collaborating closely with vendors and internal stakeholders.
  • Take the initiative to detect and resolve financial discrepancies, including inventory returns with urgency. Work closely with external vendors to review vendor statements and make recommendations for items that can be written off.
  • Collaborate with various internal departments such as (but not limited to) Accounts Payable, Purchasing, Sales, Warranty, Warehouse, Marketing etc. to resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with Accounting team members to produce monthly working papers, reconciliations and spreadsheets and prepare reports, including calculations of accruals and estimates.
  • Support various accounting and administrative duties as needed.
  • Engage with the Finance team to identify opportunities to suggest, develop, and document process improvements.

Skills and Qualifications

  • CPA candidate, or undergraduate degree in Accounting/Finance.
  • At least 3 years accounts payable and/or accounts receivable and/or accounting experience in a complex, high volume environment.
  • Strong English verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of AP, AR, accounting functions, regulations, procedures and practices as related to the work performed
  • Experience with developing and documenting procedures is highly desirable.
  • Ability to explain complex ideas clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to develop and maintain excellent business relationships both internally and externally exercising diplomacy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and in Excel (Pivot Table & VLOOKUP a MUST.)
  • Proficient in data entry and data management with ability to meet deadlines.
  • Effective organizational skills, attention to detail, accuracy, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated confidentiality, integrity and ethical standards.
  • Professional business acumen and ability to use critical thinking.
  • Above average problem-solving skill resulting in sound business solutions.
  • P21 experience is an asset.
  • Results oriented.

The target salary range for this position is $55,000 - $5,000 CAD . The pay range for this position is a general guideline only. The salary will depend on internal pay equity and the candidate's relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and job market data.
