Position Summary
The Building Construction Superintendent is responsible for the day-to-day management of building construction projects, ensuring that they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role requires comprehensive knowledge of building construction, strong leadership abilities, and excellent communication skills. The superintendent works closely with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and project specifications, while maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the construction of industrial, commercial, and institutional building projects.
  • Supervise, direct, and schedule on-site labor forces and subcontractors, ensuring effective coordination between trades.
  • Ensure all work is completed in compliance with blueprints, contracts, safety codes, and building regulations.
  • Review project plans and specifications to verify all work is performed according to the design.
  • Coordinate the delivery of materials and equipment, ensuring resources are available to meet deadlines.

Employment Criteria

Education and Experience:
  • A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory, and significant experience is required.
  • 5-10 years of progressive experience in building construction, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or superintendent role.
  • Experience with large-scale building projects, such as office buildings, hospitals, multi-unit residential complexes, schools, or industrial facilities.

Technical Skills:
  • Strong understanding of building construction methods, standards, and best practices.
  • Proficient in construction management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, or similar).
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and contracts.
  • Competent with scheduling tools (e.g., Primavera P6, Microsoft Project).
  • In-depth knowledge of local, provincial, and federal building codes and safety regulations.

Leadership and Interpersonal Skills:
  • Proven leadership ability to manage large, diverse on-site teams and subcontractors.

**Qualifications**
**Minimum Requirements**
In order to be considered for this position, candidates must possess, at a very minimum:
+ Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or equivalent and Four (4) + years of experience in structural engineering, with at least 2 years in a construction site supervision.
+ Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) designation in British Columbia.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Ideally, we prefer an individual with six (6+) years transit infrastructure or station construction
+ Strong knowledge of structural systems, concrete and steel construction, and relevant codes (e.g., CSA, ACI, AISC).
+ Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
+ Ability to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
+ Valid driver's license as the site is not accessible by public transit.
+ Experience with public sector infrastructure projects.

Position Overview

This position will support the Building Envelope Leader in overseeing the planning, execution, and completion of Envelope Product construction projects. This is a dynamic role that involves managing and coordinating with various stakeholders including international suppliers and partners, managing project documentation, and ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. Responsibilities:

Project Coordination

  • Drive the planning and scheduling of project activities related to everything from preconstruction to close out. These might include thinks like assisting Project Team during tendering processes and contracts as well as assisting the Project Team in completing takeoffs and project budget.
  • Facilitating activities between subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
  • Schedules reviews and follows-up on RFIs, drawings, Site Instructions, Shop Drawings, delivery dates of major equipment of sub contractors and internal sourcing and maintains most up to date project documentation.
  • Prepares and maintains project schedules with project management team and further assists site supervisor in creating and maintaining site schedule to ensures that project milestones are met.
  • Meeting management, organizing meetings utilizing agendas and conducing meetings and ensuring meeting minutes are accurate and distributed to all parties along with associated actions and follow up.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain and organize all related construction project documentation, including contracts, change orders, meeting minutes and action items.
  • Prepare and distribute project reports, including progress updates, potential delays and or issues, cost reports, and schedule updates.
  • Ensure all project documents are up-to-date and accessible to relevant team members.
  • Collects as-built drawings and closeout documentation.
  • Alerts Contract Manager and PM about all possible Variation Orders/Claims/Additional work which may arise on Construction Site.
  • Review project drawings to monitor progress and improve cost efficiency.
  • Contributes to improvement of company policies and procedures.

Budget and Cost Management

  • Works with team in the preparation of project budgets and cost estimates.
  • Track project expenses and manage project budgets.
  • Support the Project Manager Lead in identifying and managing cost-saving opportunities.
  • Approves invoices for technical conformity, track and control construction costs.

Quality Control and Safety

  • Ensure that all work is performed in accordance with project specifications and quality standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to monitor compliance with safety regulations and quality standards.
  • Assist in the implementation of safety programs and practices.
  • Ensure health and safety policies including inspection items, health and safety talks, supervisor inspections are performed and documented as per the construction teams processes and procedures.

Communication

  • Serve as a point of contact for project stakeholders, including clients, consultants and subcontractors.
  • Facilitate effective documented communication and collaboration among project team members.
  • Address and resolve any issues or conflicts that arise during the project.
  • Ensures that information flow inside Project Team is on the highest level.

Project Closeout:

  • Preparation and submission of project closeout documents.
  • Ensure all tasks are completed, quality control documents verified and signed/submitted.
  • Support the Building Envelope Leader in conducting project post-mortems and capturing lessons learned.
  • Liaises with subcontractors to obtain product specifications, warranties and other documents required for project closeout.

Qualifications

  • Technical college diploma or university degree
  • 3 + years of low/high rise Building Envelope construction is considered an asset.
  • 5 + years of experience in construction coordination experience.
  • Working knowledge of Building Envelope construction project management and administration.
  • Drivers licence in good standing.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to realize competencies as listed.
  • Ability to work on a construction site and at heights as required/needed.
  • Knowledge of construction processes, materials and regulations would be an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, scheduling software such as Wrike /Microsoft Project.
  • AutoCad/AutoDesk Construction Claud and 3D software knowledge is considered an asset.
  • PMP Certification is considered an asset

Reporting to a Manager, Structural Engineering, this position will be responsible for working with a multi-disciplinary team to take innovative design solutions from proposal stage through to constructed projects for clients in a wide variety of Sectors. This role can grow to include a client facing component and will allow candidate to gain knowledge of project management best practises.

What you'll do at WSP
+ Perform engineering calculations and assessments for steel, concrete, timber, and masonry structures, under the supervision of Senior Engineers
+ Perform calculations using latest design software and advanced finite element modelling underpinned by a sound understanding of basic principles

+ Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Structural Engineering

**Job Description**
AECOM is hiring a Structural Engineering Lead for their Highway Engineering Team in Burnaby, BC. We support flexible work location including remote and hybrid models.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
+ Leading structural engineering practice in BC for highway engineering projects.
+ Delivering of high quality and cost-effective structural evaluation and design solutions for highway projects.
+ Developing and managing with minimal guidance or supervision, the BC highway structural engineering team including engineers, inspectors, technicians, and structural CAD specialists with expertise including structural design documents and contract deliverables.
+ Supervising licensed and non-licensed professionals including assignment of work, mentoring, performance planning and development in the field of structural engineering and provincial bridge engineering standards and best practices
+ Supervising and/or providing structural assessments including, condition, load capacity, service life, rehabilitation and functional needs, life cycle costing, and renewal options analysis.
+ Supervising and/or providing structural inspection and assessment reports including having the ability to travel province wide, on a short notice, for emergency response or to assess the structural integrity of highway infrastructure.
+ Project managing assignments from planning through design and construction including leading project meetings, developing scope, schedule & budget and collaborating with the design team and client.
+ Supervising or providing structural designs for mid to large, complex, multi-modal and major highway expansion projects involving functional, preliminary, and detailed designs and coordinating professional, engineering services involving other key highway engineering disciplines such as drainage, hydrotechnical, geotechnical, environment, geometrics, traffic, safety, and electrical
+ Supervising or providing engineering services during construction and project close out with record drawings.
+ Building client relationships through performance, service, effective communication, and by identifying and meeting client needs.
+ Delivering structural design deliverables through internal and external sources including designs, workplans, cost estimates, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic and working drawings.
+ Maintaining the quality management system for structural engineering design projects including quality control and assurance procedures, checks and independent reviews at different phases of designs.
+ Providing advice and leadership to project teams and clients.
+ Managing resources for the delivery of concurrent projects of substantial scopes, and coordinating shared resources with other AECOM offices across Canada to provide efficient delivery of structural design projects
+ Leading proposal development and teaming for design assignments through collaboration with other business lines within AECOM and subconsultants.
+ Supervising or providing the delivery of design and construction phases status reports for client and project teams.
+ Supervising or providing field reviews and/or coordinate site construction activities ensuring compliance with construction contract documents and design intents.
+ Supervising and/or preparing documents addressing regulatory requirements, permits, environmental assessments and stakeholder consultation.
+ Proposing opportunities and assisting with business development for the BC highway engineering team.
+ Implementing corporate policies related to quality management, risk assessment and sustainable legacies while supporting AECOM's vision, values, and key business development priorities.
**Qualifications**
**Minimum Requirements:**
+ Degree in Civil Engineering
+ 8 years progressive experience as professional of record.
+ 4+ years of leading or managing structural engineering team.
+ Experienced with the applications of Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC), BC Supplement to CHBDC and the BC MOTT Standard Specifications for Highway Construction
+ Registered P. Eng., with Engineers & Geoscientists of BC.
+ Experienced with a variety of software programs used for structural analysis and design.
*Structures include highway bridges, tunnels, retaining walls, large culverts, and sign structures.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Master's degree in Structural Engineering
+ Knowledge and experience in developing and interpreting highway engineering policies, practices, procedures, standards, and regulations in BC.
+ Familiarity with Master Municipal Construction Documents and BC Building Codes.
+ Specialized expertise in seismic engineering.
+ Experienced with construction specs and erection plans and requirements for large structural elements
+ Experienced in successfully leading and completing several complex and major structural design projects.
+ Previous experience as professional of record for the BC Ministry of Transportation or other provincial road or transportation authorities.
+ Strong interpersonal, negotiating, problem-solving and analytical skills
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Position: Civil-Structural Engineering Intern

Purpose:


WhiteWater West is seeking one Civil-Structural Engineering Intern to join our Engineering team at our Richmond head office for a 4 month term starting Sep 2nd, 2025 (possibility of an extension)! In this position, you will work under the guidance of a Professional Engineer registered in BC as you undertake a variety of tasks to assist the multi-disciplinary Engineering department. Examples of previous work assignments include: supporting Continuous Improvement efforts, creating design documentation, and occasional opportunities to assist in design evaluation activities. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Review structural drawings to identify pre-engineered manufactured parts
  • Work with staff to transition existing designs from legacy systems into the PLM database for water slide parts, structural elements, product assemblies, and electrical/mechanical items
  • Analyze differences in worldwide materials standards and perform relevant calculations to propose standard substitutions
  • Mark up existing drawings to identify parts either already in PLM or needing to be set up in PLM and work with staff to set up such parts
  • Work within existing protocols for creation and file storage of all parts, assemblies, and drawings
  • Occasional maintenance and rework of existing parts, assemblies, and drawings to conform to current protocols
  • Occasional creation of CAD models, fabrication part drawings, assembly drawings, and Bills of Material (BOMs) for use by our manufacturers
  • Occasional assistance with analysis of structural design elements
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Design Manager


Qualifications & Experience:


  • Participating or recently completed post-secondary design education (Civil Engineering Degree or Diploma)
  • Proficient with CAD software, including AutoCAD and SolidWorks
  • Knowledge of drawings standards (ASME Y14.100) would be a definite asset
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
