We have an immediate opportunity in our Toronto office for an Electrical Engineer- Buildings with 6+ years of experience in power system engineering.
The successful candidate shall demonstrate relevant experience in the following sectors:
- Buildings (commercial, light industrial, industrial, institutional, governmental)
- Healthcare facilities
- District energy (cogeneration, central cooling and/or heating plant)
- Experience in utility, water facilities, urban/residential underground services, airport and transportation sectors will be considered as an additional valuable asset
Your Key Responsibilities
- Preparing Master planning studies, preliminary engineering, detailed engineering, and contract administration for power distribution system (sizing and design of all required components)
- Interact with a multi-disciplinary team including architects, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers, and technicians (ASME team). The candidate will have to support these staff and be capable of offering advice and guidance to solve complex electrical issues on a project needs basis.
- Interested in learning new technologies and techniques to stay up to date with current industry trends and practices.
- Developing drawing packages including specifications suitable for tender and construction for:
- Service entrance, distribution backbones ranging from 120/208V to 25kV - Site wide distribution systems
- Generators systems
- Lightning protection
- Bonding and grounding system (power and telecom)
- Experience with UPS, battery bank, energy storage systems will be considered as an asset
- Carrying out power system studies including:
- Short circuit, load flow, coordination of protection devices, arc flash
- Load flow
- Coordinate with his/her supervisor to:
- Take ownership of project tasks or entire projects as required and produce all deliverables with minimum supervision
- Identify all deliverables to be produced
- Propose or adhere to project schedule
- Propose options to solve technical challenges
- Interact with Client on a project needs basis to understand the scope of work identify client's needs and budgetary limitations which may impact design choices
- Self-organized, and autonomous to successfully deliver projects
- Recommend design strategies or technologies suiting project's needs and budget
- Organize project execution using company's staff and resources as required
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Requisite knowledge and application of National Electrical Code and applicable building and energy codes.
- General understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
- Familiar with the following software suite: MS office suite and MS project, Visual, AGI, AutoCAD, REVIT, ETAP
- Additional knowledge of CYME, EASYPOWER, protection, controls and relaying techniques, as well as SCADA system would be beneficial
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering & Licensed Professional Engineer.
Minimum of 6 years of experience. LEED Green Associate or LEED AP preferred.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may require travel and include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

**Major Responsibilities:**
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
+ Developing various types of reports including schematic design, design development, building assessment, and design build/assist scope of work documents
+ Preparing electrical drawings and specifications
+ Implement design concept through the preparation and production of drawings to detail lighting, power, fire alarm, and specialty low voltage systems rough-ins (i.e. telecom., intrusion control, security, CCTV, door access controls, etc.)
+ Providing technical and administrative support through all phases of the project
+ Conduct necessary research to gather industry, field, and project specific data

**Qualifications**
**Minimum Requirements:**
In order to be considered for the position, candidates must possess, at a very minimum:
+ Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
+ Two (2)+ years of experience in the engineering consulting industry in a building engineering group
+ Holding or the ability to obtain Secret Level security clearance
**Preferred Requirements:**
+ Prefer an individual with five (5+) with extensive electrical design experience on transportation-related buildings and facilities such as subway stations.
+ Experience with Electrical load calculations, lighting design and analysis a plus
+ Familiarity with OESC,OBC, IEEE, NFPA, and other industry standards and codes
+ Experience in designing electrical power and lighting systems
+ Knowledge with power analysis tools such as SKM and/or ETAP
+ Proficient in the use of computers for making engineering calculations, spreadsheets, and report writing
+ Familiarity with providing guidance and support for others within a department
+ Analytical, technical and problem-solving skills and abilities
+ Ability to communicate, coordinate, and work well with others both internally and externally
+ Strong verbal and written communication skills and commitment to technical excellence and quality

**Job Description**
As part of our continued growth, our Winnipeg office has an opportunity for an Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls Engineer. The ideal candidate will have a successful track record in delivering conceptual, preliminary and detailed design phases, construction services in utility, mining, Industrial and/or municipal water and wastewater treatment facilities. They will work in a multi-disciplinary team environment to deliver advanced water and wastewater treatment facilities, transmission and distribution, renewables and large mining projects to our clients based in Western Canada and the USA.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
+ Design of electrical power and distribution systems, lighting, grounding and control systems
+ Design and supervise production of drawings and specifications for complete electrical and automation systems including single line diagram, AC/DC schematics, field and panel control devices and SCADA for various processes including water/wastewater treatment, utility and mining applications.
+ Design experience with MV/HV substation protection and control systems philosophy, switchyard physical design including MV/HV equipment and structure, cable trench and grounding layout.
+ Strictly adhere to AECOM's project and Quality standards, including capability of learning and adopting clients' standard and requirements upon request
+ Ensure accuracy, completeness, and quality of technical aspect on project documentation produced in accordance with AECOM QA/QC procedures and the clients' standards.
+ Ensure that project deliverables are produced in a timely manner to expected quality and allocated budget.
+ Work with Construction Contract Administrator to review Shop Drawings, prepare and issue responses to contractor queries.
+ Perform site inspections and issue inspection reports, issue Field Instructions and Field Orders, and prepare deficiency reports.
+ Provide technical support through all phases of the project.
+ Understands the importance of meeting schedules, deadlines and good time management.
**Qualifications**
**Minimum requirements:**
+ Bachelor's degree in Electrical / I&C Engineering + 4 years of related experience in engineering design in a multi-disciplinary electrical, instrumentation & control environment for production, including field services during construction phase of projects.
+ Registered as a P.Eng in Manitoba or ability to become registered within 6-12months.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Ideally 5+ years of experience in engineering design and field experience in a multi-disciplinary electrical, instrumentation & control environment for production, including field services during construction phase of projects.
+ Proven track record in design and production of tender documents such as P&IDs, single line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, control network diagrams, electrical and instrument location drawings, loop & schematic wiring diagrams; developing equipment load schedules, cable & tray calculations, instrumentation indices & standard details.
+ Experience in MV/HV substation design including physical switchyard, protection and control systems and medium voltage switchgear will be an asset.
+ Experience in protection relay selection and setting will be an asset.
+ Experience with technical software such as SKM and ETAP will be an asset.
+ Familiar with the Canadian Electrical Code, NFPA (National Fire Protection Association), Manitoba Building Code and Canadian Standard Association (CSA) standards
+ Design experience with low voltage (600V) MCCs and communication systems will be an asset.
+ Must be able to interpret engineers' notes & specifications and convert into detailed design drawings accurately in timely manner with minimum amount of supervision.
+ Experience in the design of PLC based systems an asset.

**Job Description**
Supporting our growing Water division, you will perform specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer including:
+ Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
+ Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.
+ Provides guidance to entry level engineers.
+ Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.
+ Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works.
+ Performance at this level requires developmental experience in a professional position.
+ Independently work to provide EI&C engineering tasks for municipal projects to clients based in Western Canada especially for Metro Vancouver type of work.
+ Design and develop contract specifications, studies and reports for electrical power and distribution systems, grounding, lighting, cable tray system, cable feeder sizing, soft-start and variable speed drives, standby power, and low voltage systems (fire alarm, telecommunications and security systems) focused on building systems applications.
+ Capable to develop single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, equipment layout and elevation drawings, P&IDs, grounding layouts, motor schematics and wiring diagrams, instrument loop diagrams, equipment interconnection wiring diagrams, AC/DC schematics, cable schedules, cable tray layouts, area classification drawings, fire alarm riser and layout, control panel layouts, specifications, cost estimates, lighting layouts and other building systems without supervision.
+ Design and specify process instrumentation and control devices for various processes including water/wastewater treatment and industrial applications.
+ Provide electrical discipline leadership on small to mid-scale water and wastewater projects under minimal supervision to ensure that engineering and design deliverables comply with applicable regulations, standards and sounds engineering practices.
+ Take direction from Projects' Managers, Leads and Process Engineers, and work closely with other discipline Designers and Engineers as a key team player for coordination and liaison of project deliverables under minimal supervision.
+ Strictly adhere to AECOM's project design and specification standards, including capability of learning and adopting clients' standard and requirements as required.
+ Ensure accuracy, completeness and quality of technical aspect on project documentation produced in accordance with AECOM QA/QC procedures and with the clients' standards and expectation.
**Qualifications**
**Minimum requirements:**
+ University Degree in Electrical Engineering, from an accredited post-secondary institution;
+ Minimum 5 years related industry and engineering design experience in a multi-disciplinary electrical, power and/or instrumentation & control environment.
+ **_Registered Professional in Canada (EGBC preferred)_** or eligibility to **quickly** obtain EGBC registration with registration in another Canadian jurisdiction.
+ Applicable experience in electrical related design and commissioning, preferably encompassing electrical distribution systems and DCS or PLC control systems, variable speed drives, and instrumentation & control systems for municipal or light industrial environment.
**Preferred qualifications:**
+ Familiar with the **Canadian Electrical Code, NFPA** (National Fire Protection Association, Canadian Building Code), IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), other recognised standards such as CEC, IEEE, NFPA, NEMA, NESC, ANSI, ATS, ISA, IESNA and experience in building (fire alarm and communication) systems.
+ Proven track record in design and production of tender documents such as P&IDs, single line diagrams, control and communication system diagrams, electrical and instrument location drawings, loop & schematic wiring diagrams; developing equipment load schedules, cable & tray calculations, instrumentation list and specifications sheets, standard details; contract specifications, electrical studies and reports.
+ Experience working with Metro Vancouver is an asset.
+ Perform electrical system studies and calculations. Proficient in use of **_AutoCAD_** and/or other design tools (AutoCAD P&IDs/Electrical, REVIT MEP) will be a desirable asset.
+ Good analytical skills and attention to detail.
+ Experience with Metro Vancouver engineering standards is a strong asset.
+ Excellent English written and oral communications skills; proven interpersonal skills, self-motivated, results oriented, ability to work independently and be flexible to perform work under tight schedules in a fast paced integrated multi-disciplinary team environment.

Your Opportunity
Stantec's Mining Practice is hiring an Electrical Design Lead to join our growing team across Canada. This position reports to the Electrical Engineering Supervisor. As an Electrical Design Lead, you will be a key member of the electrical team working with various clients in completing feasibility studies and detailed engineering projects for underground and surface mining operations. You would have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects both domestic and international. This role is for a full-time position.
Your Key Responsibilities

- You will work with a team of engineers and designers in the planning and execution of project work, including scoping, asset integrity assessments, as-built documentation, feasibility studies, and detailed engineering. You will provide technical support during construction and commissioning.
- You will provide clients with engineering support to meet their needs and incorporate client suggestions for future requirements in a timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner. This position is intended to be client facing and includes attending client meetings, which may at times be remote, as well as corresponding directly with the client.
- You will regularly interface with other disciplines and departments to execute projects.
- Part-time office presence is a requirement
- You will be responsible for the review and analysis of drawings for possible safety and constructability problems prior to issuance to clients.
- As a member of the electrical/automation team, your primary duties will include:
- Power system design and analysis in accordance with applicable codes for surface and underground mining operations.
- Incorporation of innovation, optimization, and standardization in designs as appropriate considering constructability and economics.
- Completion of fit-for-purpose designs that meet the client's needs and requests.
- Preparation of quality reports and calculation packages as project deliverables.
- Development and completion of power systems analysis models using ETAP, EasyPower and/or SKM.
- Report project progression updates and/or issues to Discipline Leads, Area Managers or Project Managers.
- Self-starter, with the ability to handle change and work with minimal supervision. You must be a contemplative person who is willing to challenge your own work as well as the work of those around you.
- Excellent knowledge of applicable design codes and familiarity with Mine Safety and Health Administration Regulations.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent interpersonal abilities and willingness to work in a team atmosphere.
- Previous experience as a Lead Engineer on detailed engineering/construction projects with a consulting firm or Owner's team.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and project engineering experience.
- Ability to take the lead on a project team and mentor junior staff members.
- Completing inspections and condition assessments for electrical and communications infrastructure (this may include climbing ladders and walking / standing for extended periods of time).
- Willingness to travel to client sites or other Stantec offices (~10% travel).
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Professional Engineering license is required.
- 15+ years of engineering, design, and construction experience in heavy industry, particularly surface or underground mining.
- Required technical experience in:
- Electrical Infrastructure & Power Distribution Systems Design including: 35 kV, 25 kV, 15 kV, 5 kV and 600 V power distribution/motor control
- Mine infrastructure design including switch rooms, messenger, tray, shaft/borehole cable installations
- Mine wide power distribution and capacitive charging current/ground potential rise assessments
- Condition assessment and function testing
- Lighting design and modelling
- Ground system design and ground grid testing
- Mine Services Process Control & Instrumentation Design including: - Ore & Waste Handling (Traffic Management -Ore Pass Dumping Controls, Crusher Controls, Conveyor Synchronization)
- Hoisting System Process Control and Interfaces
- Ventilation/Ventilation-on-Demand
- Process Piping Systems (Dewatering, Fuel Delivery, Compressed Air, Process Water)
