About the Role

Reporting to the Geochem Lab Manager, we are hiring a Laboratory Production Manager (Geochemistry), to oversee the Geochem Lab Services Team. With your experience in leadership, fostering continuous improvement, and drawing on your knowledge of Lean Six Sigma methodologies, you’ll oversee the operational performance of the laboratory, ensuring efficient and compliant production processes, operational excellence, and team engagement. This role involves managing staff, resources, and equipment to meet production goals while adhering to safety regulations and quality standards.

By assessing and optimizing lab services and procedures, you will streamline operations, increase sample throughput, and ensure the production of high-quality, defensible data—delivered safely and on time. Your leadership will play a critical role in advancing our market share and operational efficiency while embedding a continuous improvement mindset across the team.

You will make a measurable difference working with young management team to shape them into future leaders, optimizing processes to introduce efficiency, and contributing to strategic planning that increases our visibility and impact. Responsibilities

  • Accountable for maintaining production and quality targets and ensuring optimal staff levels to achieve production, quality, safety, and financial targets.
  • Train employees according to SOP’s, safety controls, and equipment.
  • Assess and recommend resource planning to improve process efficiency.
  • Create a positive and collaborative environment for your team. Support new initiatives and act as a technical resource for employees.
  • Motivate and coach staff, set goals, review performance and assess training needs.
  • Schedule and prioritize workflow through the departments so that client deadlines are met in a timely fashion; monitor and manage the throughput and performance of your team, and pivot to meet changing needs
  • Lead initiatives to identify and eliminate waste, reduce process variability, and implement data-driven improvements that enhance efficiency, quality, safety, and customer satisfaction.
  • Assist with implementing new methods and continuous improvement.
  • Investigate and solve client complaints, NCRs, and root causes for re-work to ensure quality and customer satisfaction
  • Assess performance against established benchmarks and key performance indicators, addressing strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Identify opportunities for growth and actively support staff in advancing their skills and achieving their career goals.
  • Verify the optimization and calibration of analytical instruments
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols

Qualifications

  • Technical diploma or B.Sc. degree in a science-related field
  • 5+ years of experience in a production lab setting
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience at a laboratory

Position Scope
We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated Lab Manager to oversee the efficient operation of our research laboratories within the Technology organization. Reporting to the Senior Director, Technology Development, this role is instrumental in ensuring smooth laboratory functions, maintaining equipment, and upholding environmental, health, and safety standards as a top priority.

This position provides leadership by overseeing daily laboratory functions, upgrades and maintenance of equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry standards to support the preparation and execution of test campaigns. The Lab Manager will optimize lab processes, enhance test capabilities, and drive innovation, helping plant operations and research teams achieve their goals while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

This position is a full-time, 40hrs/week position.  This position is eligible for the 9/80 work schedule to offer a flexible work schedule. 

This role is based in Squamish, BC.

Health Safety and Environment 

  • Demonstrate a positive safety culture.
  • Identify, report, and resolve unsafe conditions, processes, or actions within the workplace.
  • Ensure that all safety related incidents, accidents and near misses are reported and investigated in line with company policy.
  • Leverage the training program to establish safety as a core value in all activities.
  • Must be able to lift 20 kg, climb ladders and stairs. Walking, bending, stooping is required.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator.
  • Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms.

Responsibilities
  • Laboratory Supplies and Equipment Management
    • Maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and operate laboratory equipment, ensuring reliability through routine maintenance, repairs, modifications, and process optimizations.
    • Determine lab equipment and instrumentation needs for routine work, project execution, and R&D enhancements, drafting proposals for acquisition.
    • Collaborate with external consultants, vendors, and internal stakeholders to evaluate testing capabilities and scale-up strategies.
    • Oversee lab inventory, procurement, and budget, while managing test resources and prioritizing projects based on business and technical needs.
  • Sample and Data Management
    • Implement sample management protocols to ensure accurate tracking, secure storage, and streamlined analysis across sites.
    • Leverage laboratory and project management systems for efficient data collection, workflow tracking, and reporting.
    • Maintain data integrity by ensuring systematic record retention, protection, and disposal of data while maintaining a clean, organized, and functional workspace.
    • Establish and maintain rigorous QA/QC protocols, including Gauge R&R and statistical process control, to validate the repeatability and reproducibility of laboratory results and ensure consistent data reliability.
  • Safety & Compliance
    • Implement and enforce safety protocols while ensuring regulatory compliance, including adherence to Safety Data Sheets, proper chemical handling, and equipment usage.
    • Participate in safety programs, including Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Management of Change (MoC) requirements, and investigation of safety incidents.
    • Apply lessons learned to improve equipment, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and laboratory practices.
    • Drive implementation of lean practices and continuous improvement initiatives to improve lab throughput and reduce process inefficiencies.
  • Technical Oversight & Research Support
    • Lead and oversee analytical testing, ensuring accuracy in execution, appropriate test selection, and precise data analysis to support operational and research needs.
    • Evaluate and standardize laboratory workflows, implementing best practices to improve efficiency and traceability.
    • Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for specialized laboratory characterization, independently executing advanced analytical techniques to ensure high-quality and precise results.
    • Provide technical support, assisting with data interpretation, troubleshooting, and standard operating procedure (SoP) development to ensure consistency and accuracy in testing.
    • Design, implement, and review test plans, ensuring analytical processes align with technical objectives and produce actionable results.
    • Interpret and communicate findings, summarizing data through reports and presentations to provide clear insights and inform decision-making.
  • Internal & External Collaborations
    • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, including customers, to define optimal testing solutions, plan and execute studies, coordinate deliverables across concurrent technical projects, and ensure alignment on scope, timelines, and data exchange.
    • Support R&D initiatives through collaboration with external technical teams.
    • Support project governance framework, communicate risks, and ensure visibility of deliverables to senior management and technical partners.
    • Work with legal counsel for NDAs to protect intellectual property, ensuring appropriate documentation and filings.
  • Team Leadership & Development
    • Lead cross-functional teams including lab personnel, validation engineers, and/or project managers, to drive cohesive project execution and uphold high technical standards.
    • Provide mentorship and personal development guidance to direct reports, fostering long-term growth and leadership potential.
    • Deliver practical training on equipment use, testing methodologies, and lab procedures to build technical confidence and precision.

Education and Experience
Education:
  • Master’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Material Science, Chemical or Materials Engineering or in an equivalent technical field.
Experience:
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Laboratory Manager or in an equivalent role, preferably in an industrial laboratory
  • Must have comprehensive knowledge of fundamental chemical principles, laboratory practices and procedures, equipment maintenance, laboratory safety and associated computer support systems.
  • Demonstrated expertise in problem-solving abilities, analytical thinking, and technical analysis.
  • Proven leadership in supervising direct and indirect reports within a collaborative research or operational setting.
  • Track record of driving research and development initiatives, including designing, validating, adopting and scaling new laboratory processes in response to evolving technical challenges and business needs.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities, with the capacity to handle multiple complex issues simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaboration with stakeholders, colleagues, and staff, including fluency in English for reading, writing, and presenting information across all levels of management.
Preferred Qualifications / Assets:
  • Experience in instrumentation and data acquisition.
  • Ability to optimize laboratory processes and resources for efficiency.
  • Creativity and adaptability in solving problems and developing new ideas.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft 365.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary for a senior role is $96,390 to $126,000

Orthodontic Dental Lab Assistant Manager

Location: Calgary, AB

Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday (day shift; flexibility during peak periods)

Overview:

We’re seeking an Orthodontic Dental Lab Assistant Manager to lead day-to-day workflow in an orthodontic laboratory setting while serving as a primary liaison to orthodontists and practice teams. This role blends case coordination and customer communication with hands-on technical expertise in fixed and removable orthodontic appliances and digital workflows (scans, CAD, and 3D printing).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate daily case intake, scheduling, and routing; monitor WIP and remove bottlenecks to meet turnaround SLAs.
  • Communicate with orthodontists and practice staff to clarify prescriptions, discuss appliance options, and confirm timelines.
  • Oversee appliance fabrication quality across retainers (Hawley/Essix), expansion devices (e.g., Hyrax), functional appliances (e.g., Herbst), and indirect bonding trays.
  • Support digital production (scan processing, model prep, appliance design, and 3D print/finishing); ensure accurate records and version control.
  • Track remake/adjustment trends; implement corrective actions and standard work.
  • Coach/mentor junior technicians on orthodontic standards, safety, and productivity best practices.
  • Maintain documentation (case notes, photos, QC logs) in LIMS/ERP; prepare clear status updates for clinicians.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement (workflow, materials, nesting/print strategies, and preventive maintenance).


Qualifications:

  • 3–5+ years in an orthodontic or dental lab with demonstrated experience in orthodontic appliance fabrication and finishing.
  • Working knowledge of CAD/CAM orthodontic tools (e.g., 3Shape Ortho/Appliance Designer, equivalent) and 3D printing workflows.
  • Strong customer service and professional communication skills; confident with dental/orthodontic terminology.
  • Proven ability to prioritize, delegate, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Asset: experience training others; exposure to aligner trimming/finishing or indirect bonding tray workflows.
