The Stantec Research Services team facilitates Stantec engagement in research by accessing research funding and other resources. One major source of funding is the Canadian federal government's research tax credit program "Scientific Research and Experimental Development" (SR&ED).
As the Scientific Research & Experimental Development (SR&ED) Intern, on Stantec's Research Services team, make a career-building move in which you can leverage your organizational skills while learning about and furthering innovative work at Stantec. You will join our global Innovation Office team, learning about some of the most innovative science and technology projects across Canada, and accessing government funding for those projects. This position will commence January 2026 and the term is expected to last six months. Stantec supports hybrid work arrangements where employees can work remotely or from the office, as needed, based on demands of specific tasks, work preferences, and operational requirements.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Work with Research Advisor (Canada) using your organizational skills to advance the annual cycle of SR&ED claim development at Stantec which includes:
- Planning - identify all necessary elements of claim development and schedule them
- Documenting - attend project calls, summarize information, group with similar claims
- Tracking - follow each lead from identification to completed claim, and record each step
- Supporting - Assist in gathering, reviewing, and organizing supporting documentation, as well as contributing to the cost estimation process.
- Monitoring - keep the claim process on schedule through structured reminders
- Provide support for other Stantec programs that address researchers' needs, in collaboration with the Manager of Research Services, as required.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Highly organized and skilled at working in a team environment on time-sensitive projects
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Familiar with engineering and scientific language; able to understand engineering processes
- Ability to work effectively in an online environment, offering, and receiving information within specific timeframes.
Education and Experience
- Currently enrolled in a master's program in science or engineering.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Python programming is essential.

The Akausivik Inuit Family Health Team (AIFHT) is a not-for-profit health clinic dedicated to delivering culturally competent, high-quality care to the Inuit community. AIFHT works collaboratively with federal, provincial, and local health authorities to ensure we are responsive and rooted in a model of excellence in primary care.
AIFHT is currently looking for a Research Assistant/Associate to join our team in a one-year term position (with the potential for extension). The Research Assistant/Associate will support health research activities led by our organization. This includes gathering data, preparing, and distributing surveys, supporting stakeholder engagement, and assisting in other research-related tasks. This role will be based in a medical setting and will involve both administrative and field-based research responsibilities.
The position reports to the Executive Director and receives day-to-day guidance and support from the Research Project Manager.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- May be required to work occasional evening or weekend shifts depending on project needs.

In this individual contributor role, you’ll combine research and hands-on experimentation to design, develop, and validate advanced machine learning solutions. You’ll collaborate with our AI Architect and data scientists to drive innovation in deep learning, natural language processing, and GPU-accelerated computing—helping shape our technical direction and deliver high-impact solutions for clients.
Key Responsibilities:
Research & Innovation
- Investigate and design novel algorithms in machine learning and AI, with emphasis on deep learning architectures, transformers, and generative models.
- Leverage GPU acceleration frameworks (e.g., RAPIDS, CUDA, PyTorch, TensorFlow) to optimize large-scale experimentation.
- Stay ahead of the curve in AI by evaluating and adapting the latest advances into our work.
Applied Development
- Build prototypes that demonstrate research ideas in action, enabling rapid iteration and validation.
- Collaborate with client delivery teams to adapt research outputs to real-world challenges.
- Ensure scalability and efficiency of models through GPU-accelerated workflows.
Collaboration & Thought Leadership
- Work closely with our Data Science Leaders to define and execute the long-term research agenda.
- Mentor data scientists in advanced techniques and help raise the team’s technical bar.
- Share findings internally (and externally, where appropriate) through presentations, blogs, or publications.
Requirements
Desired Skills & Experience:
- PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field with a strong AI/ML focus.
- Deep knowledge of machine learning, deep learning, and optimization methods.
- Experience with transformer-based models (e.g., BERT, GPT, LLaMA) and generative AI.
- Strong hands-on skills with GPU computing frameworks (RAPIDS, CUDA, PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX).
- Applied Research Skills: Ability to design experiments, analyze results rigorously, and translate findings into practical prototypes.
- Strong ability to convey complex research concepts to diverse audiences, both technical and non-technical.
- Publications in leading AI/ML conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, CVPR, ACL), an asset.
- Experience with large-scale distributed training and model optimization, an asset.
- Exposure to client-facing or product-driven environments, applying research in practical contexts, an asset.
