Operations Manager (Biomass Wood Grinding)


SiteTalent is hiring on behalf of our client, a leading provider of sustainable biomass solutions in Northern BC, focused on transforming forestry residuals into high quality wood fiber to be used in energy co-generation. With a commitment to environmental responsibility, safety and operational excellence, they supply biomass materials to domestic and international energy markets.


The Role:

The Operations Manager will oversee the daily operations of their biomass wood grinding facilities and mobile grinding operations across Northern BC. This role is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective production while maintaining the highest standards of environmental compliance, equipment maintenance, and employee leadership.


Responsibilities:

  • Lead day-to-day grinding operations at fixed and mobile sites, ensuring productivity and safety targets are met.
  • Manage a team of operators, mechanics, and support staff; responsible for hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management.
  • Coordinate logistics for inbound raw materials (e.g., forestry slash, waste wood) and outbound ground biomass product.
  • Monitor equipment usage and performance, overseeing maintenance schedules, repairs, and downtime mitigation.
  • Implement and enforce company policies and procedures related to safety, environmental compliance, and quality control.
  • Collaborate with forestry partners, contractors, and clients to ensure smooth site access, material flow, and stakeholder relations.
  • Track production metrics, prepare reports, and contribute to forecasting, budgeting, and strategic planning.
  • Support ongoing improvements in process efficiency, cost reduction, and environmental sustainability.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in operations or production management, preferably in forestry, biomass, or heavy equipment sector
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with grinders ( e.g., Peterson, Vermeer, Morbark), loaders, excavators, and conveyor systems.
  • Knowledge of forestry practices and biomass processing in BC is a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with experience managing field teams in remote or industrial environments.
  • Solid understanding of BC environmental regulations, safety standards ( e.g., WorkSafeBC), and logging site protocols.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with reporting tools, production tracking, and basic budgeting.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license; Class 1/3 an asset. Willingness to travel within Northern BC as needed,

The base salary for this position ranges from $98,900/year up to $165,200/year. Salary is based on a number of factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. A day in the life
Operations Manager: - Welcome to Operations: übernimmst die Schichtleitung an einem unserer Betriebsstandorte. Ein typischer Arbeitstag umfasst Treffen mit verschiedenen Geschäftsbereichen, eingehende Untersuchungen der Leistungs- und Risikokennzahlen für Standorte sowie Prognosen zur Vorbereitung auf unterschiedliche Nachfragevolumen. Weiterhin bietest Du Deinem Team täglich Mentoring und Coaching. Als Führungskraft unterstützt Du Deine Teammitglieder dabei, ihr Managementpotenzial voll zu entfalten.
Basic Qualifications
Studienabschluss
Führungserfahrung und Erfahrung im Stakeholdermanagement
Fortgeschrittene Englisch- und Deutschkenntnisse in Wort und Schrift
Relevante Erfahrung in der Verwendung von Daten oder anekdotischer Evidenz zur Begründung von geschäftlichen Entscheidungen
